Wouldn't Telekinesis with weapons be the best way to find the Bed of Chaos' weaknesses? Obviously we'll need a distraction, but that ability combined with a scampering zombie should be a good way to find the boss' bugs.

There actually is a resist fire spell.

Edit: And fire immunity in morrowind.
Well, that is not something I knew.
Depending on how much Magicka it costs to make someone immune, versus the benefits of having an extra individual present [flame atronach] that's naturally immune and is just tanking all the fire for the group, and thus the rest doesn't need to worry about such resistance... Dunno :)

I'll leave what I wrote, if anyone can come up with something better, go right ahead.

Bed of chaos is far far away from us right now :p

Considering that resist fire is not a standalone spell ingame, but is a known ability in universe, I'm going to say it costs 5 magicka per second per 25% resistance. Not something to attempt keeping constantly active. It is also available as an enchantment and potion for much cheaper... There also exists a spell called fire shield that is a forcefield with added fire resistance.

But... Friendly spider boss who owes us a debt of gratitude for curing her sister!
She is, in no way, friendly. Quite the opposite, really. She murders whoever she meets so she can take their Humanity. If we could cure her sister, then maybe she wouldn't be hostile, but Cynric isn't exactly a Restoration specialist; curing her could very well be beyond his skill. Then there's the fact that we'd have to communicate that we wanted to cure her sister and hope for the best that Quelaag wouldn't just attack us on sight before we could even begin to convince her.

Honestly, it's just not worth it. To say nothing of the fact that Cynric just plain wouldn't care. This is a man who has no qualms with starting werewolf plauges out of petty spite because some people were arguing too loudly, or murdering innocent people (including children) just because he wanted his apprentice to get some combat experience. Then he bound their souls to the land forevermore just because he felt like it, which really wasn't necessary, he's just an asshole.

I really can't think of any reason for Cynric to want to save these people when he's not even being asked to, he's being asked to kill them, which seems to be his go-to solution for most things. Especially when he'll even become more powerful in the process because of all those tasty souls!

-[X] Cast Mark on Quelaana (-50 Magicka 600/650)
-[X] Summon Flame Atronach [bound!] (-150 Magicka 450/650)
-[X] Summon Storm Atronach [bound!] (-250 Magicka 200/650)

[X] General Battle Plan
-[X] Flame Atronach acts as vanguard, maintaining positioning that allows it to easily intercept any fire attacks, and generally tie up foe's ability to attack the Storm Atronach / Cynric / Louise [Quelaana's family is supposedly flame sorcerers so it's reasonable to assume fire]
-[X] Storm Atronach acts as artillery support, firing lightning bolts at foes, staying at a distance
-[X] Cynric himself: observe, modify tactics as required, potentially add his own casting power to the mix if/as required. If things get too hairy, use scroll of recall to return to Quelaana
-[X] Louise: frost spike, throw up a frost wall if foes get too close. She has had the most practice with the frost spike spell, what with murdering hundreds of vermin with it. Seems least likely to backfire on her. If things go horribly awry and Cynric recalls out, she is to follow suit using her recall spell.
--[X] if her arm explodes or something because of frost spike being too much for her to control, she's to go back outside to Quelaana because A) if she dies, Cynric wasted his time training her and that's simply not something that can be allowed, B) the fight is under control, and Cynric will meet her there when it's resolved
-[X] Saito: Similar by the Flame Atronach, though he needs to be more careful of fire. If for whatever reason there's too much fire [such as, say, lava spewing drider monstrosities ], he is to simply bodyblock for Louise (Cynric is least likely to get her attention as he's not actively participating), and most definitely cover for her to use the scroll if Cynric bolts, and she needs to follow. Once she is gone, he can run back outside to try and catch up to them. If it's needed. If Cynric is still there, he bodyblocks for Cynric until he's gone and/or fight's over.

......thats a crazy long plan. I'm not going to make one though so I will go with it.

On that note, I would like to congratulate you all on adding several atrocities to Cynric's résumé. In the back story I created for him, he only came close to achieving that kind of dickishness and overkill on two occasion... Though one might not count as slaughtering several clans of falmer while researching automatons probably wouldn't be considered 'bad' to most citizens of Tamriel.

Yea... I know. They're good points all.
But a man can dream.

...think about it this way. Who would Cynric care more about - two ancient demon Goddesses with potential knowledge of arcane secrets (yes, yes, our last attempt to delve into them was unsuccessful, so what?), or a couple hundred thousands commoners? If he could sack several cities so that he can bypass the whole 'fight an eldritch sorceress' by offering her enough Humanity to keep them sane while he examines his options, he'd probably do it.

From what I could find on the Wiki...
Feeding Quelaag's Sister enough humanity (80+) will cause her limbs to move around less feebly and for her dialogue implying her near-death to go away.
Maybe 80000+ could heal her altogether?

All I am saying is that the unbound Dremora Lord might appreciate some company. Louise's world is probably doomed anyway now that it serves as a crossroads for our world jumping escapades.

Well considering that you guys have only voted for fighting her... Are you intending to call a time out?

Depends on whether any of the DS fans pick up the idea.

In theory, we have already fucked Albion twice over, and the civil war is not done yet... we can always pick on the rebel cities some more. So it's not like we are lacking for sacrifices.

I'd be all for a plan that preserves the two spider-waifus, and I would vote for it should one appear, but I lack understanding to make one on my own.

Well if we want that much humanity...

Nito does have that baby farm...

That would be a new level of low though. Even for Cynric.

Just wait. We're going to have been a tyrannical overlord who fled the hero and is now corrupting the multi verse.

Ow. Voting for my plan by using another's name? That hurts :p

Also, yeah, I probably would not have voted for turning a town into werewolves or such a brutal murder of everyone in the rebel capital, but I jumped on the bandwagon after that, so, even if it wasn't in character to murder shit before, it certainly is now... xD

[x] Last minute prep.
[x] Harvest souls in the swamp.

[x] Something like this should not be rushed into:
--[x] Summon something sneaky to scout the area and gather information.

Enter Quelaag
Casting Mark on Quelana as she walks away, you motion for your apprentice to follow you into the lair. Your feet stick to the narrow tunnel with every step and you do your best to avoid touching the walls. As the tunnel widens a bit, you come across a sight that causes Louise to vomit.

Lying prone on the floor are several people, their mouths moving in silent agony as they move their arms as if begging for you to do something. The cause of anguish is easily identified, the massive growths on their back that press their bodies into the silk, pulsing and wriggling from whatever lies inside... you can't really blame the girl for her reaction.

As Louise retches, you summon a flame atronach and have it immolate the poor souls before you. When that is finished, you help the girl to her feet and continue on until coming to an even larger chamber. The 'room' is almost large enough to contain half of Riverwood, with egg sacks lining the walls and the ruins of the bell tower Quelana described occupying the far end. Not seeing the creature responsible for this... construction, you decide against springing an obvious trap by walking into it, instead sending your atronach ahead while simultaneously summoning a storm atronach as well.

The flame atronach advances through the room, floating over a set of faintly glowing runes on the floor as it makes it's way forward. Everything about Quelana's words implied an abundance of fire, so the flame atronach should be in it's element. "Louise, take Tsun and circle left. Do not go past the center of the room and avoid the eggs." You order while sending the other atronach to the right.

"Right!" She says, leaving you to stand in the shadows of the entrance. The first daedra dances merrily as it reaches the middle of the area, though it isn't until Louise is almost parallel to the burning creature that your enemy appears.

Drawn by the vibrations of the girl's footsteps, arachnid legs emerge from the tower's doorway. The creature, like the smaller of it's kin, manages to squeeze it's enormous body through the small opening that... really shouldn't allow such a beast through. Dozens of eyes rest atop the beast's razor line maw, it's black carapace leaking fire and appearing almost like magma where a deep red glow emanates from between the hardened plates of chitin. At odds with all of this, however, is the nude upper body of a woman who bears a striking resemblance to Quelana.

"Wha- Why?!" Your apprentice shouts in alarm, drawing a cruel smirk from the witch. Considering Quelana's admission of being the youngest sister in the family, you really don't like the idea of what this... woman might have in mind for the two of you. As you are preparing to pull the girl away with Telekinesis and flee, Louise turns to you with a horrified expression. "Even the disgusting spider monster is more feminine than me! How is that fair?!"

Palming your face at her outrage, an action that you don't recall doing nearly as often before meeting this girl, you notice the confused look on said spider monster's face as she turns to where the girl is looking. Since it noticed you anyway, you shout back, "Not really a priority!"

Saying something in a language you can't comprehend, the spider daedra look-a-like pulls a sword from... somewhere and the spider roars in an shrill shriek. Her sword combusts and she swings it, sending an arc of fire toward your location, causing you to roll backward into the tunnel. A shout of 'Frost spells' has your apprentice send forth a hail of Ice Spikes as you order your summons to attack. Fireballs pelt the spider's body to no effect and the girl's Ice barely survives the heat radiating from the beast long enough to shatter on impact. Lighting does a significant amount of damage to the woman's exposed torso, though her wounds heal quickly.

Agitated by your party's attacks, she unleashes a flurry of burning swings in all directions, causing Louise to hide behind her familiar before the beast rears up an creates a shockwave of heat that knock everyone off their feet. Getting your feet beneath you, you watch as your apprentice struggles to rise after her swift introduction to the wall while the arachnid skitters it's way toward her. As the witch surges forward to stab at the girl, you pull her off course by tugging her dark hair with Telekinesis and she slams her face into the zombie instead.

Not one to understand hesitation, the moving corpse wraps it's primary arms around her throat while using it's secondary limbs to impale her with it's blades. Using the distraction, you manage to move the girl just before the spider stomps it's forelimbs where she had been laying. The witch's screams of fury draw your attention away from the disoriented girl and you watch as the undead minion is torn in half by the enraged woman's bare hands. Lava drips from the spider's mouth as her fury mounts ever higher, the swords in her chest not hindering her voice in the slightest.

A/N: Though Louise received a head injury of unknown severity and the zombie isn't going to be very mobile until it's legs are reattached, it could have been worse. Also not sure if pictures of Quelaag are acceptable considering her barely covered nudity.

Gathering that much humanity is a terrible idea.

Do you want the dark to put its abyss in your catacombs.

Because that's what will happen if you gather that much humanity in one spot.

I like that you're being creative about things... and appreciate Cynric's roll... And Louise being Louise... And the boss doing boss things... And this story in general....

I kinda don't have a point...

Anyway, I seem to remember the arena being rather big, Qualaag being melee focused, and her attacks being rather easy to dodge.

[X] Plan: Run in Circles
-Have Louise and yourself split up and kite around the arena. Whichever one of you the spider lady goes after should dodge and run away, while the other blasts her with lightning. Flight should be helpful with this.
-No going in corners. The arena is mostly circular, as long as we keep strafing the edges we should be cool.
-Avoiding damage takes priority over dealing damage. We're squishy, Qualaag's not.
-(Would it be cheating to say to watch out for her leap attack, specifically? It's so fast, but it's got days of windup :3)
-Have The fire atronach run interference, by which I mean keep Qualaag from stabbing anyone important, since it's attacks aren't doing anything.
-Cast Ebonyflesh on the fire atronach. [100 Magicka. (5 minute duration) Grants invulnerability to almost all physical damage.] This should render it able to take pretty much whatever Qualaag can hit it with, if I'm reading that spell description right.
-Have Tsun help with interference. Maybe the fire summon can throw his top half at the spider lady or something.
-Have the storm atronach blast Qualaag from the sidelines. I don't remember storm atronach's being very fast or nimble, but it should be able to pour on the hurt if Qualaag ignores it. At the very least it'll buy us some time while she rips it apart.

As a side note, we're probably going to run out of mana. Louise and the storm atronach won't. We can chug our mana potion if things get too hairy.

Also, we need more mana potions.

It would be cheating, but your telling me to priorize dodging over attack takes care of that anyway. I laughed at the absurdity of throwing zombie chunks at a naked woman, but I do enjoy creative ideas... The ebonyflesh on a summon hadn't even occurred to me.

Yes, you guys should probably make more potions, but your garden... Such as it is... Is back at the Valliere estate, so your stock of ingredients is rather low unless you get lucky while devoting time to testing local supplies.
