Fighting through her trauma to cast the spell, only to seemingly vaporize her mentor during a heated battle with a horrifying monster(she's also has arachnophobia) and be left alone in a foreign land full of enemies... she may be intelligent, but what are the odds she is thinking clearly at the moment?
Well, I'm hoping she remembers what Cynric said about how they should recall out if things got too dangerous. Because he did say that. And I think being close enough for a giant creepy spider monstrosity for her blood to drip and affect his boots the way it was doing... Well, that rates as 'too dangerous' in my book especially after telling the apprentice on the other side of the monstrosity to send out a powerful line attack.

On the other hand, depending on how [un]successful she was in casting it correctly, she may not be conscious.

Karin To The Rescue!
With potential enemies all around, your lack of magicka is far too much of a risk, so you do the sensible thing and play up your old age by faking a coughing fit.

"Cynric? Are you alright? Where is Louise?" Quelana asks worriedly, causing the Pinkette to shift her attention to the immortal and leap from the wall. Signalling for her to be patient, you rummage through your bag for your Elixer of Magicka and swiftly gulp down the flavorless liquid.

Not a moment later, the Pink haired woman marches up to the two of you with one hand on her weapon and the other holding the helmet to her iron armor. Looking you up and down, she scowls briefly before speaking, "Judging by your... attire, you must be this Cynric fellow that my daughter mentioned."

"Indeed, a pleasure to finally meet the mother of my apprentice." You answer with a curt bow.

"Cattleya speaks highly of you, though as far as first impressions go, I find myself disappointed. Where is Louise?" Karin demands, anger leaking through her stony facade at the name of her youngest child.

"Ah, yes... that." Gesturing to the immortal, you continue, "This is Quelana of Izalith, whom your daughter and I were assisting before I arrived here... It would seem that Louise is having difficulties with the scroll that would allow her to replicate my spell, so I must be off."

Turning to leave, you hear both women follow. "Very well, I shall accompany you and see to her health for myself." The duchess says behind you, the sound of her heavy boots making you wonder how she didn't sink in the ash. "Make no mistake, though I am grateful for what you've done for my daughters, if I find that you have engaged in any untoward action against either of them, I will not hesitate to cut you down."

As you walk back into the hollow tree, you respond, "Madam, I can assure you of two things. Firstly, I have no such interest in anyone, much less those young enough to be my grandchildren." Looking over your shoulder, you cast Levitate as you make eye contact. "Second, you do not scare me, 'Heavy Wind'."

Wrapping an arm around Quelana's shoulders, you fly up through the tangled branches and roots, past the lizard-frogs, and out the tunnel where the bonfire crackles. Setting down at the base of the swamp, you let the spell wear off as you wait for Karin to catch up.

"A warning next time, if you would." Quelana grumbles, straightening her robes. Looking "You're injured."

Waving off her concerns, you scan the swamp for any approaching wildlife. "Merely a flesh wound, a few burns are a worthy trade for victory."

"You didn't let the child come to harm, did you?" The immortal asks worriedly as she uses a wall of fire to push back the swamp. Stomping up the tunnel, Karin waits for your answer as well, though not before eyeing Quelana with suspicion at the hooded woman's wandless magic.

"Louise is fine, a bump on the head at least and at most she made a mistake with her lightning spell and injured her arm. Nothing that cant be healed with a wave of the hand and a bit of magic." You assure them, stepping forward in an effort to get the party moving. Thanks to your apprentice's earlier efforts, the swamp is mostly free of pests and you arrive at the spider-witch's lair.

Traveling down the tunnel, Quelana grows increasingly nervous as approach the end and the glow of molten stone casts shadows on the walls. Not stopping to deal with her hesitance, you enter the large chamber to find the room littered with debris. Rubble from the tower is strewn across the room, dozens of spider legs are twitching as they grow out of the lava pools around the room, the spike covered knight lies dead in a pile of scorched bricks, and Louise is nowhere to be seen. Casting Clairvoyance, a golden trail leads into the ruined tower. Following the path and ignoring the gasps of surprise from the women, you climb up onto the crumpling masonry and hop down into the tower. Silk and eggs cover much of the interior surface, getting thicker along the hallway that your spell directs you into. At the end of the path, you see your apprentice cradling an arm to her chest and sitting down next to one of those parasite infested people.

Looming behind the girl is another of those arachnid-women, pale hands stretching outward as firelight glows from deep within the room. Karin's composure cracks as she draws her blade and sprint's down the hall.

I wanted to call it. I really did.

Instead I will ask. How the hell did Louise get here? Up a flight of stairs and past a secret wall?

If somebody came to get her that raises even more questions.

The wall was down due to Kirk coming to investigate... Louise doesn't take kindly to handsy perverts, so she blasted him like Saito, but unlike the anime she's willing to kill people now.

[X] Mass Paralysis. Cost 900 Magicka.
-[x] congratulate the girl for being able to act in our absence.
-[x] Pull her away from the spider woman, start healing the mother will complain if she's not in the peak of health
-[x] Let the spell fade ask Quelana if thus woman is another target she not breathing lava so might be more amicable than the other
-[x] Dodge all questions by the mother implying well answer them later
--[x] (remember to set up a alarm spell so you won't have to deal with the woman as you leave)

Hmmm, would mass paralysis or Mass Calm(Harmony) be better in this situation?

Decisions, decisions...

[X] Mass Paralysis. Cost 900 Magicka.
-[x] Pull Louise (gently) away from the spider woman, and start healing her.
-[x] Congratulate her on her decisive action during our absence. Ask her how the spider woman and egg man have been treating her. She wasn't roasting, freezing, or stabbing them so I assume fairly well.
-[x] Apologize to Karen, Quelana, and Louise. The mass paralysis spell is not discretionary, but it is harmless.
-[x] Let the spell fade.
-[x] Ask Quelana if this terrifying spider woman is a relative, and if she wants her killed. Since she isnt breathing lava or trying to eat us im leaning towards 'no'.
-[x] If you dont want her killed, or are uncertain, go talk to her. I would love to help you, but this seems like a personal matter.
-[x] Ask Louise why she did not use the recall scroll she had in her bag.
-[x] Talk to the La Vallière women.

Most of this plan was stolen from ChildishChimera, and for that I thank them.

@ChildishChimera what did you mean by alarm spell? I was not able to find any spell named alarm on the elder scrolls wiki.

Did Louise get souls from Qualaag?

If not, do you plan to have Qualaag regenerate in a little bit, such that we'll have healed her sister by then and she'll be friendly and we can reunite Quelana's remaining family in one big spider-hug of happiness?

If both of those are true, can we harvest Qualaags regenerating body for souls?

She's not Cell. You'll need to talk to Louise if you want answers.

If only we could get some Bonfire Ascetics...
I'm not sure what that's supposed to mean. Religiously not doing something with bonfires?

Its an item that moves the area around a bonfire into New game plus as many times as you are willing to use it.

It also resets the area, resurrecting npcs and re spawning items.

You can use them (and many do) to farm bosses and items indefinitely.

I hope you guys are right about rezzing Qualaag T_T, I never wanted to fight her in the first place.

I'd rather not blow 900 Magicka (especially when we have no more Magicka potions) on something that could piss Karin off even more all to potentailly save some spider lady that Cynric wouldn't even care about.

Some casual demonstration of our power is probably in order if we don't want Karin to get ideas. We said we weren't afraid of her.

Even though we really should. Just don't let it show.

Although we are sending contradicting messages here, first with the old and feeble act, and then with the dismissive bravado. Cynric is a man of many mysteries and knows how to keep a woman intrigued!

Cynric feels no reason to fear any of the backwards wand-waving incompetents of Halkeginia.

Not really conflicting. Lacking fear is not the same as being powerful and neither attribute requires the other. Karin is an experienced leader, she knows this. If he had said something along the lines of 'You would die before you got the chance.' it would have sent mixed messages after his old and feeble act.

Questions of Custody
Rather than let let your apprentice's mother charge headfirst into danger, you decide to take control of the situation. Gathering magicka between your hands, you unleash an emerald wave of paralyzing magic.

Karin's legs lock up, her momentum causing her to fall forward and slide on her face. With friend and foe immobilized, you use Telekinesis to pull both pinkettes to you and set them against the wall near Quelana. With Louise out of the way, you can see that the spider-lady was reaching toward a bonfire rather than the girl. Sighing, you inspect your apprentice for wounds.

"No need to be alarmed, everything in the immediate area is in the same situation as you are... well, other than myself, of course." You say with a laugh as you heal the girl's scorched arm and the knot on the back of her head. "While nondiscriminatory, Mass Paralysis is not harmful and will wear off shortly."

Once Louise is back to being at least physically healthy, you turn your attention to her mother. The stone floor did not treat her kindly, her nose and front teeth broken from the fall and the skin from brow to chin is shredded. "My apologies Mrs. Valliere, but I could not in good conscience allow you to let your emotions endanger the both of you. Doubtless your injuries are painful, but nothing a quick Heal can't fix." You say, healing the damage as she attempts to incinerate you with her baleful gaze.

You briefly contemplate using jarrin root on her wounds and telling the others that it's a salve, but discard the idea as infeasable. The speed it kills at would be too suspicious. While waiting for the spell to wear off, you wander down the nearby staircase. Peering out the windows as you pass, you see a darkened cavern embedded in the cliff that overlooks a massive pit of lava. Large bipedal figures lurk around the lava fields below and at the base of the staircase is a bonfire with more parasite ridden unfortunates. Rather than risk wandering further, you head back up to the others, taking your time now that you know what lies below.

Once the paralysis wears off, the first thing to happen is the egg carrier in the other room starts shouting, 'My lady!' over and over as he scuttles across the floor. The second is your apprentice launching herself at you and capturing you in a hug. "I thought I k-killed you!"

"If so, you did not do a very good job of it." You say sarcastically, tussling her hair while she deals with her emotions. "I am proud of you apprentice, many would let the death of a companion slow them down, but you continued on with our quest in spite of my absence."

Attempting to appear as though your praise isn't the reason for her blush, the girl steps back and frowns at the tattered remains of the bandages that had been used to dress her wounded arm. "After that black knight came from in here and attacked me, I wasn't going to wait out in the open. Those two in the other room are much more friendly than the other one was." She replies in an uncaring tone as she peels the useless pieces of cloth from her freshly healed limb. Quelana, having been listening, looks uncertain for a moment before shaking herself and striding down the hall. "Honestly Master, I'm not completely helpless without you."

Before you can point out her crying fit at Quelana's, Karin decides to interrupt. "Master, is it? Why exactly is my daughter, a highborn member of Tristain's Royal family, addressing someone of... questionable descent as master?"

"As my apprentice, it is only proper to address me as such." You rebuke, ignoring her remark about your parentage.

Turning her disapproving gaze from her daughter to you, she scoffs derisively. "I was asking my daughter, but seeing as you wish to speak, lets make something clear. Louise is my daughter and you will not be continuing this practice of dragging her across the countryside. She will be returning to the academy to continue her education in the manner of a proper noble or she will be wed to her betrothed as soon as arrangements can be made, you may apply for a teaching position at the academy if you wish to instruct my daughter." Louise attempts to object, but reluctantly holds her tongue when Karin looks at her. "You will address her according to her station as she will do for you, elvish mongrel. Stealing from my home, endangering my child, and opening a portal to a dangerous land beside my house... Were it not for Cattleya's improved health, I would do my duty and remove your head for your crimes."

How do you respond?

[] Kill the interloper

[] Accept her decision.

[] Correct her on your list of crimes, she forgot the best parts.

[] Ignore her words and follow Quelana

[] Write in.
