Absolutely Mental
Sitting on the balcony, you gesture toward the clutter assembled around the two of you. "Can you guess what you are about to learn?"

Looking at the scattered vases, statuettes, books, and other assorted items, Louise tilts her head. "Err... Cleaning up after myself?"

"While you could do with a lesson or two on that subject," You say, thinking back to the mess she made while you were unconscious. "I was intending to teach you Telekinesis." The girls stares blankly at you, so you use the spell to make a book fly around the room. "Manipulating objects from a distance."

"Telykeneses, right! I'm ready." She says exuberantly, scooting closer as she looks at the book in wonder.

"Te-le-kin-e-sis." You correct the young woman. "Since the spell has a defined limit on how much weight it can lift before becoming exponentially more costly and I do not intend to create a stronger variant at this time, It will require both of us to free your... familiar."

At Louise's nod, you continue. "While it is one of the more simple spells to learn, Telekinesis requires constant focus to maintain. A master of this spell requires no obvious sign that they are casting and may even move several objects simultaneously, though few bother to go beyond the required practice. Focus your will on the object you desire and use your magicka to grasp your target, it may help to start with an imaginary hand and mimicking your real hand with it."

You spend a while watching her, though the sun's lack of movement makes it impossible to tell how long. Your apprentice slowly improves from merely shaking the statuette in her grasp to lifting it up and setting it down. Eventually, the girl manages to pull the object across the room in one smooth movement and you deem it good enough.

"Good, good. That is enough for now apprentice." You say, snatching the object from the air as it zooms by. "You may practice on your own later, now we shall move on to another important lesson: Illusion magic. I will be teaching you two very simple uses of illusion, though you will be unable to test them on anyone for now, so remember this for later."

Creating an orb of light, you let it float gently between the two of you. "Light is perhaps the simplest of illusory effects to create for several reasons. First of all, unlike the other sense such as sound or smell, sight can be easily fooled by simple effects. A simple ball of light is not so unusual as to alert someone to it's illusory nature and is usually accepted without a second though. Secondly, light spells are usually used in dark areas, making those affected accept the illusion more readily. Remember this, for once someone has accepted one of your illusions as fact, it will be easier to further change their perception."

Shaking her head in confusion, Louise asks, "But if it isn't real light, how does it help in the dark?"

"A good question. To put it simply, you are changing how their mind perceives the world. Magicka is everywhere and is created by almost everything in small amounts, this means that your spell can simply alter their sight to accept what the ambient magicka defines as their immediate surroundings as being visible. Does that make sense?"

"No." She says with a frown. "I'm not sure I understand at all."

Patting her head, you sigh. "You will understand when you have someone to practice on."

"Why can't I practice with you or on myself?"

"I would prefer that you do not cause either of our heads to explode, thank you very much." You say, causing the girl to deflate. "No pouting. It is an unavoidable aspect of your magic and I refuse to pretend that it does not exist. Practice on those we do not care for until you are comfortable with altering the mind. Now, the reverse of light is darkness. Once you can cast a simple light orb, I would have you pick a target and remove their sight. Blindness is so often overlooked these days and few understand enough about it to remove the cause, splashing someone in the face with water while casting is enough to have most people thinking there is a physical problem."

Your smirk is met with a reluctant smile from the girl, who still seems upset by your earlier remark. Waving to the clutter, you stand and head for Quelana's door. Upon arrival, you knock firmly. "Quelana? Are you still in there?"

You hear a yelp and the sound of shattering pottery before footsteps rapidly approach. Throwing the door open, the woman seems surprised to see you. "Y-yes?" She asks, clearing her throat and smiling slightly upon recovering.

Peeking around her, you can see that the broken braziers have been repaired somehow, though the one she just broke has set her meditation mat alight. "I was simply checking to see if you are alright before we leave, you have been in here a long time."

At your mention of leaving her smile fades. "Yes, of course. While I hadn't been expecting you to leave so soon... I suppose it is to be expected. I am... I apologize for causing you concern, I didn't mean to trouble you... You're taking Louise as well?"

"We shall return shortly, we are merely retrieving the girl's... pet. It was trapped in the swamp and it would be best if we recovered it before too long." You clarify.

Sighing in relief, whether at your intent to come back or something else, the witch replies, "Very well, I will await your return. Be safe."

Well, I'm all caught up now.

Between kidnapping a girl, starting a werewolf plague, murdering a city's inhabitants down to the last man, woman, and child--and forcing the aforementioned kidnapped girl to help--, and then turning said city into a necropolis, flooding mines and drowning everyone within, summoning an unbound Dremora lord in a city with no hope of defeating it and leaving it to it's own devices, crashing a ship into a castle and creating a massive explosion that demolished houses and poisoned crops, stealing from aforementioned girl's mother's wardrobe, and finally dragging said girl to Lordran. I may have missed an atrocity or two, but the point is: you guys are monsters.

I love it.:lol:rofl::lol:rofl:

It's a bit of a pity we went to the Dark Souls verse - feels like every character around here can boast a similar list. I just don't feel all that special anymore! :p

Also...
kidnapping a girl
starting a werewolf plague
murdering a city's inhabitants down to the last man, woman, and child
turning said city into a necropolis
flooding mines and drowning everyone within
summoning an unbound Dremora lord in a city with no hope of defeating it
crashing a ship into a castle
stealing from aforementioned girl's mother's wardrobe
One of these atrocities is not like the others! It also says something about the setting when it is the most daring and dangerous thing on the list.

I'll be starting on the next chapter in a couple hours.

Cooking At Quelana's
As you head back to gather your apprentice, you turn back to face the witch. "Before I go, would you happen to have a kitchen of some sort? We acquired some meat, but lack the means to cook it."

With an apologetic smile she shakes her head. "No... Unfortunately not. As I said before, it has been a very long time since I last had visitors. Perhaps you could make due with a lit brazier?"

"That should work, thank you." You say, heading back to the balcony. On arrival, you see the girl squinting and sweating from concentration as she attempts to make two books revolve around each other and herself, almost dropping them every time they leave her field of view. Walking directly into the path of the floating objects, you prod Louise in the back with your boot. "Come along, you can continue practicing when we return."

The girl looks around in confusion before your words register and she slowly climbs to her feet. As she follows you toward the swamp once more, she sighs. "I was hoping I could do something impressive with that spell, I didn't realize it would be so hard."

"Considering the fact that most mages cannot maintain their hold on an object once it leaves their sight, I would say you are doing excellent." You say with a chuckle.

Shaking her head, she sighs again and replies, "I was using the sound of the pages fluttering around to keep track of them, I doubt I could do that if I was somewhere noisy. Even that made my head hurt."

Patting her head, you stop that line of thinking before it gets to far. "Not mastering a spell in one day is not failure, it is expected. You will get there, be patient."

Nodding glumly, she doesn't say anything else as you continue down the path. Upon arrival, you notice several dead leeches that got too close to the arms of the pinned zombie. With the two of you working together, you manage to roll the massive rock off of the girl's familiar and after allowing it a moment to heal, you are on your way back to the tower.

The first thing you see when you return is Quelana pushing a stone plinth into the entrance hall, scraping sounds reverberate through the building as the heavy object resists her efforts. Though she doesn't appear to be sweating, the noises she's making are proof enough that she has been struggling to move the thing for a while, probably since you left. When Louise steps around you, she immediately tries to assist, telekinetically lift the stone and moving it to the center of the room. Unfortunately, this causes the immortal to fall on her face.

As you help her to her feet, you can't help but ask, "How did you get down the stairs with that?"

"Carefully." She answers without answering, hiding her face within the shadows of her hood. Unsure of whether she is embarrassed or simply attempting to be mysterious, you shrug and assist Louise in setting up the brazier with some of your mysterious ingots to hold a spare tile over it without smothering the fire... though you're also unsure of why she decided to light the fire before moving it. Not long after you start, you hear Quelana start speaking again. "Greetings, it seems peaceable company is in abundance lately."

Turning around, you notice her standing before the zombie. Her awkward smile at the corpse's silence causes you to laugh, bringing her confused gaze back to you. Before you can explain, Louise shouts out, "Familiar, don't be rude to our hostess! The least you could do is bow!" As her minion follows her orders, she blushes lightly. "I'm sorry, while we've put quite a bit of effort into him, he isn't exactly suited to social interaction."

"Bu- Wha- I thought you were retrieving a pet? With how cold he is, I assumed he was one of your compatriots."

"In a matter of speaking." Finishing your preparations and placing the meat on your improvised range. "Do you have any salt? Other seasonings?" Receiving no response from the bewildered woman, you dig out a clove of garlic from your knapsack. Not knowing this place's stance on necromancy, you carefully word your explanation. "Though life-like, we created Tsun from common parts and scavenged materials, using magic to seamlessly blend disparate pieces and enchantments to improve as much as possible. Visually, it is almost impossible to tell that it isn't a living human... as long as the secondary limbs remain hidden. Louise?"

Without a word, the zombie pulls it's extra arms from their hiding place in it's clothing. Other than humming in appreciation, you are unaware of what the woman is doing as you focus on cooking your meal. Trusting your apprentice to be discreet, you tune out their chatter.

-----------------------------------------

Once the food is done, you have the zombie remove the tile from the fire and set about searching for the females. Approaching an open door on the third floor, you hear Quelana's voice. "-orry about that poor girl. I doubt her father would be happy to hear what's become of her, trapped in that frozen painting." At some point the duo had migrated up the tower to what appears to be a small library.

Walking inside, you announce, "The food is ready, would you two care to join me downstairs for dinner?"

"Ah, Cynric... I was just sharing a few stories with your apprentice... No need to waste food on those who do not need it." Motioning the girl toward the door, she smiles.

Not taking no for an answer, you reply, "Nonsense, there is far too much for just the two of us to finish. It would be wasted if you did not partake."

Conflicted, she follows you down nonetheless. Dividing the meat between the three of you, the lack of utensils means you are forced to eat with your hands. Quelana is the last to finish, her awkwardly nibbling at the meat as you and Louise devour your meal with enthusiasm. Though rather bland, the meat was filling and you sigh contentedly, giving Louise time to relax before her lessons.

After what seems like an eternity, the witch finishes her portion and stares at her greasy hands in confusion as though unsure what to do with them before simply lighting them on fire. Attempting to withhold your laughter, you shake your dozing apprentice and guide her to the balcony, leaving Quelana to her thoughts.

"If I were to ask you the uses of lightning, what would be your response?" You ask the drowsy girl.

Not even thinking about it, she yawns out, "Ranged attack, rune traps, and removing magical defenses."

"Good, but there are other uses as well." Pointing to the top of the tower, you continue. "A master of shock magic can use a bolt of lightning as a bridge between two points, carrying themselves across the distance in the same amount of time it takes for the spell to reach it's target."

That got her full attention, her back straightening as she looks at you in... shock. "Another usage of lightning is to coat oneself in the energy to act as a barrier, deflecting both physical and magical attacks while also harming those fools who choose to get close. A mage can do many wondrous things with magic and while this lesson may be brief, this knowledge is perhaps the most important yet. I want you to think of unusual ways to use what I teach you, be creative."

Standing, you head inside to find a place to sleep, though not without a few parting words. "Get some sleep, I expect great things from you." A church bell rings from far above as you head inside. Great and terrible things.

As much fun as playing house with Quelana is (oh how I ship it), we have put our feet up for long enough. Time to hit the road again. She comes with or... *shrug*

I just find them oddly compatible, Darksouls is even more of a harsh death world than Elder Scrolls. And if she thinks human 'larva' are cute she is probably odd enough to hand wave most of our oddness.

(I cant believe I forgot Calm exists.)

I'm just going with this for a chance to learn proper pyromancy. It'll be an opportunity for our Her- our protagonist to advance his theory of Spell Schools. And we might be able to give the zombie a mind from her flame sorceries. Those powers originated with the Lord Soul of Life after all.

Evil? Because of a little temptation? Nah, if anything, I'm evil for having one of the bells of awakening ringing already.

Edit: You could have kept Saito's soul in the body if you had bothered to do it soon after his death, forced lichdom is a thing in The Elder Scrolls.

Interlude: Quelana
Watching her unusual house guests, Quelana couldn't help but smile.

It was odd really. After centuries of uninterrupted isolation, she had begun to wonder if she could feel anything positive emotions anymore... and yet, despite her earlier outburst, the daughter of Izalith couldn't deny that this was the happiest she had been since young Salaman came to demand her teachings. Salaman... if she had known his descendants would go on to create the blight, she never would have agreed. Of course a simple fire, taught so he could protect and provide for his people in their 'Great Swamp', would be twisted until it turned upon it's master... as fire always seems to do. She thought bitterly.

"-ana, you may want to stand back." A voice said, barely reaching her through her musings. Blinking in confusion, she looked down at the pink haired Larva before her. "I... I'm not the best mage... I don't want to hurt you if I make a mistake."

Though slightly larger than before, Louise was still just as adorable and Quelana fought back the urge to hug the child. Oh if only Queleah were here! We never found a pink one before! "Fret not dear, I'll be fine." She said, managing to settle for affectionately rubbing the girl's head.

Obviously trying not to show how pleased she was by the the attention, the girl's face eye twitched adorably as she took a deep breath and began casting. They had spent the last hour placing these 'ash runes' along every possible entrance and walkway in her tower, quite a fitting spell for the fireless duo. Light orange in color, the strange rings of light form around glowing symbols and She reaches out to examine the foreign sorcery.

Her inner fire made manifest, Quelana traces her fingers along the outer rings, feeling a faint tingle of something unknown. Finding no trace of Flame or soul, she moves her hand toward the center, ignoring the child's protests. The sensation grows stronger the closer she gets, until her palm touches the central pair of symbols. Humming with power, the markings seem to call out to the fire within her bosom and answers the call.

The world explodes and Louise screams in horror.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Running. it was all she could think of doing. The horrible cries of her family echoing around in her head as she fled through the city.

All around her the humans followed her example, sprinting away from the amphitheater in blind panic. It wasn't enough. Roots burst from the ground at random, piercing flesh and shattering stone in her mother's hunt for her escaping daughter. With an upward stab of her catalyst, the fallen tower obstructing her path turned to lava, clearing the path for those behind her. Stepping across the field of painful liquid, Quelana turned around to help the humans cross and realized her mistake. In her rush to leave, she had forgotten the frailty of humans.

Unable to stop in time, the ones in front were pushed into the molten stone by those behind them. The brief pause to avoid the lava proved fatal as more roots burst into the crowd, the looks of betrayal they gave her would haunt her for years. The screaming chased her as she resumed her flight.

----------------------------------------

"Wha-?" She asked quietly as she looked around. While she remained spotless, everything within reach was coated in hardened ash and there was a squeezing sensation around her abdomen. There was something pink latched onto her.

Before she could begin to burn whatever it was to cinders, it spoke. "I'm so s-sorry! I-I warned you not to touch it!"

Shaking her head, Quelana realized that she was back in the border outpost. "Shh... everything is alright. I am unharmed." She replied soothingly, lifting the sniffling girl into a hug. For both their comfort.

"You know, when you are told that something is dangerous, you should probably not immediately touch it. For an immortal sorceress, you seem to possess a terrible self preservation instinct." Cynric says from across the room. "How did you survive this long?"

"Cowardess." She admits, not setting Louise down.

"Uh-huh. Because a coward spends her time in a monster infested swamp... I assume this is about your family."

Louise pushed her face free from it's clothen prison and shouted, "Master! Don't you remember... last time?"

Before the mortals fell into an argument, Quelana released the girl. "No... it is fine. Truth be told, I... I abandoned my family. When mother's Lord Soul went wild and became the Flame of Chaos... it warped them... molded their bodies into horrible monstrosities."

----------------------------------

"Quelana? Are you ready, sister?" Queleah asked, brushing a pale hand across her youngest sister's cheek.

No.

Looking around nervously, Quelana whispered, "I-I... yes, I believe so." The radiant smile she received helped clear away any remaining doubt she felt. A hush fell over the gathered observers, nearly half of the cities inhabitants had come to witness the rebirth of the First Flame.

As Quelaav approached their mother, Ceaseless began chanting in the unfamiliar language that the serpent had taught him. Named for his unfortunate affliction, the only male amongst the witches left a trail of molten rock as he circled the room. Gargling, snarling, and hissing noises come from her brother's mouth in a most unsettling manner as Quelaav drew energy from their mother's Lord soul. Soon Quella, their eldest sibling, copied Quelaav and the rest of the sisters raised their catalysts into the air.

Five points of light became a scarlet barrier surrounding the three in the center of the room, protecting those present from what was to come. In perfect synchronicity, Quelaav and Quella turned the energy of the Lord Soul upon their mother, who applied a constant pressure on their target. The amphitheater erupted in a blinding flash, followed by pained howls.

Blinking away the spots in her vision, Quelana watched as her mother burst into deep amber flames and her skin turned to wood. The two within the barrier attempted to help, only to be impaled by the roots that were one their mother's legs, their bodies turning to shriveled husks as they used their last moments to bind the movement of the growing branches.

Unable to move, she watched in horror as roots slammed against the barrier. Over and over they came, until the room shook as more roots burst from beneath the floor. With the barrier down, fireballs rained from her mother, causing those they touched to scream as their bodies shifted. Quelana stood helplessly, fear making her unable to move as one of the flaming projectiles flew toward her. Closing her eyes, she waited... only to feel a sudden impact as she was thrown across the room.

When she looked to where she had been, she saw Queleah lying prone on the floor, her lower body engulfed in fire as Quelaag screamed for her to run. Like the obedient sister she was, Quelana obeyed, the sounds of chaos all around.

---------------------------------------------------

"It was shortly afterward that I went to Anor Londo in seek of aid... Gwyn sent his knights to fight, but I was too scared of what I might find if I returned... When the knights came back, it was in defeat, their armor scorched and their spirits crushed. Many years I stayed in those alabaster halls... It was... cold. Not in the physical sense... nor the magical... but I never did feel truly welcome there, as though they laid the blame for the birth of demons squarely upon my crown." Looking at her guests, Quelana smothers the guilty feeling welling up within her in anticipation of her next words. "I cannot disagree with them either... I have a favor to request of you, though I have no right to ask."

"You are free to ask, just as I am free to decline." Cynric says neutrally, motioning for her to continue. After her story, she wasn't sure what she expected, but she was willing to take the fact that they were still willing to speak to her as a good sign.

Little Louise seemed on the edge of tears by this point, so it was with some hesitance that she asked, "Would you please... put my family out of their misery?"

"You can't mean that!" Louise exclaimed.

"I realize that I'm asking much of you, but I cannot do this myself... I dare not face them again... I'm begging you, free their souls from torment... surely a thousand years is enough suffering for our mistake!"
