Taking a gulp of much needed water, you roll your eyes at her pathetic attempt to appear mature and controlled after having just finished impulsively frolicking around the room like a hyperactive preteen. "Riiight." Your dry response causes her blush to deepen and she looks away. "Anyway, whether or not you intended this outcome, it is obvious that you did something."
The girl moves to protest, but you shut her down with a stern look. "Quiet. I need you to explain exactly what you did while I was away." "I already said I didn't-" "Not simply actions! Thought and feeling can have an important impact on the nonphysical aspects of the world around you, what was occupying your mind?"
Shuffling uncomfortably, Louise turns fully away from you and sits by the fire. You wait patiently for several minutes, but she doesn't seem to be willing to talk. Sighing, you sit beside her and nudge her with your elbow, causing her to bury her head between her knees. "Did we not have a talk about this a short time ago?" You ask.
The girl's voice struggles to reach your ears, muffled by her position. "Yes... b-but I... It's stupid."
"Is this about your ceaseless complaints regarding your appearance? Because I am fully aware of your dissatisfaction." Whimpering, she seems to draw in on herself even more. Resting your hand on her head, you continue. "Slow development is nothing to be ashamed of, Louise. Just imagine the looks on your rivals faces when those your age are beginning to lose their good looks and you remain young and healthy for another decade or more."
Your words draw a chuckle from the girl. "That's not how it works... is it?"
"Sometimes." You say. "Besides, I know of several forms of immortality that can be attained with magic... changing appearances is child's play if we spend the time on it."
Lifting her head to smile at you, she finally answers your question. "Okay... Okay, I was... While I was waiting for you, I was watching the fire." nodding, you motion for her to continue. "W-well the fire reminded me of that Germanian trollop from the academy. Always degrading me over my magic, flaunting those overgrown mounds of fat on her chest... She was even convinced I was a boy that liked to wear women's clothes once.. She... she tried to seduce me! She came to my room one night in a transparent nightgown and tried to... to...
'Where's your... Oh.' was what she said, not caring that the door was open or that the other students could be watching. Do you have any idea how embarrassing that is? I-I... I'm just so tired of this childish figure... and while I was warming my hands... I guess I accidentally did that thing Quelana was talking about." Though flushed and teary eyed, you're pleased to note that the girl didn't start crying again.
"We could kill them all if you'd like." You offer mildly, not really concerned as you focus on reproducing the child's actions. Reaching your hand toward the flames, you are sure that the unconscious desire of the girl isn't the most efficient way to do this. Focusing on your body, you know that it won't be long before your age begins to catch up with you, maybe a few years at most. Your active lifestyle can only do so much and soon your flexibility will rapidly deteriorate and you'll be more susceptible to injury.
Your apprentice looks to be annoyed by your proposal. "That would be treason. Not only would we be likely to start a war if we killed the foreign students, but many of my... peers... are Tristainian nobles of moderately high standing."
"Surely we could orchestrate events to appear as though we were not involved." You counter, feeling an odd sense of warmth fill you as the weight of your accumulated souls dissipates. You don't feel any larger and your clothes don't seem to fit any worse than before, but looking at Louise shows her clothing seems to have grown with her somehow. You're ripped from your thoughts as the fire grows stronger momentarily and you observe as the surge resonates with all other bonfires before being pulled to a larger flame beneath the world's surface. Ignoring that for now, you gather your things and dust yourself off. "We could also try to make it appear as though we were putting down a revolt."
Shaking her head in exasperation, Louise follows you lead as you head back down the stairs. "How about we not slaughter my classmates for being immature children?" Your derisive snort is ignored as she looks around in confusion. "Why are we going back down? I thought we were heading to the surface."
Tossing the meat to Louise, you reply, "Freeze that for later. We are heading back to the tower to see if Quelana has recovered from her... episode."
"Do you think she's alright?" The girl asks after freezing the meat.
"Surely a being with as much experience as she claims to possess can deal with a few bad memories. I guess we shall see when we arrive."
The trip is uneventful, though you do find the girl's zombie pinned beneath a large boulder for some reason... most likely by one of the dead bipeds that surround it. Freeing the corpse without magic would be impossible and you aren't willing to waste the magic, so the two of you continue on for now with the intent to return later. The tower's owner is locked in her room when you return, so the two of you make yourselves comfortable in the main chamber.
