Okay, I must ask this- why hasn't the Conjurer enchanted a set of magic regeneration items?
It was literally the first goal I gave myself when I played Skyrim. Even without mods, I could continuously toss magic with the right enchantments

Panacea 2.0?
"Dad, I'm taking your car to the hospital!" Amy shouted up the stairs while Victoria went to change into her costume. Waving for Louise to follow, she rushed out the door.

Shrugging to Hinata's questioning look, the pinkette obeyed and soon the trio were packed in the loud carriage with a man screaming aggressively from the inside the radio. Trying not to think too hard about the other healer's obscene taste in music, the pinkette used the distraction to read her Master's note.

'Louise, I hope you understand the severity of what you have done. To jeopardize everything we have done by attempting to cast a spell with only the most basic of understanding of how it functions is far more irresponsible than I would have expected of you. A spell scroll is not intended to teach, they are simply a precast effect stored in the form of language and you should have thought about that before tossing yourself into the ether like an impetuous novice. Could you not have waited for me to give you proper instruction? Are you that impatient as to throw your life away after a few days of boredom? I do not have time to lecture you on things you should already know, but suffice to say, I find myself disappointed.'

Once again, she was a disappointment and this time it wasn't the fault of incompetent teachers or overly high expectations... just her own pathetic self. With shaking hands, she forced herself to continue.

'We will speak more on this another time and I expect you to learn from this mistake. On the topic of expectations, you shall make up for your blunder by performing reconnaissance in that world. Victoria assures me that it is relatively safe for someone of your power and rich in potential resources, the only real threat being a pair of moderate sized creatures that attack singular cities on a semi-defined schedule. Below is a list of materials, equipment, and other assorted items that are needed or would be helpful at the base. I am also sending a bag of enchanted items with Hinata, it would behoove you to continue your studies in both magic and physical combat. Use Hinata as you see fit, she has much training in certain fields that you are sorely lacking.

Alternative alchemical ingredients and general information about the world will be required if and when we make official contact either for trade or conquest. It will be up to you whether or not we establish an Oblivion Gate to that realm and I trust you to make a proper assessment of which factions or individuals can be allied with. As it will be a month or two at the most, I doubt you will accomplish everything and part of the reason for this is to emphasize the need to think about your actions. You are not a child and while I will always be your master, I cannot make every decision for you.
'

Shen's requests: Titanium, lithium, platinum, enriched uranium, cobalt, various 'rare earth elements', alloy samples, Helium, three or more Atmospheric condensers, mining equipment, waterproof sealant, petroleum, and as Espinoza put it "an entire hardware store'.

Vahlen's requests: Genetic samples of every animal you can find, three parahuman cadavers, three baseline human cadavers, three live parahumans, three live baseline humans, soil samples, and documentation of parahuman powers. She also has been speaking with Victoria and asks that you expose yourself to various forms of 'master' powers to test her implant against them. Do not.

Swallowing thickly, she folded the paper and stuck it back in her pants-line for safe keeping. He isn't giving up on me? Of course not, it was a simple mistake, Master Cynric isn't like her. I just need to do better. Be better. Right, I'll show him how great of a pupil I ca-

Snapping her fingers in front of the pinkette's eyes, Amy looked on in concern. "Louise? We're here... are you okay?"

"I-I'm fine. Just... a little nervous." She answered haltingly, not really lying, but not telling the full truth either.

How was she supposed to make her teacher proud if she didn't even know what half of the things he wanted were? Her family owned the farmlands and mines in the duchy, she wasn't taught how to negotiate trade agreements beyond demanding a minimum tax from the peasant merchants! It wasn't like she could just steal it all, even if she was willing to put aside her honor for more than the basic necessities, where would she hide it? If she somehow managed to acquire everthing on the list, she'd have to protect it all for two months. Between her and Hinata, one of them would need to stand guard at all times!

With a grim face, Amy nodded. "I understand. It's going to be crazy in about an hour, but we can make it easier if we hurry."

The next half hour was mostly just waiting, the emergency room having been cleared out within a few seconds of their arrival thanks to Louise. Eventually a flood of bleeding and dismembered people arrived and she did her best to keep up. Faces blurred together and she continued to maintain the healing spell, golden energy bathing the entire room as bodies were carried in and out as fast as could be carried. It was tiring to constantly cast the spell, but she refused to let her pride be wounded by quitting such a simple task. Hundreds of people must have come through by the time Louise collapsed in exhaustion. The last thing on her mind was that if this happened again, they were doing it in the lot outside so her spell could reach more people at once.

----------------------------------

Coming back into awareness to the familiar sound of beeping, Louise looked around the empty room in annoyance. She There was a hose stuck in her arm and somebody had replaced the dress Vicky bought with a thin, cheep, floral print night-gown. If the next person to walk through the door was a blonde doctor, she was going to blow them up. Magic or no, she refused to be poisoned again.

Thankfully, when the door opened it was Hinata that entered. The veins around her eyes let Louise know how the girl had known she was awake, so she didn't need to ask and waited to see what the girl had to say instead. It took Hinata a moment before she gave a small smile and said, "I'm glad your awake, I was worried."

"How long was I asleep?" The pink haired girl asked, trying to sit up when Hinata pushed her back down with a gentle, yet firm hand.

Trying to look stern, the younger girl refused to budge. "Y-you need to rest, chakra exhaustion is serious."

"I just ran out of magicka, it's no big deal... and you didn't answer my question." Louise protested and tried again to no avail. This is ridiculous, she's smaller than I am!

"Three days." Came a voice from the doorway, causing both of them to frown and Hinata looked the closest to angry that Louise had ever seen from the girl. Standing in the threshold was the camouflaged woman from the bank. Walking forward and sitting in a nearby chair with her glowing pistol holstered under one arm, Miss Militia asked, "Do you mind if we talk for a moment?"

Choose:

[] Flat refusal. You've wasted enough time already, you need to get paid and need time to think... not to mention starting on the daunting task Master Cynric gave.

[] Begrudging acceptance. She is an important figure in the city.
[] Maybe she can help with the list.
[] Ignore her and continue speaking with Hinata, your dress is missing and she has some explaining to do.

[] Write in.

Miss Militia will be sympathetic with child-soldier refugees.

Heck she might want to join our 'Grandfather' who must be some sort of mover (teleporting birds) resistance member saving child-soldiers.

Hmm, tough spot.

Do it for Master

Edit: yeah we shouldn't bring that list up just yet.

I wonder what Miss Militia did to piss off Hinata of all people?

I like this.

I think that Miss Militia could be leveraged as the primary contact for everyone in our group. There's like a five percent chance that we'll convince her to join our raids on the multiverse. In the present she is uniquely qualified to help us understand American (cape) culture on Earth Bet. I'm very happy that everyone in our team is looking at long term goals. Hooray for Cynric bringing his A-Game. I don't have them written out, but this is definitely in my top ten favorite chapters. The insanity and humor need to be balanced by the cool intellect usually only held by villains.

So how does everyone want to deal with Vahlen the creepy scientist in the future? Imagine what goodies and interactions we may expedience if we go above and beyond on the task of gathering her requested items!

[X] Ignore her and continue speaking with Hinata, your dress is missing and she has some explaining to do.
-[X] Show the discipline and confidence appropriate for woman of noble birth that has earned her teacher's backing. Find out what happened to your belongings.

"Hey, I got this shopping list. Any idea where I can find enriched uranium and cobalt? Oh and slaves, definitely need to find a slave market or I'll run myself ragged trying to get everything myself." That will go over well.

You guys do know that the part about mentioning the list is an optional addition to the main vote of talking to her, right? I'm only asking because everyone who chose to talk also chose that part and I wasn't sure if it was clear.

I for one, did not; allow me to amend my vote. I think we should try Faultline first for help with the list anyways. Or at least omit the cadavers and live humans if we bring it up with MM.

Nothing wrong with asking for enriched uranium. It's just concentrated magicka, right?

Can't wait to see how Louise steals all these things.

Vahlen's list is by far the easiest. Taking cadavers from the morgue while working at the hospital is child's play, and 'genetic samples' from baseline humans and parahumans alike can be brought by simply organizing a meeting between X-COM and Protectorate or whatever it is called. How she goes about convincing those samples to cooperate and participate in her studies is Vahlen's own problem, the note does not specify those pesky details.

The documentation on parahuman powers, now that's an interesting topic Louise might find useful even for her own sake. That's one of the reasons I am not dismissing the woman - this information is crucial to our decision on how to proceed with this world.

Just a heads up, there won't be an update tonight or tomorrow. The meat puppet I will be busy doing Easter stuff with my niece.

Three Child Soldiers Gather Around A Bed
Flicking her eyes to the irritated Hyuga still pinning her down with a single arm, Louise decided that if a woman of her position had come to visit, it would only be proper to hear her out. Nodding, Louise relaxed onto the bed and sighed in annoyance, "It's not as if I'm going anywhere soon."

And you already sat down, I doubt you'd leave if I said no.

"No, I suppose not." Though her face was mostly covered by striped cloth, the heroine's eyes and body language were more than enough to get her amusement across. Reaching into her pocket, she pulled out and offered a blue and silver wrapped rectangle. "Here, you're probably starving." Leaning in, she continued in an overly dramatic whisper, "Between you and me, hospital food is just as bad as they say on TV."

Blushing as her stomach growled at the mention of food, Louise accepted the bar with a curt 'thank you' and began to quickly eat the chocolat treat as Miss Militia talked. "Anyway, I wanted to thank you for everything you did the other day, you saved a lot of lives... many of them friends of mine. For someone as young as are to push herself so hard when you didn't have to, that was awfully noble of you."

Withholding a scoff at the woman's choice of words, the pinkette shrugged in indifference. "I couldn't just leave the job unfinished. I'm not doing this for appreciation."

"Which makes it all the more impressive." She said warmly. "Unfortunately, not nearly enough parahumans have your sense of duty. This city is rather representative of that fact; we have more villainous capes than any other city of our size. Drug dealers, a self-styled dragon man, and of course the heart of this country's Nazi problem."

There's that Not-see thing again. It sounds as if there's some pandemic causing blindness... I'll need to speak with doctor Bailey about organizing supplies for cure disease potions before leaving.

Putting that aside for the moment and meeting the woman's oddly scrutinizing gaze with a quirked brow, Louise asked, "Not to be rude, but is there any specific reason we're talking about this all of a sudden? I may have healed a lot of people, but I can hardly cure the source of these 'not-sees'."

"Well, you've certainly grown more confident since we last spoke." The heroine laughs. "Not that that's a bad thing, I suppose Glory Girl was bound to rub off a bit. With recent events, I just wanted to make sure you and your grandfather understood the danger you're in as independents. Have you thought about my offer?"

Honestly not remembering whatever the woman was talking about, Louise shook her head, causing Miss Militia pinch her masked nose. "A good team could be a life saver and we'd love to have you and your grandfather." She gave the silently reproachful Hinata a nod. "Your friend is welcome too, of course."

"I have a team." The Hyuga said flatly, looking to Louise with clear expectation on her face.

It would take many more sweets to coerce her into placing herself that deep under the watchful eye of a potential enemy. Shaking her head, Louise answered, "No thank you, I have no intention of joining in on this civil war. It's not personal, I just can't commit to something like that at the moment. Between working here and helping my family, my schedule is going to be pretty full."

"I see." Standing from her seat, the camouflaged woman reached out and offered her hand. "That's a shame, but to tell the truth, I expected that to be your answer. I need to get back on patrol, but again, thank you for your help."

Looking down at her own chocolat stained fingers, she briefly contemplated licking the rare delicacy off of them before settling on a slightly more dignified response. Curling her hand into a fist, she held it out facsimile of Espinoza's bastardized handshake. Thankfully the woman wasn't insulted by the peasant gesture... If anything, her easy bump of knuckles in response made it seem to be the proper choice.

"Be safe, the Undersiders might come looking for revenge after what you did to Tattletale. If you change your mind or need help or even just need to talk, you're more than welcome to call at any time." Miss Militia proposed in parting, to which Louise nodded her acceptance. It may be unlikely, but it was nice of the woman to extend the offer.

Minutes after Miss Militia left the room, Hinata activated her magical eyes for a moment. Convinced they were alone in the room, the younger girl whispered seriously, "There were small machines in that ration bar she gave you."

"Wha-" The Vallière girl started, being cut short by a small and calloused hand over her mouth.

"You can't trust them. There are armed guards stationed outside... t-they've been there since the Dallon sisters left and refused to answer my questions. I... had to cast a weak genjutsu on them to be allowed in and people keep trying to separate us. This is too suspicious and that woman clearly hoped to use subtle threats and your exhaustion to get you to join her village's nin." She sounded panicked and a bit desperate for the pinkette to understand.

[] Let them posture and play their games, you've missed three days worth of happenings and the city could be exploding all around you for all you know.
[] Try to find your datapad-phone thing and search for local events on the... internal nets? Interconnecting nets? Whatever it is.
[] Quiz/use Hinata to gather information.

[] You've been contaminated and could be moments from dying horribly, this calls for desperate measures... and lots of magicka.

Wow, I wasn't expecting that. They're probably just trackers, but it's still incredibly sketchy.

Where is the lair de Valliére? Is it Greg's, because we really don't want to lead them there if it is trackers - IC because it's our secret base, and OOC because that little mess got fortuitously blamed on Bakuda, if I recall correctly.

[X] Stealth mission: gather your belongings and escape unnoticed with Hinata.

(@PieceThruWar you probably want to add dashes to the suboptions like I did here so the Tally works properly.)

We can go there and explain why we bailed - they'll presumably be unimpressed with them adding nanobots to our food, and when the PRT arrive rip them a new one. Alternatively they think this is fine and try to hand us over, and then the PRT think we're panicking kids running from the big agency that spooked them, and not vicious killers the way heading to Greg's or throwing war magic around would likely lead to.
