:???:

What's the matter with all this talk of giving Viserys an overgrown lizard that will take four to five years to be the size of a horse. By then Viserys will be a fucking God, or permakilled. A dragon rider may have been hot shit 300 years ago, but that time has long since past. Ultimatedly, I'm with squeaky on this one, as Viserys giving his dragons to his subordinates sends a powerful message all by itself, and no amount of Prince Sheo's ridiculously convoluted scenarios is going to change that. Bleh. I thought we had resolved this issue months ago... wont keep wasting electrons since any argument I could make has already been repeated ad nauseum.

Anyway, you guys have been pretty much arguing in circles for the past 5 pages. At this point not much is going to change the others opinion. Let's just table it for now.
So thats why there were a bunch of new pages in so short a while, good thing @Wheel of time caught up already.

Mind affecting ones?

Not to mention he has three classes with good will saves. Make him a +1 WIS item and he will have a base Will save of +10. Comparable to someone at 10th level with a +3 to their save stat and a good save progression.

So even without it, he is already rated excellent at Will saves. Force of Personality is frivolous.

Fair point.

If DP allows Maelor's Tiefling nature to qualify in place of Fiendish Heritage, I would rather retrain Force of Personality into Fiendish Power for more SLAs. Practiced Spellcaster still just isn't very good for Maelor right now.

The reason is that we haven't been actively looking for dragons. We've known about Illyrio for years now and we haven't done anything about it. Now we have lots of party members that can do a LOT of active searching and lots of places TO search.
We, quite frankly, have way more important ways to spend our time than hunting rumors of dragon eggs. We have conquests to plan, Lichs to sacrifice, the Long Night to prevent. You're advocating for a lot of time wasted for uncertain gain.
Following the same logic, who says Tiamat would let him keep any of that?

It's not like she has a claim on Blackfyre.
The reason I want to go after Illyrio isn't money, it's because he's a well-positioned enemy who can do considerable damage to us if left alone. And because it will be satisfying to kill him. If he has stuff we can properly loot, of course we loot it. Magic items, money, etc, all ours now.

But I'm not counting on Blackfyre--Tiamat has almost certainly gotten that in the hands of her new toy cleric--and I'm not counting on dragon eggs. That's not just lucky for us, that would be DP taking pity on us and giving us an OOC freebie.

CL also works for overcoming SR tho, and his spell so a purposefully picked so hey wouldn't be gimped by low CL.

It's generally useful. Especially as he is getting another load of spells before a new feat becomes available.

We get Greater Invocations, aka the really good ones, at 12th anyway.

I don't have any issues with the changes to Glyra's level up, @TotallyNotEvil. For Maelor, I still favor waiting for Practiced Spellcaster. Mage Armor can be cast from scrolls, but if Maelor knows the spell, he can keep himself and Glyra protected without need for resupply.

It will be, but right now, or even with the spells TNE wants, the caster level boost isn't all that helpful.
And neither does Fiendish Power. That's essentially +1 DC to Charm, which is decent, but not all that. For now.

Practiced Spellcaster helps with resisting dispel and counter dispel, helps with duration, and helps with SR.

And I just realized: how come he has five first level spells?

Also, you need to pick a second level spell.

I meant Fiendish Presence, not Fiendish Power. The SLAs would be very useful for Maelor's assigned tasks.

No clue how we ended up with 5 spells for him already. Rather than learning a new 1st level spell, we need to decide on one to remove.

That's rather meh, honestly.

Cause Fear is essentially useless, Detect Thoughts is situational, Suggestion is good but 1/day...

Marginally.

Honestly, I'm not too thrilled to spend a whopping two feats to get Teleport self only 1/day and SM V Fiendish only 1/day.

And unholy blight I suppose, for all that it will never be used.

Just got an idea.

Could we get Yss to teach Leila Hill all the cleric spells we want her to learn? That way we don't have to spend party time on it, and we can make our baby adventurer strong enough to potentially send out on a mission with other baby adventurers.

And it's not like we don't already have enough good credit with Yss that we can't ask this.

@Goldfish @TotallyNotEvil any level 0 - 2 cleric spells in particular you guys want her to learn?

EDIT: The more spells she knows the more things she can craft all on her own.

It's not great, but it's the only way Maelor will gain the ability to Teleport before level 14, when he finally gains access to 5th level Sorcerer spells, or 16 when his Child of the Dark spell can be bast using a 6th level spell slot to gain Teleport as a temporary SLA. Same goes for Summon Monster V, and Fiendish monsters should also include Achaierai and Bearded Devils from the summons list.

You've got the votes to carry the level ups, but keep the Fiendish Heritage and/or Fiendish Legacy feats in and I'll consolidate my remaining votes with yours.

@Goldfish ...Could we retrain it at 14? Because it doesn't seem that great except for simple expedience.

Most characters live without 1/day teleport self.

And, he is a UMD monkey. He can use scrolls.

I've modified my plan, what about that?

Practiced Soellcaster gets more interesting as we craft him a pair of Goggles of the Sun so he can Spellblast with Fireballs.

I'm torn between Quicken and Maximize SLA. We could do a lot with a simple maximized mortal bane Eldritch blast, using a Chausuble of Fell Power and a Warlock's Scepter.

Seriously? You're dedicating a feat to Quicken Eldritch Blast? And I still don't get the fixation on Practiced Spellcaster; Maelor doesn't have enough of the appropriate types of spells to make it worthwhile for several levels.

Plenty of people make do without Teleport, for sure, but most of them would gladly accept the ability if they had the opportunity. If Maelor was part of the main party frequently, it wouldn't be as useful. That's not the case, however, as he and Glyra are on their own most often, without support from those with a broader range of abilities. 5th level spell scrolls are expensive as hell, too. We could give him a Teleport scroll for emergencies, while he could use his SLA for day-to-day travel.

Okay, on reflection, I do think retraining it is basically a must when he gets access to 5th level spells, but just being able to handle transportation on their own without us having to play taxi is a pretty big deal. Bigger than having it as an escape option, tbqh.

A literal one-way-ticket is not as good as you make it out to be. Two feats is a hell of a lot to invest.

I highly doubt it will get much use. A pair of scrolls would do the job even better, for all intents and purposes.

I've changed to Maximize SLA. Let's make him a dirt-cheap pair of Gloves of Eldritch Admixture, and he can use his Mortalbane to fire three 54 damage Eldritch Blasts per day. Not shabby at all.

Sounds pretty good, and only gets better as his EB improves, and we can help with, say, a Warlock's Scepter and a Chausuble of Fell Power.

His usual partner in crime lacks damage dealing capabilities, and so does his spell selection.

Remember, he has long-duration flight.

Okay, @das_slash, @Sqweaktoy, @Deliste, @065tdsa, @ryuan, @iggyfan, here's my last ditch attempt at a level up plan vs @TotallyNotEvil. I hope some of ya'll are still awake. The only difference between our plans now is the assignment of two feats.

I'm not planning for Maelor to be hot shit in three levels. I'm going for maximum usefulness now, in the role we have selected for him as a spy, saboteur, and general trouble shooter, not a front-line fighter. To accomplish that, I've selected Fiendish Heritage & Fiendish Legacy to get Maelor the ability to Teleport and Summon Monster V each once per day as SLAs, while he's going for the Maximize SLA Feat to boost Maelor's Eldritch Blast 3/day. The Fiendish feats can be retrained at later levels when they aren't as useful.
