Magical Girl Quest - The Fire That Burns

*looks around*

Naron's not online :V

Things to keep in mind:

1. Even if thermal control is bullshit, this is a constant magical storm which is pretty impossible for reasons entirely unrelated to heat. Assuming that we can take the storm out is risky.
2. Cerys didn't even know there was water in air until a few weeks ago. I somehow doubt that she knows how to use thermal control to correctly disband a storm anyway. Might be able to ask Morgan though.
3. The length of a thunderstorm is generally much longer than the range of thermal control anyway. Can't really effect it for more than just a bit around us, if thermal control wins over stormbound when this is specifically stormbound's area of specialty.
4. The sky is very much its domain, it is where the storm is, and it is so much faster than we are, and will remain so even if we spend all our xp on flight right now.

hmmm...

[X] Plan Strike down from the Heavens:
-[X] The sky is not your domain— it rules the storm and flies faster than you do.
--[X] Prepare a plasma sphere, or more if you are confident in your ability to move with them and use halt on it before moving the plasma sphere(s) towards one of its wings. If it breaks free or can still fly without its wings:
--[X] Use the water against it- Form ice around it's body to drag it down. Keep at it until it has neutralized your ability to do this or you have dragged it down to earth through sheer weight.
--[X] Use the ice thermal weapon to hit it with freeze.
--[X] Keep up fire around its head to blind it
--[X] Use the water from the storm to make blocks of ice in the direction it is flying so that it has to dodge or stop. If it tries to break through the ice, use halt on the ice.
--[X] stay a good distance lower than it, you'd rather not be hit with lightning from the storm if you can help it, and it going closer to the earth only helps you.
--[X] If it starts to build up speed despite all these measures use halt to break that momentum.
--[X] Use ice to try to limit its ability to fly away, you must not let it flee.
--[X] Attack with thermal Weapons or Plasma Spheres whenever you get a good oppurtunity. Try to take it down fast.
--[X] Try not to damage the mountain in any way, you don't want to deal with whatever is making it so hot.

Idea is mainly to get it away from the thunderstorm and make it absolute hell for it to stay in the air. Hopefully the first strike with the plasma sphere(s) can knock it out of the sky, since from there it'd be much easier to deal with. Even a chance if there is more than one sphere that it could be oneshot like the wolf. On the other hand if it doesn't it might be able to wittle us down, especially with its thunderbolt spell.

Fire to block the sight to hopefully fowl its mundane senses enough to make dodging its attack easier and to add more confusion to it.

I am admittedly really inexperienced when it comes to battle plans and fully expect Naron to make a better version when he comes on but at least I tried for once :V.

That or at the very least hugely simplify it because I suck at that :V

If this is dragon mountain like some are speculating, seeing how Morgan described meeting a dragon as:

and Rukia has likened fighting a dragon to this before:

I really don't want to risk waking a sleeping dragon.

Personally think it is a bit hubristic to think that trying to figure out electricity to fight the lightning bird will work. That is its specialty after all :V

Maybe after this.

We should also come up with an exp plan

But I'll leave that to you guys :V

Suggestions: Flight might be good, because we are fighting a flying opponent and getting to level 5 flight doubles are air speed.

@Rukia what does leveling up Halt do mechanically (at least before it hits a milestone and upgrades from bind to something else)?

Depending on that answer, Halt might be a good idea for leveling up.

Plasma Sphere might get a milestone at level 5. Beware though, because that milestone might end in the Collateral damage Ability. Uncertain, and very possibly not, but a there is a chance.

On the other side you can all take a risk and not spend any xp, go for high risk vs high reward in that we do really need to save xp if we are ever going to get Hungering void or incineration, or any other higher xp thing that will eventually appear in the shop.

But you know, that might be a bit dangerous :V

On the other hand, things would be so much easier with Hungering Void if we work on building enough xp for that :V

I'd also suggest we attempt a bombardment with our Ice Spears, like we did with the Megatherium. Prepare a large amount of spears and throw them at once so it doesn't dodge/it grants us more damage. Granted, moving with a large amount of spears would be difficult, and I doubt it would be as easy to get the Thunderbird as it was for the Megatherium.

For the moment, I'll vote for your plan. I think there's room for further refinement, but I'm not that good at battle plans either :V.

[X] Sinarblood

No interest in the thermal shock plan to cause the Thunderbird to explode like a filthy normie?

I would love to implement that plan. On further consideration however, magic is a bit messed up and normal science doesn't work as expected when it comes to it. This plan does have the potential to do it though, since it focuses on "freezing the air around it" and then "blinding it with fire". It's not as direct as straight up doing it, but I think it has the potential to work out like that.

Changed the first line to:
--[] Prepare a plasma sphere, or more if you are confident in your ability to move with them, or multiple thermal spears if you are not and use halt on it before moving the plasma sphere(s)

Originally it was meant to see if we can do a barrage of plasma spheres like that, like how we did with thermal spear. Since our Plasma spheres are stabilized now I figured it might be the case. Though might as well put thermal spears in if that isn't viable, which may be the case.

Also is everyone just going to save xp? If not you need to also come up with an exp plan too :V

(Hungering void is tempting to save towards, though this has the potential of being the hardest fight so far)

I think you have a favorite smiley but I need more time just to be sure.

Nah :V

I mean, it's not difficult to just try and then move on if it doesn't work right. Thermokinesis has the range to supercool it or the air around it, and then you hit it with thermal spears or plasma to flash-broil the chilled areas. Worst case, chilling it has little effect and you only get the heat damage.

Nah :V

I'm not willing to spend any more XP for the moment. The plan itself doesn't require it, as most of the skills and capabilities you're implementing are strong enough for your plan to work. We've also consistently overestimated our opponents here, and I think saving up is a good decision.

Also, you might want to consider the air-to-air missile support we're getting into your plan. If all else fails, they can support us by dropping the Thunderbird with fire support.

You know, I'm not really sure about the whole call out my Magical Girl name thing. I feels kind of... wrong? To not do it.

Hm... I think we should do this properly. What does the rest think?
(Imagine the look on people's face when we do that before we get started; and the understanding nods when we are done being the End to whatever we were fighting)
Could we make a standing vote to use the phrase? So that we do not have to constantly add a note to say it?

REKT.exe has been activated.
We are the nuke, after all.

And thank you, @Sinarblood, for arguing against the Flight-people while I was asleep. Just matching the thing in what it does best is not a good idea.

And... uh... did we just kill a little Shoggoth?

I am admittedly really inexperienced when it comes to battle plans and fully expect Naron to make a better version when he comes on but at least I tried for once :V.

I think I mentioned I will leave this one to the others... besides, I like your plan.

We've also consistently overestimated our opponents here
I think we were actually underestimating Cerys.
Rukia noted that those beasts are within the top 10% of Earth's magical population and could take dozens of regular enforcers without any trouble.

I do not know why no one got the idea to coordinate a swarm of helicopters against the Megatherium before, but the Blood Willows do not have any mechanic that can be exploited easily. We just used what works best -lots of fire- and then backed this up with unmatched control over it as well as a large sword to the face.

Thunderbird will be just as strong and this time, we can not stay out of range or create an inferno -the latter not if just to not wake the mountain-, so our main advantages are not in play.

Now to look at this plan in detail...
--[X] Use the ice thermal weapon to hit it with freeze.
--[X] Attack with thermal Weapons[...]
Should that be Thermal Spear, I wonder?

Those are the only things I really noticed. It looks good to me, if a little unconventional.
In fact, you did what I wanted Cerys to learn later on anyway, to alter the battlefield with ice within seconds (basically Instant Manufacture); a way to gain dominance even on enemy ground.

As for the mountain, though... maybe add a line about trying to influence its temperature? If it is a magical creature and not a natural occurence, Cerys can not do anything to it and knows that it is actually alive.
(She could later ask Morgan what kind of being can grow this big and get a small heart attack over the response :V)

EXP... hrm. We have 256 right now and while saving up might be a good idea... I think a little should be spent.

So I propose this:

[X] EXP Plan Stop Right There!
-[X] Halt to Lv 3 (45 EXP)

We do not need any more right now and better range on this sounds like a good idea. We will never be able to up it this cheaply again, either.

Aside from that, @Rukia, Thermal Spear did not yet get its increased stats on the Character Sheet.
Additionally, now that we did it a few times, do we have to continue having Cerys use her Ignition Aura as an addition to her armour or is that an automatic action?

Aside from that, what do you think Armoured Soul does now? It got a mystery addition due to interacting with Will to Live... hm. Maybe another save from death, or damage reduction... probably not much, a single-digit percentage if at all, but that would be nice.
Any other ideas what a strengthened soul and the will to survive could create together?

I think using our Magical Phrase should be reserved to when we are about to begin a serious fight. Its not something you use every time you want to go and use magic. Otherwise it reduces the impact of it. It has a more cinematic and dramatic flair if we use it as we are walking into a serious fight with fire exploding out of us while looking like a badass. Perhaps we could influence magic culture enough that using transformation phrases at suitably dramatic times can power up the MG for that fight? It would make it so that when you hear a MG use her phrase you know something epic is going to go down.

We probably could and that is a good idea... but those last three occasions would have been perfect for that.

In fact, how about something like this?

[] With how it feels wrong and all... indulge a little and call out your Magical Girl phrase when you go into serious fights

I think this counts as a serious fight. We don't have any extra advantages this time.

I just find it silly and impractical. "Hey, I'm about to announce my transformation really loudly! And sometimes when no one is around!" It's probably just Gaia trying to get Cerys to say it if Cerys doesn't want to then let end there. The same with Dayiu, she'll say it if she wants to.

Personally flashy introductions should only be done when not in a fight to the death.
cause theirs no point in introducing yourself to something that will soon cease to exist.

we should totally come up with a badass version of it to use as an intimidation tactic. maybe something like "the spark to ignite a burning age! I am ignition knight!" this would 1000% be for intimidation, and would in no way be indulging a child impulse to be silly, Cerys is far too grown up for that, for realises.

Also, you might want to consider the air-to-air missile support we're getting into your plan. If all else fails, they can support us by dropping the Thunderbird with fire support.

Feel free to vote for that, I was considering something similar, seeing how Halt could very well be carrying this fight.

As it is though, since some people specifically voted for me with the fact that I didn't post any xp plan in mind I can't really change my vote without ruining that.

I am kind of against using the magical girl phrase to transform whenever a fight is serious, because that might end up in causing a transformation in degrees rather than empowering us.

Like have the uncalled transformation become weaker and the called one be at current full power. We've been practicing getting our transformation done faster, the risk of it getting slower from having to say the full thing is to get full power is real :V

For now I would prefer if we get the idea in people's head that the magical phrase is a shortcut to accessing your armor when you are new and don't know how to form it on your own.

Training wheels :V

Going to bed now though, so see you all on the morrow.

No, she will not unless we tell her to.
This is a slight bit outside of her normal comfort zone, but not far enough to be OOC if we nudge her to do it.

Besides, look at it from the other side: once Magical Girls become a thing and the Local Dimensional Cluster gets opened to us, imagine the reactions when the Unified Dark hears a transformation phrase called out. Those guys will run the heck away from just knowing there is one of humankind's murder machines around.

Uh...
"I AM THE BEGINNING, I AM THE END! MAGICAL GIRL IGNITION KNIGHT!"
How much more badass can it become?

eh, as is it's a bit abstract. The direct implication of setting history on fire is a bit punchier in my opinion. It also very specifically does not hint that our affinity is anything but simple fire.

While that may be true... we can not change our phrase. It is a part of us.
Even the malleability of it all will not allow this, I think.

This, however, is a valid concern.
However, we already can use our magic without having to use the phrase or donning our armour at all... hm. I would not expect it to turn out like this, but it can not be denied outright.
Still, not using the phrase at all does not sit well with me, considering where the setting takes its inspiration from.

Besides, our phrase is not particularly long in comparison to what the enemy MG might have, so if both are forced to say it, we would have the advantage... and on top of that, maybe Cerys would not even get any limitations because she got her powers from Gaia; once the belief that Magical Girls just awaken takes hold, we might be exempt from this kind of drawback.

Not likely, I know, but this should also be considered.
