Magical Girl Escalation Taylor (Worm/Nanoha)

[X] Ring Bind

Hm, wouldnt Ring Bind be able to be used against targets like Cadejo? Targeting his tangible parts?

Also, Ring Bind should lead to quite useful stuff later on. Like hell, Taylor's fighting style in terms of relying on mid-range bombardment is similar to Nanoha. But one of Nanoha's favorite tactics against opponents that rely on close in fighting was to use Binding Shield spell, which was a combination of a shield spell and a bind. Blocking a opponent's attack and then locking them in place for a charged up strike. Example

I'm hoping that getting Ring Bind will open up a skill tree for something like that.

Oh hey, a clip that shows how Ring Bind is easily broken. Thanks man!
Sure, it's easily broken. By a superhuman. Who is also a mage. Honestly, between Burst, Ring Bind and Telekinesis, I think TK has the most sheer versatility, as Burst is just shotgun-style RoF, but Ring Bind is a close second and we're not likely to get TK in this vote. However, whilst this has not been confirmed or denied anywhere, I have a sneaking suspicion that capping out a tree will do a thing, and we're closer to capping the Flare tree than the Entropy tree, my vote goes to:
[X] Burst

Broken by a product of ancient Belkan genetic engineering (superior mana capacity, on top of inheriting genetic memories and likely skills from her ancestors). And using a specific spell/skill that hard counters binds called Unchain Knuckle. Which isn't something a normal parahuman can use.
It also got broken alot in the earlier seasons of the show. S1 Fate, IIRC.
Burst is just shotgun-style RoF
Burst (1/1 Master) – Modification for Flare Shooter and Rust Shooter. Bullets can be set to explode upon contact or remotely.

Get the blasted bind already. It's essential to a blaster's strategy, especially for the big wind up spells.

AFAIK binding shield wasn't developed until later. But if you are talking about Ring Bind, no, for example the big fight Nanoha had with Fate, Fate didn't manage to escape ring bind before Nanoha hit her with Starlight Breaker.
OK, so I didn't remember that fight right.
I swear Ring Bind got broken semi-regularly during the first few seasons, but my memory has been shown to be wrong...

Ring Bind is used a lot in Nanoha because everyone worth shooting has some form of super speed. All the mages in Nanoha and A's have high speed flight and the ones who don't in StrikerS and Vivid are almost all superhuman.

The vast vast majority of opponents were are going to fight, and have fought for that matter, have no Mover abilities. Unless your power includes superspeed or teleportation you simply aren't outrunning a Shooter spell or escaping the area of effect for a blaster spell.

The big draw of Burst for me is that when applied to Flare Shooter it lets us take out clustered groups of people, when applied to Rust Shooter it lets us just destroy electronics/technology rather then having to target weak points, and it's hinted to unlock the danmaku version of our Shooter spells:
So we can turn our Shooters into explosive variants(once we learn Burst) but is there any way to bury our target in numbers instead of bigger explosions? Looking at the Wiki for Axel Shooter there's a variant called Avalanche Shift that launches "A large amount of shooters like an avalanche" compared to her normal maximum of 32 bolts at the same time.

So is there a way for us to get a Shift modification to our shooter spells or do we only have Burst?
Gee, maybe you should wait until you've actually finished that branch to ask for things. You have no clue what I've already given you or not.

Okay, that hint convinced me to go for it.

The only times that binds got trivially broken in the first few seasons iirc was by characters like the Book of Darkness (both the out of control defense system and the main control AI aka Reinforce)

Okay, a question. @Silently Watches is Shell Barrier (and Round Shield) a two-way barrier, or can we shoot through it from the inside just fine?
Shell Barrier is an area-type defensive forcefield centered on the caster that lets you pull yourself and those around you into a bunker. You can shoot out, but nothing can come in without breaking through the shell. That said, you also can't leave it without turning it off. There is a spell that lets the caster create these bunkers without being stuck inside them herself, but that's limited to the Infinite Enhancement template.
Emphasis mine.

So what exactly are these great things we can do with Ring Bind, that we can't do just as good with Frost Beam? Because it seems to me like if we want to bind someone in place, encasing them in an ice that won't give them frostbite should work fine...

How to train your Cadejo:
Step 1. Tell him "Bad doggie".
Step 2. Send lethal Flare Shooter into his mouth.
Step 3. Detonate Flare Shooter.
Repeat until full obedience is achieved.
