Yeah... but also Septons preach that there are demons in Hell from all the places. Well, they are technically telling the truth as Avernus is a battleground of the Blood War, but the spirit of what they say is definitely wrong.
Anyway, they should know that angels are not going to murderfuck them like demons do.

Ordering bringing magic items for checking or just 'checking' for demonic taint is a nice idea, unfortunately, those best at it (archons) would not be happy with us taking the (best) untainted stuff for ourselves

The Archons can be unhappy all they want, but they aren't stupid enough to pick a fight with us over our loot. That would not go well for them and they know it.

I'm not sure the Archons would even care at this point? Petty thievery or no, we are the only goddamn reason that the Abyssal Gate is gone. They would have died alone against the Mallor, they wouldn't have even been able to enter the Listener's ritual chamber without Lya, and they would have died against the Listener himself.
They will not begrudge us our loot.
Hell, one of the Archons saluted us when we came out of the Tower. An Archon. Saluted us. I can't even begin to imagine how much they respect us right now.

As a player base, we are less likely to push for loot since we got the tower, but keeping up appearances of 'greedy dragon' should reassure NPCs that we are logical and sane. Reassure them much more than getting to keep their stuff would, no doubt.

However, given the number of times that DP noted how Viserys carefully twisted words and threw half-truths against them, it seems to be less a case of us being convincing Good guys and more that Viserys is playing them like fiddles by now.
