I wish i had the photoshop skills to do the Gandalf the White reveal in Edoras but with Mathilde in armour under the robes.

So, the thing about that is that it wouldn't be any better. We'd be spending actions enchanting it for pure prestige, no mechanical bonus at all. Mathilde has not improved her ability to make 'robes as armor' in any way since we got the current set, and so any new ones would not be better than the old ones. At least the Request plan leaves us with We-Silk Robes that are an actual improvement.

The reason why Mathilde has not improved her ability to make armor is because we dont enchant enough personal gear, I get that we are running into mechanical diminishing returns at this point but I feel like we are not far from the next step up in enchanting capabilities.

Better base materials + the first upgrade to windherding are a good start, add to that any magical reagents can be found in Lothren and I am pretty sure Mathilde will be able to create something better then her current robes.

It's clear at this point that the quest mechanically makes it way easier to perform great deeds that are rewarded by top tier gear, but I am really attached to the scenes where mathildes actually build and enchants stuff, getting more gear as rewards just lowers the likelyhood of me reading stuff like that.

You know if the armor does win it will support a theory I've had for a bit: Given the chance Warhammer Fantasy quest protagonists evolve towards being Chaos Champions without the Chaos. The setting starts with the conceit that Chaos has a fundamental advantage over their enemies, they can have warrior wizards with divine blessings and order generally can't no wearing armor, no benefiting from miracles and magic at the same time.

SV looks at that and goes: 'Bet?' And then we scrape and claw and tear at the foundations of those limitations until we find an edge case. :V

Mathilde's enchanting ability is more than high enough- the limiting factor here is magic score. It was 9 when she made her current robes, and it's still 9.

AA's protection is determined by magic score, and doesn't stack with the durability of We silk, so excluding Windherding shenanigans the new robes would be exactly as durable as the old ones.

If we use AA yeah, sure. But with windherding in the equation there's some neat stuff one could combine.

Actually no, I take that back, it's not just SV, it goes back to the foundations of the original Knight Quest on SB: both Sir Gambert Rambert and Hadrian Rutheen who go back more than ten years ago now ended up as knights who could use magic, one with the blessing of the Lady the other Verena.

Warhammer quests definitely have a type and that type is being able to look a Chaos Warrior in the (way too many) eyes and say 'I'm you but better'. :V

[X] Plan: Eight Boons

-[X] Lights: KAU partnership with the Light Order's Ancient Library
-[X] Golds: EIC partnership for selling/buying alchemical ingredients and products
-[X] Jades: techniques for drawing magic out of waystones
-[X] Celestials: Books on prophecy
-[X] Greys: Operatives to expand the reach of the EIC intel network
-[X] Amethysts: establish a branch college in Wurtbad with a focus on hunting undead (open to wizards of all eight winds)
-[X] Brights: Gyrocarriage enchanted with Inextinguishable Flame

A lot of this is stolen from Pickle Requests, but I have changed out a few things I thought were uninteresting. The golds are very wealthy from their alchemical products, I think getting a partnership deal with the EIC would be a strong move and get the EIC a strong presence in Altdorf and Middenheim. It could also benefit the gunpowder factory. The celestials is perhaps the most boring—just everything they have on prophecy—but it could be of advantage when we study the Nehekaran scrolls. The Jade option was mentioned earlier—their techniques for drawing magic out of waystones. They are the only college that can do this, and finding methods for the other winds could be massive—even if there isn't a use for that level of magic yet. Wurtbad is one of the only major cities that doesn't have a permanent wizard presence, and it could be the capital soonish. Getting the colleges foot in the door with a dedicated branch college could pay off for years to come, and be a permanent mark of Mathilde's influence there.

Idea for "compromise": Von Taurus's Armor with We-silk-made cloak 😉
One thing I could see us doing at some point if we take the armour is enchanting a We-silk robe specifically for stealth, allowing Mathilde to spec for a given mission either as an unkillable wizard-knight or as an undetectable wizard-scout/assassin. She has the flexibility and training to perform either role regardless of her equipment, of course, but if the Armour of von Tarnus would give her the sheer resilience to take a hit from a Bloodthirster, it would be equally nice to have the sheer lack of presence to avoid the notice of a Lord of Change when she wanted!

Every SV/SB Warhammer quest is a journey towards the ultimate destination of an armored wizard-knight riding a steamtank backed by cannons who is best friends with Dwarfs.

Sure, I'll approval vote that. I think it's a bit late to get 160+ votes on something, but you never know, thinks (almost) as crazy have happened.

Just like carcinization, convergence on a sweet spot of offence, defence, and mobility.

We did not get this thing with money, we got it with favors, unless he has something we want more than we do keeping the armor and is willing to trade he's not getting it.
On the other hand, it would be relatively easy for us to get it to him if there is a battle he is going to be crucial in, that we are not going to be there for.

Additionally, Ranald cares about Mandred and Heidi cares about Mandred and we care about Mandred and the Empire cares about Mandred.

I am sure one or more of them could nudge/ask us to get him the armor if they thought it was appropriate.

I am also intrigued by the eight boons. I like the EIC in general, and this could be interesting.

Personally, I'd recommend not even worrying about switching between this or that as things hit the top: Play it like a secret ballot. Yeah, the nature of the format means you can see the results as the vote is ongoing, but there's something to be said for pretending the count doesn't exist and that the tally is just a list of options.

Don't worry about the top contenders. Just pick everything that speaks to you, or else pick everything but the one thing you mislike. If you change your mind on what you want you can add in something else later, but otherwise pull up a grab bag, and then don't even worry about it.

Don't worry about your "most favorite." Don't worry about the strategy. The spirit of the vote, and the nature of the question that it asks, is just flipping a hundred Booleans this way or that: With each one either you like it, or you don't. I won't say it's better than way, but I will say that every voting system is a question, and approaching it like that strikes me as playing into the nature of the question the approval voting system assumes and encourages.
That depends on your use of the word "worry". If you mean that one should try not to get any anxiety over this then I'm fully with you. If you mean people should purposefully not attempt negative voting against the option(s) they want to see the least, then I wonder why.

There's things I like more and there's things I like less. Given that I can't do ranked choice voting, due to it being too complicated and bothersome to parse for a quest like this, there's nothing that speaks against investing a bit more time to keep my vote reflective of my preferences. And if others feel free to do strategic voting to get something closer to their preferences, then there's no reason that I shouldn't either.

And I say all this as someone who happens to not have felt the need to change their vote since late February. Because that may change any time. Specifically once both the armor and the eight requests noticeably overtake the airship and the armor simultaneously beats the eight requests. Or, I guess, when another option I prefer more gets a sudden wave of support.

Von Tarnus is the best at being armor. It is true. But that's pretty deep into the defensive onion.

Before you get to that point, I ask, have they been crushed into a bloody smear by artillery? There is a flying ship dedicated to warfare and exploration named the prismatic wanderer that might help with that!

Ithilmar plate armor from the karak Vlag Boon carved with runes from thorek's impending adventure, with we silk under armor and robes atop, will probably do pretty good after our enemies have been softened up just so.

I'm not sure where we can get a replacement to airship on the other hand. Nor any plot developments or favors we can use to make it a totally sick airship as opposed to a regular airship.

This strategy of overwhelming aerial fire support is not always applicable, of course. Sometimes the enemy will be inside of a building that we don't want to level in a encore of castle von Drakenhoff!

It's very sad.

Sufficed to say I'm personally still on for Plan: The Prismatic Wanderer

even if I think Plan: The Next Generation is even better than that.

Re-adding prismatic wanderer cuz I really dislike monopolizing the armor.

My main source of distaste for the armor of Von Tarnus is that it obviates all the progress Mathilde has made as an enchanter, with her Aetheric Armor mastery, and with finally getting the We silk online.

Even if the armor of Von Tarnus is mechanically superior, it makes for a stronger narrative statement for Mathilde to wear a cloak that she made, in every aspect, from the ground up - that could only exist because of her.

If it's a direct runoff choice between the armor and the airship, then I have to say I prefer the airship, because at least there there's the *opportunity* for Mathilde to stick her oar in and directly contribute, and to use it as a chance to try to get generally closer ties between the colleges, even if I don't really care that much about the final product at the end.

(At least, if it's a one-off masterwork. If we come up with something more replicable by the colleges/dwarfs in the future, such that it's the start of an eventual new paradigm, I'm significantly more interested.)

This in particular is why I would really, really prefer to take Tenure and then have Airship Production be Mathilde's next big project.

Consider that we got a demonstration of the lift gas fountain at K8P, and that we have WEB-MAT right there.

I Don't understand why empire wizards would be any authority in nonmagical airship construction. liftgas makes airship construction a thing of aerodynamic and mathematics.
