As a comparison daemons do sometimes possess orks. It mostly just results in an ork who argues with himself more than normal.

Also when genestealers try to infiltrate an ork clan the hybrids get killed almost at once for not being violent enough.

Orks are just built different.

Random wild tangent, I eventually want to buff Vita and Cia so much that we can enter the domain of a Chaos God and survive. Stealth and Shielding being the primary focus there.

Then I want to aim us towards Nurgle, kidnap Isha from him, and then drop a few passive psychic fire-bombs on the way out.

Mostly because I like Isha, but also because it'll get MASSIVE points with the Eldar, we could use her to study positively aligned Warp Entities for the creation of our own Pantheon of them to fight Chaos with, and possibly even picking Her brain for all that juicy biological/medical/terraforming knowledge she likely has.

The biggest reason though, beyond just being a generally decent thing to do for a species that's already suffering and could use a win from an ally to get them to stop being so awful to everyone else…

I hate Nurgle. And this would be such an incredible middle finger to him, and also slow down his plague research… just…

I love the idea of messing with Nurgle so much.

Embodiment of filth, decay, stagnation, depression, Jolly Nihilism, and disease.

Wretched thing… I hate Nurgle more than most of the Chaos gods. I don't like any of them, but Nurgle is my #1 most despised.

We chose the wrong speciality for Cia to do that kind of stuff. As a combat champion, her abilities go in a different direction than large scale amplification.

Oh, I know! I want to have Cia burn the lock sealing Isha in her cage, and help fend off any Daemons/Daemon Princes/Daemon Primarchs that try to stop us.

The firebomb idea is more along the lines of Psytech WMD than Cia's personal powers. Study her pyromancy and Eldar warp-craft to create a powerful Pyromancy bomb that she can detonate on her way out. If we can get faith research done and possibly taint the bombs with Big E Warp Power, that'll be even better thanks to his Anathema aspect.

I just want to get in, steal the shiny (mostly good) Warp Goddess for study, and leave while burning down The Garden on our way out.

Mostly because Nurgle is the worst and I personally blame him for the stagnation and decay the IoM and every other species is currently going through. On a conceptual level, at least.

Edit:
Don't think so, our shields are the opposite of stealthy, they work by shouting No! at full blast to everyone in earshot.

I mean, I did specify developing Stealth Tech to a greater degree. I have to think there's a chance we could improve our Shielding to be more stealthy, and the idea itself won't be viable for centuries at LEAST. Likely closer to a millennium. I'm not expecting anything impressive any time soon.

For context if this is modern day 40k the imperium isn't really gone. It's suffered a fall and it's been diminished in force of numbers, but a lot of primarchs have been crawling out of the woodworks recently, and it's pretty safe to assume the trend will continue.

@Neablis question do we need an order action to set up a response plan for dealing with a dark eldar encounter essentially having a roll specifically towards combat rather than the overall exploration?
The way action economy works is that the more you put in the more you get back. An explore action on the gate will look for the gate and fight the DEldar if they're there and rolls permit. An extra order action will likely mean you scour the system, or chase them if they run away, or in general do something extra towards that goal depending on how you phrase it.

Is there merit in attempting to reform the imperium without directly conquering/subverting it, or would we have a moral imperitive to see it replaced outright? I'd prefer the first but I'm happy to pursue either option wholeheartedly. I just want to know if I'd be wasting my time or not.
The Imperium as a whole? That's gonna be rough. They're huge and any significant subversion would turn into a rebellion and thus direct military action pretty quickly. Unless you went for the very top and even then it'll be hard, see Song of Peace.

But small, isolated planets like the ones that are mostly scattered around this sector? Much easier. Different depending on the planet, of course.

Vita having to engage with the Bad Imperium, smiling while going 'what the fuuuuuuuck' I want us to start dealing with them and start setting up subversive organisations, looking for powerful (and thus guilty) figures to turn through personal interest, blackmail or ambition.
Noted. Kind of dependent on votes though, but I agree it's kind of a fun vibe.

Hey @Neablis, is my write-in in this plan acceptable? Not sure how much an Explore action would work also as a Diplomacy action based on your previous statements, so tried to keep it very limited, with actual trade happening with a dedicated diplomacy action on the next turn.
Yeah, that's mostly fine. It's going to depend heavily on rolls and will effectively replace a sub-turn if one is needed, but you'll probably trade some examination of the webgate for diplomacy with any eldar that come through.

Please put this or similar in the quest philosophy, this would be an excellent concept to cite during voting and a deterrent to recursive contingency planning.

Just want to make sure we're all on the same page. The general plan is to go look for the Webway gate to establish friendly relations with some Craftworld Eldar and/or hunt down the Drukari. That sound about right?

More or less. The amount of focus people put on it varies though. I put two actions on it (exploring for the webway+talking to local eldar), some others put one.

This plan focuses on fixing our trouble the Dark Eldar gave us, it will research two sensor techs (Better Sensors, Empathy as Sensors) so we'll see them coming and can shoot down their shuttles/ship next time.
Additionally both tech will allow us to better scan the Webway. Empathy as Sensors specifically gives us Warp-sensors which are useful for: another detection vector on Eldar, analyzing Psychics, analyzing and keeping an eye on Bongo.

Human Simulation Implants are our long awaited bonus RP from having a tech-priest crew.

Medical School is needed so Cia heals up correctly.

Improved Machine spirits will make our bots better should we get boarded again. Or should we find reason to deploy them.

Basic power armor is for Cia, because as we have just seen she will go into combat whether we want her too or not. I'd rather she survived it.

Finally we'll go have a look at the webway gate, with the highest priority being scanning the gate, secondary getting some trade going and only tertiary going after the Dark Eldar.
He just isn't that important.
Also if we meet again we should include some mockery about the loot we got.

[] Plan: No longer blind
-[] [Free] Repair all Damage
-[] [Free][DATA] The Eldar. More specifically the ones you ran into just now. ...You are dreading what you will find when you open their files.
-[] Research x3 (600 RP + 65 Anexa RP)
--[] Ok, maybe there's a point to medical school (45/50 RP -> 50/50 RP)
--[] Human Simulation Implants (150 RP)
---[] Anexa 65 RP
--[] Better Sensors (200 RP)
--[] Empathy as Sensors (100 RP)
--[] Improved combat Machine spirits (100 RP)
--[] Basic power armor (100 RP)
--[] Improved Gellar Fields (10/100 RP)
-[] Explore: Eldar Webway Gate at Oladeer
--[] Highest priority are scans of the gate.
--[] Secondary priority is trade with non-asshole Eldar.
--[] Tertiary priority is finding a lead on that Drukhari Raider, probably via talking to other Eldar. If you're lucky you won't have to search for him and he'll run into your newly improved sensors.
-[] Anexa active Action: Research
-[] Victan passive action: Counterespionage & Alliance-building
-[] Cia Active Psyker improvement

compared to the last time I posted it, I clarified the priorities on approaching/scanning the Webway gate.

We might not want Cia to be active? Not sure what the threshold for perils is, but I'm pretty sure it goes *up* as she gets to be higher leveled.

She's still only level 5, our psi lab has good shielding.

I (and I think most other plan makers) judge the risk as acceptable for her leveling more.
She has a lot of catching up to do.

I do think redirecting the third research action to explorediplomacyfight harder might be good with essentially no other change to the plan.

EDIT: the logic being that I would want us to have enough capacity to both fully explore the gate (hopefully securing a research option) and do a solid job of at least one of talking to not-dark eldar or shooting dark eldar.

I chose against that because 1) I want to research more, dropping the action means dropping 200RP. Which ones?
2) both eldar and dark eldar might not even show up. We have no way to know. The Dark Eldar might be long gone through the webway, they were moving in that direction the last time. The Eldar might not show up because they heard about the Dark Eldar around here.

Posting my plan. Here is what Neablis had to say about the write-in:

So besides the write-in of throwing around WEALTH to try solve our problems? I'm going with a research heavy plan.

Cia has just shown the beginnings of her worth, and I want her prepared with the best gear and tech. Not to mention combat neural implants would also help the survivability of our tech-priests, as well as Anexa's and Victan's if they are ever caught in combat. Maybe more importantly in the immediate sense, combat Machine Spirit improvements seems like a good move. Especially together with better articulation, that can be applied later. If the Drukhari (or anyone else) try to invade our ship again, just the improved combat programming for our bots could make a big difference.

Meanwhile, better "regular" sensors has been noted to be the more important against stealth between it and the warp sensors, the latter being for the more esoteric threat detection and phenomena observation. And HSI is just something we should do if nothing is stopping us for the extra RP.

[X] Plan: Woman of Fire and Steel
-[X] [FREE] Replace damaged medium macrocannon with light anti-stealth sensors (see improved sensors) and repair all remaining damage to the Spark.
-[X] [Free][DATA] The Eldar. More specifically the ones you ran into just now. ...You are dreading what you will find when you open their files.
-[X] Explore: Eldar Webway Gate at Oladeer
--[X] Go after the Drukhari. If they have already escaped, try to find and hire a Corsair or Corsairs at the Webway Gate to bring you the head of Xylaris Moiryth, as well as the taken people and any stolen goods if they are retrievable. If this is not acceptable, try to buy information about Xylaris. Besides this, signal that you are willing to trade later for any kind of interesting technology (next turn Diplomacy action) after this issue has been solved. (Budget for Victan: 250 BP worth of trade goods, negotiable up to an another 250 BP of trade goods on top of that on the next turn).
-[X] Research x3 (600 RP + 65 Anexa RP)
--[X] Ok, maybe there's a point to medical school (45/50 RP -> 50/50 RP)
--[X] Human Simulation Implants (150 RP)
---[X] Anexa 65 RP
--[X] Improved Armor Articulation (50 RP)
--[X] Basic power armor (100 RP)
---[X] Give Cia the prototype armor, if we manage to make a functional one.
--[X] Combat Neural Implants (50 RP)
--[X] Better Sensors (200 RP)
--[X] Improved combat Machine spirits (100 RP)
--[X] Blueprint: 10/100 RP - Advanced Technological Research Lab (500 BP, 100 CP)
--[X] Anexa active Action: Research (Human Simulation Implants)
--[X] Victan active action: Diplomat-Spy (Eldar negotiations if available)
--[X] Active Psyker improvement

EDIT: added 10 RP that I had forgotten to allocate to Advanced Technological Research Lab, we will need that for the DEldar tech samples
EDIT2: using the new capability of repair bay for refits to hopefully get the actual physical hardware for Better Sensors online

[X] Plan: Upwards And Outwards
-[X] Repair Bay (Repair Spark 800 BP)
-[X] Research 2x 400 + 65 RP
--[X] Human Simulation Implants (150 RP) (Anexa)
--[X] Ok, maybe there's a point to medical school (5 RP)
--[X] Basic power armor (100 RP)
--[X] Scrapcode Immunity (100 RP)
--[X] Improved Gellar Fields (100 RP)
--[X] Miniaturized antigrav (10/50 RP)
-[X] Explore
--[X] Find Ascalon Webway Gate
-[X] Travel
--[X] Caldereth
-[X] Anexa active Action: Research - assists a research action you take, granting +5xLevel RP to the action. Will level on successful roll, scaled by the importance of the tech.
-[X] Victan passive action: Counterespionage & Alliance-building - Defends against hostile covert action and improves relations with existing allies, as well as gathering information for making new allies. Will only level if something interesting happens.
-[X] Active Psyker improvement: Cia will actively attempt to practice her powers. Roll two d100s. Take the higher roll for determining level-up, but take the lower for perils of the warp.

Destroy the turtle who lives within you. We've got a lot of galaxy to see, and even our loop trip back to Denva doesn't need to take another century.

Research here should be uncontroversial, especially for a plan that's going to make a warp jump. We'll get a good benchmark from seeing how this changes our warp damage rolls.

Finally, I wish to a thousand times emphasize this statement from the QM:

The way action economy works is that the more you put in the more you get back. An explore action on the gate will look for the gate and fight the DEldar if they're there and rolls permit. An extra order action will likely mean you scour the system, or chase them if they run away, or in general do something extra towards that goal depending on how you phrase it.

These are how actions work in this quest. An action is no small thing to Vita. It's two years of effort, on average. It does everything rational within its scope that doesn't meet the threshold of another action. And we've been given mid-turns and post-turn decisions whenever anything of note happens - it is of no purpose to try to predict and specify them ahead of time.

We'll work with what we can with the gate, and then we'll get to explore our next system, which will hopefully be a more interesting place.

Upwards. Outwards!

To 1, the bit at the end with power armor and combat spirits. They're good, but I am not so worried about getting boarded again, especially if we're actually expecting trouble and have capacity for operations.

For 2, it's possible, but I think the worst case is we really scour that noisy, busy, historically utilized gas giant system. I don't mind doing that.

Righto, well, voting's open, so here we go:
[X] Plan: Hey Xylaris C'mere I Just Wanna Talk
-[X][FREE] Fix combat damage (Covered by repair bay)
-[X][FREE] Database Dive: Okay, what do we know about the Eldar?
-[X] Research *2 (400 + 65 Anexa RP)
--[X] Ok, maybe there's a point to medical school (45/50 RP -> 50/50)
--[X] Human Simulation Implants (85 RP + 65 Anexa RP)
--[X] Improved combat Machine spirits (100 RP)
--[X] Better Sensors (200 RP)
--[X] Boarding Capabilities (10/100 RP + Any surplus)
-[X] Explore: Find the Webgate and start trying to track down those Drukhari. Get what scans of it we can in the meantime.
-[X] Diplomacy: Start talking with any group around the Webgate we can find and try to get some information on this 'Bleeding Web', stating our willingness to trade for that information if necessary. And our willingness to trade in general, if only for some interesting technological samples.
-[X][VICTAN] Diplomat-Spy (Assist with Eldar communication)
-[X][ANEXA] Human Simulation Implants (+65 RP)
-[X][CIA] Active Training (I really hope she doesn't get too into improvement via pain)

This plan is dedicated to starting on covering the holes that the Drukhari exploited and making connections with the less assholish Eldar so we can gather leads on where the Drukhari went. If they're still lurking around, good for us, but I think it's more likely we're going to have to go on a bit of a chase, hence the focus on making connections and finding leads. The focus on trade will help us get some nice tech gubbins anyway, so it doesn't hurt to make friends.
