[Wish] Sabotage/Reverse Ambush
- Stay out of the main fighting and scout out Onogoro's lines in an effort to locate whatever their "trap" is. If it is some sort of ritual, disrupt it from outside while they are concentrating on setting it up. It it is some sort of artifact, or specialized mage, try and get the drop on them and take them out of the fight before they can react.

I said when we first heard about this attack that I think this whole thing should be handled more as an Intrigue action than Diplomacy or Martial. I'd rather hit them from behind than take them head on or try to avoid them altogether. Baring that, try and avoid whatever this is for as long as possible. Even if it won't work on us (which we don't know for certain), as long as they have their heads on this option, the likelihood of them going looking for other options that might actually work is lower.

On a side note, I wonder what we would need to do to get Usagi a copy of Sun Tzu's Art of War?

I don't like this situation. The last time the Ministry decided it was going act they set up a magical bomb to blow up an 18 story building smack dab in the middle of a major metropolitan center and a literal street across from the Imperial Palace. And that was all just to cover up them 'misplacing' a body of evidence, pun intended.

If they're carrying out a direct attack that so runs counter to their cultish dedication to hiding magic and staying in the shadows its gotta be because they're confident that they can pull off whatever it is that they are planning. That this attack is probably a trap for the Senshi doesn't improve my dour assessment.

Sealing rituals generally require the sealers to have control of the field either to prepare the site before hand, because the ritual itself requires focus on the part of the participants, or some combination of the two. It doesn't matter if the ritual itself is effective if it can't be invoked because of battlefield conditions.

If the Ministry feels confident that it can invoke a kami-sealing ritual, there's a good chance that they're bringing enough magic-metal onto the field to suppress MCAT's forces. Similarly, if the IMO believe that they can seal the Senshi then chances are they're also bringing enough folk to be able to, at minimum, hold off MCAT for long enough to capture any that have been weakened.

Worst case scenario, the sealing technique they're planning to use is a location based one like the one holding the Master of the Mountain and the IMO are attacking with the intent of seizing MCAT's headquarters and turning it into one of their sealing sites.

We've been used to fighting the Ministry and seeing them fold like paper cranes, but those have been defensive fights, when they've been caught unawares, and by enemies that they don't know the capabilities of. I feel like they're going to be tougher here. The IMO strikes me as an inherently offensive organization and most experienced in going after other people. After all, who's gonna attack someone that they don't even know exists?

I have a feeling this is going to end up being a fight where the Senshi are needed.

Keep in mind:
Tell MCAT everything you know, and if they ask you not to intervene directly, then don't. You believe in them. They can do this. There are a lot of wily people in charge at MCAT, and they have plenty of people and options.
All this says is that if they ask us not to intervene "directly", then we won't. There's nothing there about an indirect intervention, however we may go about doing that. Further, this "assumes" that MCAT isn't going to ask us for help, which... Well, it's a non-zero chance, but we've got a lot of good will built up with them, I don't see us Not making the offer, and considering that we could have left them out of our assault on Cendrellion's strip mall and Samui knows that (and that they can assess how badly that could have gone if MCAT hadn't been there given the resistance met taking it), there is a certain amount of "give and take" politics at play here. Even with our after-action assistance healing people, we owe MCAT one for their help, and Samui is probably acuitly aware of all of these points you brought up, so there's a pretty good chance of her cashing in.

MCAT already knows all of this stuff though, possibly even better than we do, since they have ex-Onogoro mages on staff. This isn't a vote on whether we should help them or not, it's a vote on whether we should override their judgement about whether we should be there. I think we shouldn't, because we don't actually have a basis to think we know better then them.

My read is that it's saying we won't intervene if MCAT directly asks us not to.
The reason I see it as the difference between helping with the main fighting on the MCAT campus, or doing something a bit more sneaky and not getting caught is because the vote itself is too stratified. Otherwise, why would the options for [Partycrashing] and [Attitude] be separate? If the options for [Trust Your Allies] and [Spring] both win for instance, and MCAT asks us to stay out of things, Spring could be considered a form of "intervention" because we are still participating, even if we aren't directly collaborating with MCAT's forces.

Again though, this all assumes that Samui is going to ask us to stay out of things if "Trust Your Allies" wins, which, while I admit is a non-zero chance, the politics, previous good will, and favors asked and owed between us means that is probably a lower likelihood outcome.

...Dang it all.

Yes, I believe that the Senshi are able to help, and that the fight against Onogoro will go smoother with their assistance. Yes, I believe we can plan to mitigate the worst of whatever trap the godhunters have for us.

But the more I think about the 'Never Turn Your Back On A Friend' option, the more it feels like 'we don't trust Samui's judgement', and that's not something I want to move forward with. I know the other 'Trap' option has the warning of affecting the relationship with MCAT in complicated ways, but I think that saying 'screw you, we're going to pull a Ryoga and show up anyway' will have similar repercussions.

Maybe Samui knows something about the god-trapping technique that we don't, that may affect the Senshi not just this battle but also in battles to come. Maybe she feels that future integration of Onogoro citizens requires a demonstration that MCAT is indeed their match, even without demigods in frilly dresses. Or maybe she does, indeed, trust the Senshi in turn and can adjust her battle plans to maximize their impact while minimizing their risk.

But at the end of the day, this is explicitly MCAT's fight, and if we are to respect them as equals, then we need to respect their choice on whether or not they need our help.

It depends on the choice of action I think.
Spring necessarily requires convincing MCAT to let us do it if we take Trust.
Evade doesn't. If they ask us to stay out of it, we could just swing around and hit a different area of interest while all their prep is at MCAT.

The way I see it the trap has basically the following range of possibilities:
1) It actually works on the right principles.

We'd have to overpower it with teamwork, equipment or transcendance bonuses. We're PROBABLY losing the engagement goals in favor of getting out of it. This is kind of a popular plot in MG series after all.
Our enemies could refine it once its proven, but conversely we'd know we're vulnerable to such things and look into countermeasures, admittedly on Ami's extremely overbooked schedule.

2) Wrong principles, but some element of it works on part of our schema. See the disruptor that was used previously.

We can throw it off given a few moments to figure out whats up.
In this scenario the second best case is for it to happen while with allies backing us up. The actual best case is a controlled test in private. Worst case is a temporary setback while something time critical is happening.
Our enemies would probably keep throwing it at us. Partial effect is better than no effect, and it gives information on what avenues are working or not working.

3) Flop. It doesn't work at all.

We got a good shot at capturing or otherwise defeating whoever tried it, auto win that engagement in short.
If its a flop we don't want the enemy to know it flopped however, because we'd very much rather they try it while we're kicking down their door and it doesn't do anything.
Or they keep arranging schemes to pin us with a trap that doesn't work.

TLDR - Any option involving letting Onogoro try out whatever plan they have is a poor one, since it either exposes a weakness or lets Onogoro pivot to more constructive ploys. The ambush team is just their elite field operatives. Onogoro is a government, they have more of those. Capturing the ambush team is more like taking out their monster of the week than their Dark General

Sorry, I know this might negatively impact our relationship with MCAT, but I can't see us ever willingly abandon a friend, even if they ask us to.

If a Pretty Cure team or Endymion or Kagome think they can handle something I trust them to be able to handle it. Trusting your friends to stand on their own two feet when they say they can is not abandoning them.

Now if they get their shit kicked in and they still try to tell us they have everything under control that's a different story, but right now if they tell us to back off we should take them at their word.

....Yes, exactly. That's the point.

For example, my "plan" given the three votes is to directly tell MCAT an that we know, and that we're both willing and prepared to spring that trap despite the risks. Then Samui or one of her employees can talk to us about how that is either a good or bad idea and refine our plans. I'd expect us to warn Samui that we'd be of limited help if our focus was on evading the trap, and I expect we'd get an earful for being stupidly overconfident if we said we were just going to ignore it.

Looking at these vote names, is Lunaryon trying to nudge us in a particular way? Because by naming one option 'Never Turn Your Back On A Friend' it basically makes the other option read as 'Abandon Your Friends in their Time of Need' no matter what the text says.
