On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

You know thinking about it this is a vote about how we think this reality works. If several things work here, if Thungi could arrange a personalized test that happens to produce a superior form of Rune Metal while proving some kind of moral point then yeah he is so far above Snori that we will never reach the level, the (rune) cake is a lie. But if we are dealing with the limitations of reality, a reality in which everyone from Thungi to Snori to those Dawi Zhar sorcerers had to play ball then yes there would be a logical answer that can be reasoned out by observing a physical system, bad people included. Blood as a medium of sacrifice, affinity and power is important in magic and the blood of runesmiths obviously has something to it since the Gift runs in family lines.

I think we've jumped a few steps ahead of what we can actually prove.

Oh, I agree, this is a Wild Mass guess, but the thing is when making a guess we still have to choose what kind of world we think we live in, because it is a question of what we are trying to guess at?
  1. Is it the divine mind of Thungi? Is this a theology question about what he thinks a worthy Runesmith looks like? Then we should do what we think best embodies that ideal. Hence Power, Will and things that can be derived from the riddle should be our guide.
  2. Or is it a physical system that works by predictable underlying rules? Then we should give our best answer for how to forge a better bar of metal that can forge more runes. That is Blood or Beard, though one could make the argument for Flesh as well

However and this is important.
Some of us aren't interpreting this vote the way you are treating it.

Nowhere in the update does it mentions the forge has runes. We were asked to
And I and plenty of other people took that literally and not that the flame was some convoluted metaphor for Runecraft as a whole.
The second and fourth leading votes aren't intangible concepts they're a solid item containing magical power and magical power transferred via actual creations. The difference isn't that they represent different ways of thinking about the world, they represent different ways of deciding what we're willing to sacrifice and what we think the best way of transferring literal fuel.
I suspect there are people who voted Blood, and they are doing it for the same reason.

That is fair. To address those: I think that feeding fire to fire is unlikely to work if we assume the question is fundamentally honest. If it had said something like 'feed the forge', putting fire inside of it makes more sense, but it says specifically 'feed the flame' not 'alter the flame', not 'improve the flame'.

I don't see why not. I mean the magical fire is sustained by magic, which feeds the flame.

It's just the way a dwarf can "just dump aqshy on it lol"

Aqshy is not fire, no more than Hysh is light or Ghyan is life, all of them are winds that come from the Aethyr which are drawn to those aspects of the material world, the correct dwarf way to say that would be 'just dump magic on it'
