Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

[X] A Proving Ground, allowing for the improvement of Mortal Talents, potentially even the Awakening of Essence

I rather develop Last Station into the gateway. And establish the precedent. It's symbolically important to own the first Proving Ground of the new age.

A gate is a bad idea, it's just asking to be invaded by people we can't readily stop. Nemesis at least would immediately make it a priority to get into Molly's soul, whatever it had to do to make that happen.

There are other options for safely moving lots of stuff around ranging from splendor based bags of holding to charms in our custom set.

That artifact forge is very tempting because it would allow us to pass the 3 dot border with more attainable reagents. Hell, we have a 4 dot reagent right now and could use it to make the kind of wonder that shapes reality.

It'd be a real shame for nemesis if a celestial arms dealer started trading in "fuck you for existing" items. Really that applies to anyone we don't like.

The proving ground option is also interesting, supposing it's more than adding merits or whatever. If we get something like our own Farou forge it could be very useful.

I don't want a permanent gate into Sanctuary. That seems like an awful idea, IMO.

I'm also not super enthused about the Proving Ground. Sure, it would definitely be useful, but it would also be a constant source of headaches. We have other ways to empower mortals if we want to. The forge, on the other hand, leans into one of our specialties and is a resource we can use almost exclusively, so the value it would have for others should be significantly lower.

Yeah, our own workshop of wonders would be amazing. We've gotten a lot of influence out of this already, and the difference is pretty stark in terms of what we can make and how often we can make it.

Just the trade potential with people we like is pretty substantial. 1 dots are a lot more practical to acquire for say a combat wizard than more substantial things, and 2-3 dot builds have a lot more options.

Guys we need a way to connect to the rest of the world, that isnt Molly.

Not this one. If we have a gate it will immediately be a hotbed of espionage and intrusion attempts. Anytime someone wants to mess with us or we're messing with them and they want us to stop the obvious tactic is to throw shit at our new glowing weak point to split our attention.

Protection can be set up, but there are limits and we need to win every time while our opposition only needs to win once to cause serious harm.

A spirit barge to carry more goods, a charm to make ghost trains to carry things around, something like the summoning/embodiment system of that weird WoD far realm tech god, or something like that would be a lot safer for much the same effect.

What we need is to not create more vectors for invasions and kidnapping attempts in the future. Nemesis can't possess Molly but there's nothing saying he can't infect a citizen of the Five Courts.

Pretty much this. Mikaboshi wanted to create a Proving Ground because it was his best shot. The bastard is throwing anything at the wall to see what sticks. We on the other hand have other options like what we did with Olivia not too long ago.

@DragonParadox Where is Olivia?

I dont have a strong opinion.
But Im paranoid, and enough of a control freak that I would want a portal to something connected to Molly's soul to be under Molly's direct personal control, which she could shut down with a thought. Not connected to the geomancy of the planet.

Failing that, I would put it somewhere I already had defenses and allies, like Last Station where Porter, Dresden and the family live is, instead of a new city we just showed up in.

Why do we need it?

Something like this would be a prime target for hostiles, and Molly has acquired an impressive list of enemies.
Im in no particular haste to have to defend against an Outsider incursion, or an army from the Wicked City, or a war party from the Red Court with a specialty bioweapon from the Fomor. All of which are canon incidents from WoD and the Dresden Files.

Hell, even the bumbling morons at Daedalus could well attempt an incursion.

Molly: "Hey, Von Trier. I just wanted you guys to know that I decided to open a permanent gate between the US and my empire. Without talking to you about it before. But don't worry, it's for trade and stuff."
Molly: "Unacceptable strategic vulnerability? Illegal border crossing? Tariffs? What are those, can you punch them? Sorry, I have no points in Law and Politics."

Edit: changed vote.

I think I would like this? That is why we went to all this effort wasn't it?

We went through the effort to keep it out of Mikaboshi's hands. Asset denial. We have other ways of empowering people and a Proving Ground likely has a higher chance of being used by those we don't authorize than a Forge that only we can really use.

Yes, we have other ways of empowering people, but none with potentially awakening more Exalted, if I understand it right.
Enlightened essence users aren't exalts, they're mortals who can use essence. Useful, but not even close to the same.

Edit:

Dropping my approval vote for the proving ground.

Molly: Here, let me call one of my ministers, Ancient L.U.C., over here, some nice people want to talk to you. What do you mean what are his qualifications? World Conquest I guess. Don't worry it wasn't for his own sake, it was for the Seeker Cult. What do the Seekers worship? Me, well and certain esoteric principles of balance, but mostly me. :V

Not more Exalted. Heroic/Enlightened mortals. Basically it could turn people into wizards or at least close enough to full wizards that the difference would be mostly in flavor. And it doesn't care about your lineage and similar stuff like normal Dresdenverse magicians only your character as far as I understand.

For example Karin, who is as magical as a rock, can learn to wield Essence if she goes through a Proving Ground.

Well they can reach to around Essence 2 Solar competence in 2ed. As a an "adventurer" group by covering each other weaknesses. That's still a lot.

We can build another gate. We can find more materials... How do we make the option I vote for? I don't see any other easy way. Let's do it!

Yeah, the potential value for producing Splendors can't be overlooked.

Just look at what we've already been able to get recently by trading a TBD Splendor. That favor Nergui owed Odin which we traded for proved immensely valuable for our latest mission.

Money doesn't mean much in the supernatural community. Favors are the preferred currency, of course, but being able to craft genuine artifacts cheaply is almost as good.
