One day, a human being decides you are interesting, and takes you home and puts his mark on you. He makes you run mazes and fetch things for him, even though he could easily do so himself. He is cavalier of the dangers you fear - the snakes and shellrats that used to chase you - but there are other dangers only he knows about, that he will not discuss with you, for you are still a small creature. And then one day, after you have performed satisfactorily at your mazes, he sets you back in the caverns and tells you it is now your job to protect other small creatures from snakes and shellrats. That is what it is to be a Caretaker.

As a consequence, it also collects oddities and those who would not fit into another Court. Mostly, we poke our noses into anything mysterious, discover what we can, put in our reports and then receive equally mysterious answers in reply. Senior Brother Naixin and his explanations are typical."

I think the write-in or the rant work. If anything boss man probably would find either amusing, he hasn't told us to keep quiet about this and we likely know only the bare basics of what the bunch do. Or at the very least they keep the shady stuff under wraps until someone like Zhi can be trusted.
