The Path Unending (A Cultivation Quest)

[X] [DOUYAN] No, you will not interfere. If she turns in a lesser project, it will simply be a learning experience.
[X] [SATAI] Yes, you will attempt to soothe her panic.
[X] [RIOU] Loudly point out something extra has fallen into her jar, and you'd hate to see anyone's work ruined by an unfortunate accident.

[x] [DOUYAN] Ask her how she has calculated the size of the gemstones to fit in the final product. If she catches the hint, all is well, otherwise, it is her own fault.
[X] [SATAI] Yes, you will attempt to soothe her panic.
[X] [RIOU] You will quietly point it out to her and allow her to fix the problem before it really becomes an issue.

[X] [DOUYAN] Save the critique for the end of the challenge, unlike the other two she is performing to her best capabilities.

I'm wondering how Worse Zhao would've profited from the diagrams? Perhaps he would study them for insight? Oooh or maybe the theme would've been spearheads

Potential challenge idea for later on: have the contestants make a charm based off of whatever they make during this challenge.

Essentially, having them create something that's both art, and a charm.

Honestly, for the next stage charm problem-solving that someone already mentioned (the barbarians are invading, how do you outfit the radiant defenders e.g.) sounds the best to me.

Isn't the next stage the final? We should just tell them to make the best charm they can in the two weeks they have, while making use of their rare material being the only prerequisite.

One aspect I like about the last choice is that how one reacts to unexpected factors in their work can show a great deal about them.

Normally I'm all for enriching ourselves, but I would feel bad taking the charms people made on their own. Like that's a step too far. Materials? Sure! Actual charm that took over a week of effort... no thanks.

The Double Down Vote
Alright, people. The vote is closed. Since the next update's going to take me some time to get out, this seems like the perfect opportunity to handle some long standing business. Namely, the business of your gemstone charm, known to most as the Fractal View (name not finalized). So I'm making this post and threadmark to get the ball rolling. The threadmark will be deleted after the vote closes.

You've completed the first and possibly only wave of Craft actions needed to finalize Fractal. At this point, you have two ways you can take this. First, you could start infusing it right away and get on with the business of completing your charm. Or second, you could keep hammering away at it with Craft (Jewelry) actions to double down on it to make the final product more powerful. Ordinarily I would chalk this up as a matter to leave for the weekly plan vote but considering how... vocal people in both camps have been about it, it seems like it would be better to settle it on it's own, where it won't be able to affect other priorities in the plan vote.

So to recap:

Option One: You decide that your crafting work is good enough and you want to get on with actually infusing it. The benefit of this option is self-evident. You get your charm done much faster and can actually use it before long.
Option Two: You decide to double down on your crafting, and you'll keep working until your Craft (Jewelry) successes total to be at least double the build target for Fractal. As a reminder, the build target for Fractal is 62. Right now, you have 66 successes. So you would need 58 more. The benefits of this path is that Fractal would be better made and would function better when you do infuse it.

Please do your best to keep the vote and debate clean and mod-free. I know that people can get excited talking about this, but remember that we're all here to have fun and enjoy the story. There's no need to get toxic, no matter how justified you feel in doing so.

So now, with that out of the way, let's get this show on the road!

Would you prefer to begin infusing the charm immediately or to double down on it's craftsmanship?
[] Faster is better. We want to infuse immediately.
[] The higher the build target, the better. We want to double down.

IMO we should let the competitors keep their charms. I know we probably flipped our collective lids if we'd competed in a contest that consumed tons of actions, inflicted stress, and probably also cost some money, only to have the products nabbed by the judge.

[X] The higher the build target, the better. We want to double down.

This'll be something Zhi uses for a long long time. It's in his own best interest to make sure it's as good as he can reasonably get it.

We've waited far too long on this already, and it's dragging all out other plans behind it. Plus it will provide a notable boost versus the Deer.

I know this will likely prevent us from completing it before the showdown with Phantom Point but I think for such a charm with such narrative weight we need to really perfect it.

I want to get on with making MORE charms. T H E B O X was amazing and the cincher to a powerful narrative arc, but a big part of me does not want to double down on this. Not to mention we have many responsibilities and priorities already and seem to be acquiring more at a steady pace. It's fine work. Finish it and move onward and upward.

Then again, when is the next time we'll be able to work with such a potent material? When is the next time we will be making a tool that will be quite potent in our advancement/improvement? This is a very, very special gemstone, given to us out of love. We must do our best with it.

Will it, though? The new charm is a tool to change ourselves, the kind of thing that we'll need to invest even more actions in to get the most benefit out of. It's not a combat charm like the Box.

While I do see the point of the do it now people, if there is any snag in Wistway's masterwork idea, I'd like to smoothe it over before we use it. DD does that. It'd also hopefully reduce and costs in anam activation and anam needed to be stored in it. I hate that it's going to take so many actions in order to deal with it, but we've committed to it so we must commit to it. that means going ham in the kong way.

The whole reason Vesvius made us vote on A Fractal View was we were dragging our feet. We have proceeded to learn from that lesson by... dragging our feet almost harder. We have spent, on average, one action a week on crafting it since the Deeps. We will, at this rate, finish AFV in about three months in game time. I really hope Fa likes waiting on her charm! And that we don't want to craft anything else. And that we're okay with pushing off Wonder hunting, socials, etc. Six actions is a lot of screentime.

We're also, for those stressing about the Deerfight, giving up the opportunity to *make the most powerful charm we've ever built* before it. I really don't undeerstand the resistance here.

The sooner we finish with AFV, the sooner the next thing will come along. I don't believe this is the last cool mat we'll see. However, the more time we spend tinkering with it, the slower the next cool thing will come.

Seriously, for those voting for DD, it seems like there's no willingness at all to devote the time to it.
