"I don't think she would appreciate the comparison," you reply. "A cat is a far more basic form of familiar and…" You move a hand to your head. "Yes. She's like a witch's cat."
They were often too busy monologues or flinging spells from afar, with exception are the likes of Rin and the Enforcers. Really, Shirou in Abridged!UBW when fight-SLASH-flirt Rin in the school werent entirely wrong on the "mage weak in melee" thing, it just that he just happen to face the wrong person for that.

And leaves half a mouse in each of your workboots as 'i love you' messages in the dead of night. Though in this case that mouse probably is a little more than a mouse.
Its always in character. For anyone. Jesus Christ and Ghandhi would look at each other, each pick up a baseball bat, and reenact a certain scene from near the end of 'Goodfellas' with the boy. He has a very punchable face.
Which is a goddamn tragedy because he had nearly perfect protagonist potential himself if, you know, he didn't allow himself to develop into an absolute shit. He could have been, should have been an absolutely awesome human being. But... nope.
Not by default anyway. But an unsurprisingly large number develop some sort of reactive defense against things or else become very good at acting via proxy. What works against a homunculus or a waldo-tentacle of quicksilver or a Dead Apostle's vorpal murderpenis is likely to work against somebody with a stick.
I'll dream of those settings being involved in the sequel on the slim off chance that anyone here is actually still alive by the end of this. Whether or not Angra Mainyu has turned the world into a WH40k Daemonworld.
Sakura starts having dreams about a field of swords, a contract, a betrayal, and centuries of bloodshed. Also lots of swords. She starts bringing up swords in conversation with disturbing frequency.
Akychually, he only did that because Shinji hurt Taiga, meaning Shirou would do something like that to anyone who threatened her, which is consistent with how he seriously considers killing Rin in UBW if she lets Caster hurt Taiga.
Tohsaka glares at Caster and does not do anything.
[Taiga]'s life will end if she moves.
If Tohsaka's going to move, I'll [kill] Tohsaka before Caster will

I don't think people just choose to be raised by freaking ZOUKEN of all people.
His aura of stagnation was the only thing powerful enough to neutralize Shinji's concentrated sigma energy.
Through the fire and flame, a Wakame stan I remain.

*Third Person*
"I think you'll find I am the most qualified to be party leader," Shinji says, arms stretched to either side as he speaks up from his position at the opposite end of the table.
Shirou looks up from his position on the opposite end, a small screen separating him from the group. He stares at Shinji a moment, then lets out a small, almost silent sigh before he returns to scribbling notes.
"Boy," Caster says slowly, sitting just to the right of Shirou. "I think you'll find that you have the least life experience at this table."
Shinji scoffs, lowering his arms to glare at the witch, but saying nothing further as he plops himself back into his seat. Sakura, sitting just to his left, smiles and pats his shoulder gently.
Shirou clears his throat. "You all enter a tavern, it's a small and humble building, but pleasant. The bartender greets you as you enter, stating his name is-" Shirou then points to the blond woman standing behind him.
"Ar… thur." Berserker supplies.
"Arthur. He asks what brings you to town."
Archer clears his throat. "I inform the bartender we are in search of a magic sword."
"No we aren't," Circe growls. "We're searching for a werepig, remember?"
"You are both wrong. I, Shinji Wrynn seek to reclaim my lost kingdom and fortune. So that I can finally rule this land as it properly should be ruled." Shinji proclaims to the table, grinning at them all in turn.
Illya stares at him for a moment, then looks towards Shirou. "I tell him we're just here to rest, and ask him what's on tap."
"He gives you the price of rooms at one silver, and he's willing to serve you applejuice for a copper piece." Shirou says, smiling at Illya.
Illya's eyes narrow, and she opens her mouth to speak before Rider leans over the table. "We'll take two applejuices."
"I would like to seduce the bartender for information," Assassin says, smiling at Shirou.
Shirou stares at her, his eyes seemingly glazing over. Taiga, just sitting just to Assassin meanwhile, is now glaring at her servant. "R-roll it." Shirou finally says, clearing his throat afterwards.
The sound of dice hitting the table gets the argument currently forming between Shinji and Archer to stop, and Mata Hari smiles. "Forty-seven."
"He informs you that the mayor has been overly taxing the town and they are planning a revolt." Shirou says, scribbling down another note.
"Ar…thur." Berserker helpfully adds.
"I inform him we shall aid the villagers!" Archer says, slamming his hand down onto the table for emphasis.
"We could poison him, he likely doesn't drink the same water the peasants do." Caster posits.
"Poisoning is passe, I want to use baleful polymorph to turn him into a pig." Circe replies, grinning at Caster.
"Why do we not simply turn him into a pig, and then poison him?" Caster asks.
"What if we turn him into a pig, poison him, then right before he dies we butcher him?" Illya asks. Now drinking apple juice both in universe, and at the table, helpfully supplied by Ayako. Shirou's girlfriend having wisely decided not to get involved with the ongoing shenanigans.
"Isn't that… mean?" Sakura says quietly, tilting her head.
"Please, in any case, it's the right of a lord to tax his citizens. If they don't have the means to pay, then they simply aren't working hard enough." Shinji remarks, sneering at his sister. "People need to know when they are ruled."
"I wish to attack Shinji Wrynn, do I get a surprise round?" Rider asks.
"I will as well," Archer says.
"Me too." Mata Hari adds.
"Us as well," Circe and Medea say as one.
"Death… to… tyrants…" Mordred mutters.
"Y-you can't just gang up on me all at once!" Shinji screeches, then looks towards Shirou. "Shirou, this isn't fair!"
Shirou looks up from his notes, then turns his head towards Taiga. The woman nods.
"Everyone, go ahead and roll for initiative," Shirou declares.
Shinji Wrynn did not make it out of the surprise round.

I know right, I'm surprised I can't find a fic where Shinji decided to go 'Fuck magecraft I'm not useless because I don't have it and Sakura doesn't deserve this.'. He won't realistically become a sort of second magus killer using only tech because Zouken would never let him have a mentor even if he found one but he can still train enough and learn to use weapons that he can shoot at enemy masters. After that well a lots of stuff can happen, when Sakura's servant is invoked he can ally with them, mission save Sakura kill Zouken or whatever. Be less of a piece of shit in general. Yes I thought about writing one but I don't trust myself enough.
Yeah that's the bigger problem. Even if he manage to be a good person despite living with Zouken, the old leech would never let him become too independant and would probably 'educate him.' The only reason I could see him let Shinji train to try to free Sakura is for the fun of playing with his food later and while Zouken is evil, he is not Kotomine he likes to see other suffers but it's not the only thing that matters to him.
