[X] [RIDER] Mounted Wraiths

You know what? I just want to fuck with Witch Hunters and the Morrite Priesthood. Tweak their nose a little. Give them a little false hint that there might be something necromantic going on with Lady Magister Weber. The amount of gloating I'll do the first time Mathilde disproves accusations of binding a hex-wraith while knowing perfectly well that she could in fact do so will be glorious.

Wow. Checking the voting options by thread tools can get confusing with no description.
Sorry if it may sound like laziness to explore the thread but is there a difference between "The Dämmerlichtreiter" and "Mathiled on a Shadowsteed"? I know they are technically different entities but one is cosmetic based on the other? And this vote is mostly cosmetics?
Also is the Great Cat Knight a big cat with a "full gear" knight on top of it? Or "just" some kind of big cat?

Mathilde on a Shadowsteed looks like her in real life, 'the Dämmerlichtreiter' is based on those wooden statues they make of her in the Hunters Hills.

It would have a knight on top, you have to do something with the rider which prevents it from being converted to a riderless biped.

As I understand it, "Mathilde on a Shadowsteed" is... well, Mathilde on a Shadowsteed, whilst "The Dämmerlichtreiter" is a recreation of the folk hero/myth based on a crude wooden carving a Stirlandian peasant made to ward off evil.

And yes, the Great Cat Knight is a knight riding a big cat, although it's unclear if that means a horse-sized housecat, or a horse-sized panther.

The Dämmerlichtreiter is based on a figure based on a story based on Mathilde, rather than Mathilde trying to literally give the murder machine her face.

I find it less objectionable than trying to literally give the murder machine her face, but I still think its a... not very funny or charming level of self-aggrandizement.

I really don't want cats or wolves. Memorialising Wolf or Morr with something that can teamkill turns me off, and Wolf is too playful make a murderkiller wolf spell.

We probably should have workshopped this idea around our college branch, WEB-MAT

Also, as much as I prefer other versions of 'knight mounted on killy thing', there is a sort of charm to a big cat- Mathilde's first ever friend, before even Ranald himself, was a cat she named Morr to try to loophole her own Dooming. Summoning a knight riding a big cat (that I at least will imagine being the same color as Morr) to continue protecting her from death- and indeed her Dooming by insuring that she's never truly alone, feels clever and appropriate to me

We could call the spell Morr Cat.

Like, we're adding more cat to any given fight, with a wink at the god of death that a grim grey silent knight might conjure, and throwing off suspicion in a few different directions.

Everyone sees the Morr pun, like five people are going to get the actual joke.

And a ranaldite makes a spell that weaponizes felines in broad daylight and no one will ever get it who doesn't already know.

It's so simple and it's got so many layers.

No, don't invoke a god where it isn't needed, not while doing dubious magic, and not with the other stuff we've done.

[X] [RIDER] Misty Wraith on top of a Demigryph

Not the biggest fan of cats and wolves, but anything is better than attaching our heroic reputation to a cannonball that can slip its leash and teamkill.

Thank you. And shame we cant have a dog wielding a sword with its mouth.

Well I still prefer Convential Knight but reading the votes will support Dämmerlichtreiter over Cat

Sorry if it may sound like laziness to explore the thread but is there a difference between "The Dämmerlichtreiter" and "Mathiled on a Shadowsteed"?

Consider the difference between inflated and deflated Commisar Cain here:

The legend of someone can take on a life of its own and diverge quite a bit from the reality of that person.

Now, in Mathilde's case, it's not nearly as bad as with our poor boy Cain - she doesn't have nearly the level of impostor syndrome. But the legend of the Dämmerlichtreiter is going to diverge a fair amount from the real Mathilde beyond broad strokes.

The Dammerlichtreiter Battle Magic is a fairly minor bit of self-aggrandisement. It relies on the reader knowing all of: the details of a fairly obscure Stirland legend from a decade ago, and that that figure is actually the Spymaster of Stirland and that the Spymaster of Stirland at the time was Mathilde Weber and that they know Grey College Battlemagic.

The overlap of that Euler diagram is less than a dozen people at most, and will get smaller as time goes on and the legend gets ever more obscure.
