Pressburg commands the Danube, on which Budapest also sits. This implies a couple things. First, if we assault Pressburg, we can use the fleet to help take it, and then use the same fleet to help take Budapest. If we do not assault Pressburg, the fleet is essentially out of the fight and we will not have it available to help take Budapest. Second, the Danube is the single best logistical artery in the area, surpassing Austrian railways in throughput and needing less [negligible] labor to make it usable. But only if we command its entire length. The assault on Budapest will be better-supplied, thus more likely to succeed, if we take Pressburg than if we bypass it.

That would actually make sense we didn't already have an opening. We've assaulted locations without the riverine fleet, So I don't get the insistence on it, and I don't see our supply lines getting overstretched either, so the logistical aspect of the Danube isn't as valuable to us as you portrayed. Pressburg is heavily fortified, so we'd just be exhausting ourselves on it before hitting Budapest, and decreasing our chances of succeeding. The Austrians will likely be forced to retreat from Pressberg if we manage to take Budapest, avoiding us needing to throw tens of thousands of men onto that grinder.

i like this plan, but i think we are going to pay dearly for taking budsbest if we even manage to actually take it and will almost definately lose territoy in the polish lands, however with the collapse of austria the war will be basically over

strongly urging people to go for turn the flank - we made an opening, we should use the opening that we made, the update tells us about the opening being there and being exploitable.
 
Ditto. Pannonian Sweep is flatly worse than Turn the Flank. It's just more difficult for no reason.

Hit the weak point instead of the strong.
