When you are picking a fight with three servants at once you need that minor edge. The world's most talented swordsman, in the real world at least, might be able to dance around and disassemble three rubes wielding their blades like crowbars... but if they are distracted and lose track of one of them for even a second their head is forfeit.
On the other hand, an archer might strike and then withdraw after seizing some advantage.
