Ling "give everyone heart demons" Qi. In for a copper, in for a spirit stone!

Gonna have to go with this now that Yrs has updated the phrasing of the option, though. Asking Old Man Jiao about his studies may be the last chance we get for a while to steal bits of his Name. Education is like a heist and Auntie Xin just let us in through the door.

But here the blad, gray skinned Elder sat in a mere black sleeping robe, belted around his waist with a white sash. Somehow, it made him look thin and wasted. He had a long silver pipe in one hand, a faint trail of inky black smoke rising from the bowl.
"Did you do all of that, and really not bother getting dressed, husband?" Xin asked, looking faintly exasperated as she stepped over the threshold of the workshop.

"Pfah, Why bother. I was merely going to tinker with the suspension array today," he said, leaning his head back to look over her shoulder. "Only someone had to drag a stray in."

"Jiao, you have been playing with that array for half a century," Xin said dryly. "And you have never once even ridden in that thing. We don't even own horses."

"And it can still be improved," he sniffed. "I can acquire horses whenever I like."

This man is so effing depressed. Both Cai and Jiao routes would have had us tearing our hair out at the monumental emotional support tasks we set ourself. At least with Cai, the threat of instant vaporization by our fickle superior is usually a county or so away (or something we get to opt in for).

Poor Xin, getting married to someone so explicitly and freshly in burnout/crisis. He has to both want to be better and also believe it's possible, and for a prism? Oof.

[ ] spoke. "I can finally answer your question. Boundaries, that is what I intend to study in my formations."

Not quite certain if this would be the better choice, but I am leaning towards this.

I mean if we want to have Jiao give a rather brutal informative talk over how he got really good at doing the opposite of what Ling Qi is currently doing. That is to say use information to break connections within society in a manner convenient to An's goals, twist bonds until they become a mockery that suits An's ends, and sever them with finality through death all for the sake of his prince.

Besides I'm here for the feels, and there is a lot of narrative potency from Jiao getting a glimpse his past via LQ that he literally cannot remember due to excising the memories from himself. The reason her words would resonates with Jiao is that he is similar to Ling Qi in being the right person at the right place, and the right time willing to act even knowing the path ahead is a hard one.

I feel like this is the most narratively and thematically appropriate given LQ and Jiao's parallels. Also what I think will help Jiao the most getting a reminder of the past.

Another reason to vote for this: so he can notice the meridian all messed up with Huisheng's energies, he can figure out that she's learning from the Arch-Heretic, and she can give him shit about her other teacher. "Yeah, I'm learning from this other old man I know, who is locked in a cave and I think he may also be dead, so what's your excuse for this whole 'my disciple has to live right here' nonsense?"

I love lore and I'd love to hear what Jiao would have to say about both his own field of study and the liminal formations LQ has been tinkering with.
Edit: changed my mind, I'm approval voting.

It sounded to arrogant (yes yes, I know, you have to be a little arrogant to climb for the highest ascension, blah blah. it still grates on me) but it could lead to a really interesting conversation narratively.
I think I'd like both.
