Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

Well, if your every wants are fulfilled, I guess people would not need to do actual work or thought in their daily lives. Friendship and companionship to those that actually matter in your daily life, instead of unified, structured body. A structure more akin to clans, where they are more comfortable to those they actually know, rather than forced to work with strangers.

Aye, I could get this.

I really like this idea as it is often claimed that people are forced to interact with others they hate by society and that humans only really care about those they know, so the idea of clans made up of people you chose is excellent.

Honestly the resistance movement makes it seem more realistic, more alive

It's also the silver lining that so many Novels, RPGs and media used in order to depict a 'catch' to a supposed Eden.

I quite like it myself.
It is also a related flaw, after all you are already living in paradise and your sovereign, for some reason, is letting totally alien beings inside that can destroy and damage it. Aside from feeling alive, if we're in an RPG on the other side, that would be a great plot hook while it's low after all, anything directly involving Molly there, just as it would with Mab in Arctis Tor, is device plotlevel.

Arc 0 Post 29: Night's Reprieve
Night's Reprieve

6th of July 2006 A.D.

Harry gives you the number and you back away, but not to the door, just forty feet or so before flipping open your phone. No sense risking letting him out of your sight in case whoever got Greene was coming back, or worse in case this is a set up.

"Hello, Detective Murphy, this is Molly Carpenter, from... yesterday." Because 'from Arctis Tor' sounded really strange to say even on a phone that was currently buzzing like a swarm of flies from the presence of Chicago's resident wizard.

"Are you in trouble again?" The tone was very much that of a woman who was hopping the answer was 'no'. A pity you could not give her what she wanted.

"Well sort of, I was coming out of Harry's place..." Part of you wonders if she is going to assume things, it is kind of late to be making house calls. In principle you do not care that much if she does, but in practice... Do cops gossip? If one of those assumptions gets back to mom you'll never hear the end of it. "We found one of your colegues, Detective Greene I think unconscious on the street and Harry said to call you for help."

"How did you find him?" she asks, snapping you out of your woolgathering.

"By a car, there was blood, but not a lot of it, he came to for a bit, and said something about Harry setting thugs on him," you answer to the tone without even properly thinking if you should give that away. You do not know what kind of relationship Harry has with her, just that she was good for taking into the Nevernever on a rescue mission. "We were both inside the whole time talking about stuff," you add quickly, establishing a... whatchamacallit... an alibi.

"Just call him an ambulance, ask the driver where they are taking him and then call me back with it so I can be there when he wakes up. Don't follow along and tell Dresden not to either."

You bristle a little at the orders, not just to you, but to Harry as well. Who does she think she is? "Why not?"

"Just do it!" she snaps and the call goes dead.

"She... er... didn't seem very pleased to be called," you half-shout back at Harry.

His only answer is a sort of affirmative grunt, as though Officer Murphy being rude was normal. "Why didn't you go inside?" he asks you instead as he finishes wrapping up the worse of Greene's wounds.

"In case someone tried to attack you, or... or frame you," you reply in a hushed voice coming close.

"I can handle myself against most things and as for framing not unless whoever did this could hide the police in their literal pockets," he answers. At your look in askance he explains. "If you are right and they attacked Greene when you arrived using the commotion of Mouse's barking to cover the scuffle then they would have no way to know when to set up the scene. You could have been in there for twenty minutes, two hours or four. No matter how good they might be at pulling strings keeping officers around this neighborhood loitering's not easy. They have places be and things to do..."

Once you had made the call, because Harry still cannot get near your phone and you are not going to leave him out here alone no matter how much sense he makes, you snap it close and more to yourself than to him you say. "Things to pretend to do you mean?"

"The Chicago PD do what they can with what they've got," Harry replies looking down the street.

"Really? How are they with keeping heroine off the street? How about dealing with the real monsters out there, the ones with a human face and without?" You shake your head, thoroughly unconvinced. "Yeah, yeah, they don't know, but why don't they know? The White Council sure isn't doing memory spells like in Harry Potter, so what gives? People vanish right, because a vampire drank their blood, because a fetch thought they screamed good and how many of the cops do anything about it? A couple? Half a dozen?"

"Most people don't want to know," comes the far from reassuring reply. "Humanity's not on top of the food chain and if most people knew, I mean really knew down to their bones, they would panic and lash out. I've seen it you know, what happens when you corner someone with the truth..." he trails off darkly. "It ain't pretty. and the mortal authorities, the FBI the military they have a lot of guns. In some ways bringing them in is thought of as kind of the nuclear option."

"So you don't think it was someone from... down that street that did this," you motion at the still thankfully unconscious man next to the dented car.

"Oh they might have if it was deniable enough, hard to get more deniable than a concussion."

The sound of the approaching ambulance cuts you off. By the mingled lights red and blue you weave about yourself the guise of innocence. It is not a veil as you had crafted before the power had come upon you, no light do you bend, no sound do you muffle, but by manner and word craft a lie a thousand ways told: 'I am just a scared girl who has never seen so much blood. Please will be be alright? Where are you taking him?'

Lost 1 Essence

By the time the ambulance had pulled away and the return call had been made you return to Harry with a satisfied smile, an earned one if you do say so yourself. "Of course it is earned Gracious Whisperer in Shadow," Usum assures you.

For his part Harry kind of looks at you funny for a bit before asking you if you need a ride home.

"No offense, but a ride home from you is the last thing I will need when I have to face mom," you reply with a smile to take the sting out of it.

Speaking of mom... The drive back along the darkened streets framed by the racing yellow lights of the streetlamps feels almost too short for the question you are asking yourself. You just found out where the otherworldly as hiding in the city. You are not going to use that just to better hide from it, but should you just tell mom that outright or take a more subtle approach?

[] Tell your mother you want to be part of the clued in community of Chicago, given how blatantly magical you are it is the best and likely the safest way (Charisma+Empathy roll)
-[] Write in stunt (Optional)

[] Don't say anything, you can just go out. It's not like she watches you every hour of every day

[] Write in

OOC: You do not know in character, but just like in canon Murphy just got demoted and was almost fired over the two missing days in the Nevernever.

Supernaturally charming the people on the ambulance. You could have probably gotten them to give you their firstborn
>13 Successes.

Yep, we're playing Exalted alright.

Right, since it is now 3 A.M. And tomorrow I need to wake up early to prepare for an exam, I think I might pause my writing here. I'll continue it tomorrow.

In the meantime, have a prelude of things to come:

"Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them. They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither* shall the sun light on them, nor any heat. For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes." —Revelation 7:15-17

It's going to be difficult and ultimately pointless to hide this stuff from Charity, so there is little reason to start now, unless we want to delay the inevitable for a day or three.

I mean you could try to delay it until Michael comes back if you think that will help.

Fingers crossed Excalibur doesn't have a bad reaction to being in the presence of an Infernal Exalt.
Fingers crossed that Micheal has the Ebony Blade hidden up in the attic for whatever reason.

No Paradise with humans in it could be truly perfect, because its inhabitants are still intrinsically human.

However, one can not reach true greatness by bowing their head to others.

Fingers crossed Excalibur doesn't have a bad reaction to being in the presence of an Infernal Exalt.
I think its probably going to. Though who knows? Amoracchius is the sword of love, and were his loved ones.

Though I also remember a vampire combusted upon touching him. So I wonder... naw thats too edgy.

One thing you guys might want to consider is how do get money in the short run, that is while still in high school and living with your parents. Books on magic do not come cheap if you want to go that way.

Quick money is easy but may be risky, just turn out some wood work, dresses, etc with Craft, and sell them with expression for a 1k-5k a pop easy we could get 5+ success easy in both. But this is Dresden, and that could have a link back to us, which is why I am hesitant to use it.

Honestly it's not so bad for something like this and with good reviews and word of mouth builds up credibility.
It's problematic if we try making millions on the stock market or something

So. I have completed the sort of options this Hell will have. I'll write the fluff text now, tell me what you guys think?

[] Hell: The Hell of Lost Paradise V 1.0
-[] Size: Vast (-3) The Demon-Realm is the size of an entire realm of existence with its own biosphere, diverse regions, seasons, and so on. Come all, come all. We have rooms to spare.
-[] Geography: Pockets of Safety (+2) The outer Hell-Realm consists of seas of magma, sharp and jutting ravines, hails of blizzards, and many other features that are most deleterious to one's body. Yet therein lies an inner Hell-Realm, here all succour may be given and all worries are forgotten. A slice of heaven shunning the outside world that will only bring calamity and distraught.
-[] Climate: Heavenly (-2) The ecosystem enhances life and gives pleasure to those dwelt within.
-[] Population: Balanced Ecosystem (0) This realm never wants for anything, for it never lacks for anything a mind could conjure. Fresh air aplenty, streams that taste like milk and honey and resources that never seem to be surfeit, Earthly Fauna (0) The Hell of Lost Paradise bears the population of beasts that the world is so common with, Earthly Flora (0) Fields of beautiful roses, lush vegetations untouched by pollution and fruits that are pleasing to the eyes and tongue. Truly, one of this realm's greatest wonders, Human Populace (0) There are people here who have tasted the bounty of the Land of Comfort Eternal and they are content, will you join them?
-[] Social Structures: Advanced (0) The people within are cultured and bright. They discuss philosophy, they uphold righteousness and sanctity of action, and there is no malice amongst its populace. Peace and understanding are always given to those that seek it.
-[] Technology: Modern (-1) Everything that you will ever need, right at the tips of your fingers.
-[] Loyalty: Loyal (-1) The people here are grateful to be taken away from all harm and other malaise. Their life sedate and their every wants are meted out. How could they not want to repay you?
-[] Features: None.
Ah I see you're using the revised edition, I built Sheol with the original WoD v Exalted companion book!

That'd change my math a bit! I had to pay for some of the stuff you'd get free in the revised book.. now that I'm finally free to spend a little time on this let's see…

[] Sheol, The City Behind Every Shadow
-[] Size: Average (0)
-[] Geography: Mundane (0)
-[] Climate: Harsh Climate (+1)
-[] Population: Overpopulated (+1), Earthly Flora and Fauna (0), Human Pop (0)
-[] Social Structures: Modern (0)
-[] Technology: Modern (-1)
-[] Loyalty: Loyal (-1)
-[] Features: Dangerously Alien (0), Non-Euclidean (-1), Exclusive Transportation (-1), Eternal Night (-1), Grand Grimoire (-1), Lord Of The Land (-1)

Now we're both using the same rules, here's Sheol. You've heard the big pitch and lore-style post, Hell made by Molly's Unconscious Idea what her personal Hell would be, only to find a that Hell is sort of just…a place where she's in charge, and it's not all bad, actually! Overcrowded, sure, but most Big Cities are, and it's part of the charm.

It is a strange Alien Place, but ultimately it is Molly's Strange Alien Place. It could be better, but it certainly isn't horrible.

There's a few perks even, at least for her. It might constantly be a dark and stormy night that makes going outside an annoyance for some, but the ink-like rain never touches Her, at The Demon Empresses whim, the night never ends, but She was always more of a Night Owl anyhow, the Layout doesn't make sense, but The Unblinking Eye guides her anywhere she needs.

Including the Crown Jewel, The Midnight Tower, a Grand Skyscraper which sits at the exact Center of the City and is Always Visible In The Distance No Matter Where You Look. It is one part Lair, One Part Mayoral Mansion, one part Vast Occult Library and Laboratory, whose contents holds every scrap of knowledge the Night City can steal away from Creation's Past.

Make no mistake, Sheol as I intend is made not to actually torment Molly, but made to reflect a place she thinks would torment her and people like her, only to give her power and control over it, safety from its worst effects and the loyalty of its Citizens, can she earn what she has been given? Of course, she is The Demon Empress In Repose! This Place of Darkness Belongs To Her.

You think we have a secret identity? What is this worm?
I think he might mean a metaphysical link back to us rather than anything related to our identity. Thaumaturgy in DF is all about forming sympathetic links between people and items (pictures, hair, blood, etc), often in order to target them with a spell effect from super long-range. Something we've crafted using our power would almost certainly qualify as a valid targeting focus to throw serious mojo at us.

There are charms that we can get to stop this I can't remember what they were though. I think one of them allowed us to smite whoever was doing it or something.

Handy, but selling something or even washing it in a machine. Especially if we don't wear it should be helpful.

Also we have occult 5. We can probably do something about that.

Sheol is a neat concept, but I don't think it works.

The Infernal shapes her heart, soul, and Essence
into the shape of a realm of her devising, featuring what-
ever oddities of geography or natural law suit her nature.

This is like a reality marble, not her concept of what hell is, and should we take it as a signature effect it will influence the world within a 1500-2500 yard(.85 to 1.42 miles or 1.37 to 2.286 km) radius if we activate Shintai.

I'd consider tying it to Molly's Intimacies(She cares about her family in spite of her issues with Charity, you can translate that into an urge to be somewhat helpful to her creation maybe), her urge(Knowing things), and Without Honor Without Hope(Having this charm makes Winter/Arctic hell arguably within Molly's thematics). Also maybe Anime and Gothic Architecture like this post.

Just keep in mind the urge is not the core of your character, it is the way in which the power of the exaltation has manifested for you, it is a tool, an influence, it is not Molly Carpenter. Not trying to single out this post in particular, just as a general note since I am not using Nature as I feel in a quest it would make for a flat character, but there is a whole of a lot more to Molly then just the way she regains essence or what her crown does. She is mildly into anime, has a budding interest in Gothic architecture, she is sad her oldest brother is growing distant and is worried about her father low key but constantly since she knows he is a man fighting hell-powered freaks, but then she feels guilty for her lack of faith etc...

Without Honor Without Hope
The chill of the Night Realm forever abides within the Infernal's heart, leaving her inured to all lesser chills and discomforts. Indeed, they become a source of strength to her.
System: The Infernal is completely immune to environmental hazards based on freezing cold, from arctic nights to raging hailstorms. When she has to soak direct attacks based on ice or supernatural cold, she lowers the difficulty of her soak roll by two. Finally, the Infernal adds two dice to all rolls while subjected to cold-based environmental hazards from which she is protected by this Charm
