[X] Soil Studies (+10 bonus development rolls in fief)

Choosing this on the account that we might not be able to get this -- or at least not this "easy". Even if Xia Lusheng said it's just a small study... There's probably some wild shit being done there.

He considers it worth about 200 green stones. We might have to spend an equitable amount (or more) to get similar. If it even becomes an option later.

So, how likely do we think is it that Sun Shao is in contact with the people who wanted to attack baby Cai while Mamma Cai was away?

Sun Shao wouldn't move just to give the opening for a shot at a Baby but it is a curios coincidence. That he wants to meet in person.

Probably going to find out soon anyway, if someone takes a shot at the sect he is probably not involved. It's to risky.
When shit hits the fan like that … Someone accidently slipping and losing a knife in Liling is probably not impossible.

We're gonna be on a pretty barren wasteland of a fief, and while Precious helps a lot with that, it can't hurt to stack even more advantages on top of Precious. It's important we at least become self-sufficient foodwise as soon as possible if we're going to grow the fief.
Sorry, maybe I've missed something, but where has this been stated? I can see that we might be put out in the direction of the White Sky, but I would expect that Shenhua would do her best to ensure we had the absolute best area of land that might be available in the area.

We're the direct vassal of the Cai heiress. So long as we're performing to her expectations, ensuring we get good lands is an inherent part of the contract. Having people see that the direct servants of your heir are well rewarded is very important for the credibility and long term stability of the Cai dynasty.

You know what... I find myself wondering at the actual politics of "King Sun Shao of the Western Territories"...

I've seen three names for the Sun's holdings, "The Western Province" "The Western Territories" and "The Red Jungle"... but "The Red Jungle" is the pre conquest name and of the other two "The Western Territories" is more common... a "territory" is not a "province"...

Further, while the Bai apparently have pretty strong control of their borders(see, turning aside Emerald Seas Refugees during the invasion), it seems odd to me that they can say "no trade for you" and just completely shut off economic passage between what are ostensibly parts of the Empire. Especially while stated to be the weakest they've ever been. Additionally, here's another question... did Ancient China ever actually go to the aid of any of the "vassal kingdoms" that sent them tribute?

I find myself wondering if calling Sun Shao "King" instead of "Duke" wasn't as much a snub as a promotion, or at least a holding at arms length.

I have been talked around to soil studies instead of reagents, but I'm still desperately curious about what Isolation and Endings insights from a non-ice spirit source would be like.

It's mostly a matter of terrain. We're settling in a hilly/mountainous region and to the south, where it's colder. It's not ideal farmland in general. I think "wasteland" might be an exaggeration, but it's a genuine disadvantage to where we'll be setting up, compared to other places in the province.

We could luck out with finding a verdant valley tucked away between peaks, but that's not guaranteed and I'd expect a location like that to be occupied by a Cyan spirit, or even be a site of interest to cloud nomad tribes in the region. Not things we're necessarily ready to challenge as we are. That's more something I see us expanding to later, when we're more powerful and our holdings are more mature. When we first start out, we should expect to have relatively marginal farmland.
