Huo Zhoung is not a great parent.
Because he lacks the temperament and the skills for it.
This does not make him a bad person, potentially a bad parent in the same way that i would make a bad car mechanic (i can do some basic maintenance, but if there's anything really broken i so very much am not your go to person).
There is more to parenting than loving your children or trying your best to support them.
Parenting is a skill, and it comes easier to some than others, and some people will never learn it, and i suspect Huo Zhoung, thanks to his cultivation, is simply in that last category.
And, in a way, he has made the best possible decision available to him.
He has decided to find someone else who can learn those skills, who can be the parental figure Meizhen wants and needs, and support her from the shadows to best of his ability.
Which makes him actually a pretty decent parent, while being a bad "parent".
I may lack the terminology to explain myself properly.
Given his seeming resentment of his Way, I wonder if the Moon would be able to help him heal some of the damage that's been done to him.
He will never be the person that Meizhen needs him to be but maybe he could eventually find something to live for.

I think this infomation will be the most useful for setting up trade routes because the Bai will be joing in on it in some measure (they have sent Bai Meizhen) and thus the trade route will pass through Meng lands - which are further away from us and thus harder to influence. In addition they will probably be most useful for helping with our dream based cultivation if we know who to speak to.

aaaawww. our lil Jun is all grown up and wraith wrecking chumps just like we showed her.
Wang is most important faction to establishing our barony. And the old road and mtn hall quests seem important to our turn 18 - 26 endeavors re: homesteading or peacemaking and warmaking on the wall. But i dun feel like Wangs require extra secret squirrel action.
I woulda went Diao but its unknown if garden of sinners quest is related to our own priorities. And no chance for Diao reputation increase. Only stabalization.
Meng are isolationist, so less info about them available in general. Labrynth lords seems to refer to the shishigui so succeeding in that quest could be vital to war efforts. Plus that bandit raid with the dead guards... Meng lands. Maybe see who pulled the strings. Also that quest made me think of the horned lord whose dream avatar apparently has his eye on us. Plus we want their music archive.

I'm torn though. On one hand, our padawan better not shame Ling style by losing the first round. On the other, so sad to split the twins. Yrs really will have to give Lei a puppy if Jun leaves her alone in outter sect.

People have made good points about the other 2 options. However we have no info about the Diao whatsoever. What is their actual problem with us and whats Diao Linqin's true issue with Renxiang? The other two clans we have already started building relationships with and have some knowledge on. On the Diao, we've got nothing. People are saying that we don't need the info ATM but 1) I think its good policy in general to get info on adversaries sooner rather than later and 2) since people are pretty convinced we're never gonna be friends with them (and I agree), its even more important to have info on long term adversaries.
EDIT: we're also not gonna have many chances like this in the future. To get a dossier on a clan handed to you by a high realm spy Master? Its all the more reason to use it on the Diao. Our built up relationships with the other 2 clans means we will have other opportunities for greater success in interactions. Not so with the Diao.

The reason i am voting Diao is because we have so little to work with when it comes to them.
Wang and Meng both have obvious levers to pull, border/barbarians with Wang, and Old ways and Moon cults with Meng.
Meng have already climbed from -2 to 0 with very little effort from Ling Qi being Ling Qi and doing Ling Qi things, i have no doubt that we can, if we want to, make those numbers climb even higher with some actual effort.
And as long we help the Wang with border security and don't screw up, they are unlikely to get upset with us, they want allies and more willing ears at the court, and we can help them with that.
Diao? I have no idea what Diao might want from us, or how we could avoi offending them without screwing us over with other factions.

It's really hard to argue or the Diao because the last time we had any info about them that wasnt their matriarch looking menacing or making mean comments was back in forge when CRX taught LQ the basics of each count clan in the ES.
We have so little info about them that making a convincing argument is almost impossible.

The roll bonus is most useful for the Meng, but the narrative insight into "what the criminey crikey are these people's deal" is most useful for the Diao. And I believe in Ling Qi's luck (helped along by omake bonuses, of course).
