I like getting all the expidition papers done, but I dont want to do the search colleges action until we bring in the jades or the ambers, so:

The post I was replying posited that the elves would see 600 as faux affluence by their standards. I replied by saying if that is the case then 300 would be by those same standards a hole in the ground.
And I was arguing that the 600 gold is not guaranteed to impress the elves, and was thus offering an alternative result. If we have a known result for 600 gold I would be a lot more open to spending it. We don't know what it will accomplish. We know that 300 is nice so it is not a hole in the ground. We also know that elvish accommodations can be an endless sinkhole. The only reason to spend 600 as I see is to attempt to impress the elves (this is better served I believe in maxing out the research facilities) - but we don't know what level will be needed: 600, 900 or 6000. If we fail we might appear as faux-rich spending on expensive but meaningless items (elvish equivalent of tacky jewelry etc.)
This is of course speculation and rather negative speculation, but the excess gold spending options is also speculation on the positive side of it.

The standards being used are Mathilde's it is as you said the elves. Also I fully intend to spend money to max out research facilities.

As you rightly point out we do not know what the scale is so it is entirely possible that 300 comes off as tacky and 600 just enough. There is I think no reason to assume that less money is ever better than more when it comes to impressing elves, even if we do not hit the target we will at least get closer. They are not going to respect frugality

Lastly money, money is only worth as much as we can buy with it so in that sense having those 300 extra gold sit in our treasury is not going to help anything unless you think we will need them to urgently buy something else (keeping in mind that we constantly get more gold from the EiC).

Is it likely that studying a possible Old One artifact will give us insight applicable to something built off the Old One geomantic web? Probably not. Is it a remote possibility? Maybe. Will it be interesting to study with Egrimm? I believe it will.

Not necessarily. They could see attempts to ape wealth as tacky and a lower-cost but less strained design as better. I doubt it'll happen, but it's not impossible.

Your plan has room for one more WEB-MAT action—we get an extra one for every 2 AP we spend there.

...can you clarify for me what exactly you're expecting to use windherding for with respect to Waystones? I'm getting the impression we may have fundamentally different understandings of what goals can reasonably be achieved by this project.
Unclogging waystones. You can't unclog a waystone that's producing dhar if you have no understanding of how it works when it's not doing so.

And without either high magic or windherding, you can't know how to keep the winds flowing together yet separate which is (as far as we know) a fundamental requirement for not making Dhar and clogging.

I mean optimistically we might be able to repair outright damaged waystones, or make new waystones that fit into the existing network of leylines - but unclogging them is the requirement for this project to have any purpose whatsoever. If we don't at least manage unclogging we achieve nothing in regards to waystones.

Well, that or convert them into Runic magic.

Actually, @BoneyM, when Mathilde was following the trail of magic that was flowing to Vlag, was that trail separate Winds or something else?
