Hm...yeah.

Still undecided on library name but I do think I'll be adding Head Librarian to my vote. Organizational actions yield on-par returns if we get a useful action out of them every other turn on average, so anything on top of that - which I do think this'll provide - is just pure efficiency gain. & I like tying Mathilde more into the world through direct links to various organizations, rather than having her be just operating solo, especially considering the increased independence LMs get.

Another cool thing with librarian is keeping official ties with K8P after our tenure as Loremaster is over. We'll still represent Belegar's autority albeit in a narrower role.

We would be K8P's Head Librarian, Branch Head of the Imperial Colleges and Head of the Eonir Waystones Project... totally undivided loyalties.

The library was never really my project, but I'm a sucker for a punny acronym.

But Esoteric is pretty accurate description of the objects of our research? "Rare, special, unusual" is one definition and the artifacts we collect and AV are certainly this. "Requiring or exhibiting knowledge that is restricted to a small group" - that is true for all magic (wizards are already a small group), but doubly true for things like Windherder. Intersectional is a true description as well, but it doesn't make Esoteric untrue.

Honestly the need for accuracy in naming seems overblown, I mean think about it, how many branches are there? Is it really going to confuse anyone that the name is not accurate? Just call it 'that place with the dwarfs', that is what it is going to be informally named whatever we call it, simply because it is so uncommon for dwarfs to even let any outsiders in their mountain holds much less wizards.

Sure but I think 'Intersectional' is more accurate. But WEBIR also just keeps tripping me up and thats annoying so I'll just hope for WEIRD to win and stop considering this.

More a matter of my sensibilities than what its gonna mean in world.

It's not outright false, but it isn't descriptive either.

'Esoteric' could mean damn near anything, it tells you nothing about what the branch is for.

But it leaves our options open.

Mathilde is a woman ofwith varied interests, with a correspondingly large backlog.

Therefore, with a branch dedicated to the Esoteric in general, she can put her backlog there.

"Why are we studying this thing?"
"It's esoteric."
"It's smut. In queekish."
"Exactly. Esoteric!"

I would not call intersectional all that descriptive either.
The first thing that comes to mind from the word is sociological studies general, and racism/feminism in particular, not different magical traditions working together.
Interdisciplinary would work better i think.
But which ever of the words is used, we know what it means, and anyone coming to join the brach college is going to know what they do.
The name does not need to be clear descriptive label, because that would put the worst light novel names to shame with its length.

Definitely not. We already decided on the charter and we can't feasibly change it. The charter makes it specifically a branch for cooperative research between separate groups- AKA intersectional.

I'll go ahead and throw a vote in for WEIRD, 'cause I actually prefer it even if its much too far behind.

I was convinced to change to librarian. Worst comes we can theoretically pass this to someone else later on

I don't mind WEIRD, but I do think that whatever name we go for should be relatively accurate and descriptive, and "esoteric" is far too generic for my tastes.

"Intersectional" currently mostly relates to social studies, but it can mean anything that intersects multiple categories, and the social sciences meaning wouldn't really be prevalent to cause confusion in-universe.

That said, I don't mind "interdepartmental" either for WEBIR - though it doesn't really work for WEIRD, since "interdepartmental department" is incredibly awkward.

I'll throw my support behind WEIRD as a compromise candidate. WEBIR's misspelling of Mathilde's surname will bug me forever if it wins.

If the branch and charter become more widespread knowledge, is there any chance for some radical priest or priest of a less prideful deity to suddenly come around and want to join us?

I could see it happen. On the one hand cooperation between a priest and a wizard doesn't necessarily imply that their powers are in any way similar. On the other hand especially priests with powers from smaller gods or loyal to lesser non-Imperial polities (like struggling Tilean city states) might be willing to bring divine magic to the table in exchange for getting to keep the resulting magical item or some other valuable service.

@BoneyM We recently (in game time) took a tour of the eight Karags. What are the religious demographics like in Karag Nar? Any full temples (not shrines) other than Ranald's?

What about "interdisciplinary department"?
