Well yes. That is the point. What kind of lazy Lord Magister are you if you don't have at least two Province spaning orgs in your orgs charts? Are you even trying to gather influence, leverage, power and reach?

On a completely different subject, you know what makes sense as a character point? That more and more, Mat isn't sure some enemy will get her, but she keeps using Ulgu and it might. There is a Mark of Ulgu that makes it so everyone forgets you. So some part of Mathilde Weber keeps putting her name on everything hoping that if she is so cursed, at least her name will only be lost to her, not to everyone. She'll have left some mark on the world that could be remembered.

There is. No matter how AP rules will get reshuffled, head librarian will use up more screen time, which BoneyM will balance with some kind of finite resource. So people who want to minimize that and see that hands-off has no chance of winning should take the compromise if they are the type to compromise. In fact there is a good chance that high policy is a finite investment, since at some point this Dwarven institution's policy will be set. And even if they contact us later on for special occasions where a new niche policy decision comes up, that will only happen when BoneyM has a good hook for it.

Head Librarian will mean that we end up running two organizations alongside our main project. And some of us don't want to give up the EIC, so that isn't sure to go away either.

Sure it will take up screen time, just like say the duckling time. Now ask yourself has there ever been a case where you thought 'man I wished I did not have the skills of these diverse mages and instead had two weeks of personal work'? The library is not just a thing in itself that hoovers up AP it is a tool and a very good one for many of our projects.

And it would be good for the library too. It is not like wizards with heroic learning and contacts to match grow on trees.
This, honestly, is a great point. Belegar can hire a competent librarian, sure - but it's not arrogant to say that Mathilde actually legitimately is qualified to do a fantastic job at this, and if you want to particularly focus on the "for all peoples" aspect, she might legitimately be the best choice Belegar has access to period.
Good points. Went back and switched from high level to head librarian. Also thought on it some more and realized I like the idea of setting the culture and ethics of the library the way we did to the EIC before handing it off. Whether we hand off the library or not remains to be seen, but yeah, I can dig it.

Eeeh, not that interested in the library but I would like us to have some influence.

[X] (LIBRARY NAME) The Library of Karak-Eight-Peaks / Kron-Azril-Ungol / The Archive of the Silvery Depths
[X] (LIBRARY NAME) World's Memory / Karaz Kron

[X] (BRANCH NAME) World's Edge Branch for the Multidisciplinary Advancement of Thaumaturgy

Don't particularly like trying to name the college WEBER in increasingly convoluted ways. "Esoteric Research" is alright I guess, but I'd rather name the college for its purpose. The acronym isn't really something I care about.

Eh, I'm not particularly invested either way, but Redshirt made a good sell. Mathilde can probably get access to a lot of books other people wouldn't, and I like the idea of this being her baby.

Clear winners for me on the two names. "Intersectional Research" may slightly mess with the acronym, but uh, it actually describes what the entire Branch is about, which is a very good feature in a name.

Don't really have a strong preference on Library right now.

One drawback to [] High-level policy is that we'll have to find and choose a different Head Librarian. Whereas if [] Head Librarian wins, we've already found an interested and qualified Mathilde.

I just reread The Karag Dum Expedition, Part 28: The Golinyi and while it is of course dominated by Deathfang's tale, I was quite impressed on how well the rest would work as an introduction to Mathilde's impact on the setting to some Warhammer fan that isn't overly worried about spoilers. It off hand mentions the death or disappearance of Gotrek, talks about tales of visiting Kurgan and more to the north, brings up the recent return of Karak Vlag multiple times, alludes to crazy stuff in Sylvania and to the reconquest of K8P at which the main character resides, name drops "Magister van Horstmann" as just some guy along for the ride, opens up new mysteries that the main character doesn't know about regarding Beastmen and nature gods and then finally tops it all off with deep lore from an ancient Dragon. I now feel this urge to go to some Warhammer fan community and go all "Look at this! Isn't it neat?" (with spoiler warnings of course).

The great machines begin to fail
and we begin to turn the transformed energies
All other instances say "began" in the past tense, so I think this is a typo.

Of course all three options have merit. I explained why the middle vote is functional as compromise vote and has value beyond being just a half-assed version of head librarian.
That said, "skills of diverse mages" is what the Branch College gives us. We don't need to be head librarian for any of that. In fact I have a hard time envisioning what direct advantage head librarian gives to either Mathilde personally or to her ability to pursue the Waystone Project. Except maybe an easier time to hoover up books that we can't find in Laurelorn's library because the K8P book hunters will follow our priorities on each individual book hunt. But that alone doesn't entice me towards that title and responsibility.
Also thought on it some more and realized I like the idea of setting the culture and ethics of the library the way we did to the EIC before handing it off.
I get that you say "also" and so you might already be aware of this and not care, but that specific part would be covered by high-level policy as well.

And the first few decades are the most important time - the decisions made now will set the institutions course for centuries to come. If we want to truly promote inclusivity? Now's our chance. Do we want to arrange for a meaningful magic section? Now's our chance. Do we want to buy exotic romance books from Cathay? Now's our chance.

I know that last bit was a joke, but Mathilde has an opportunity to emphasize the importance of preserving works of fiction like plays, poetry, satires, and yes... romance books, in addition to straight up books of facts. That's pretty cool.

Updating my vote to include names. Folks... you have to be subtle about these things. WEBIR is just as funny, slightly more deniable, and more accurate than "esoteric".

As for the library, I slightly prefer giving it a name that encourages thinking of it as a separate institution from K8P. Wouldn't cry if the other name wins though.

Did all of those ever end up getting shared? Beyond the list of Lhamian conspirators of course. I can't remember.
Believe he had planned on rebuilding Vanheldenschosse and making it the capital of Sylvania. I remember that bit.

That and trying to make it so his kids wouldn't have to take up the family trade.

Yep, here's the rundown from the last time Boney was asked this:
Out of curiosity, @BoneyM, you mentioned a while ago that you didn't want to share some of your future plans for Abelhelm while the balls were still in the air. If it's neither a spoiler nor too much trouble, what did you plan to do with him?
His dream was to rebuild Vanheldenschlosse as a new capital of Sylvania and inch by brutal inch reclaim Sylvania for humanity and the Empire. The dream of dreams was to be the precise opposite of Frederick Van Hal to the extent that Sylvania would be made a new province and have one of the currently unclaimed Runefangs assigned to it. With the Van Hal story concluded, his children would be free to choose their own course in life, rather than sacrificing themselves against their ancestor's legacy.
Alas.

So, I can see why people like The Library of Karak-Eight-Peaks / Kron-Azril-Ungol / The Archive of the Silvery Depths

But I just don't think it has the same impact of World's Memory / Karaz Kron.

like think about it like this: the group of dashing adventurers have stumbled in their quest!

Without any way or clue on how to move forward. Will this be the end!

BUT THEN, the Grizzled Ranger/wise wizard/reluctant witch hunter of the group takes a deep breath, 'there is nothing for it, we will have to travel south. There is only one place in the world that might have the answer we need...Karaz Kron.

see, has a dramatic hit when said/written. A ba-a-dum so so speak.
