The race will become stable if you and others feeling like you pick one over the other now. Else if one starts to win even mildly, you'll simply be influenced by that.Hmm. Bodyguard and Waystone are in the lead. I think I prefer Bodyguard, but I'll vote later when the race has become stable.
Belegar is Probably in Deep Debt
Now, I've been saying that Belegar is rich for a while, and that's true - in the Gold Economy. But in the Favour economy he's really not - he has been spending favour like water, and what means has he had to earn that favour back?
Yes, he'll have gotten some favour from folks moving back into their ancestral homes, but an awful lot of those were part of the expedition to begin with so that's not going to be as much as he needs.
Karak Azul is likely paying off a significant chunk of it - their reconnection is huge - but is that going to be enough?
Sure, if Thorgrim came clean about the Waystones it'd probably all be paid, but that's not going to happen.
Sending Mathilde around as LaL is a way of repaying some of that favour debt, allowing him to strike out some of the Dalaz Kron.
The Loremaster plot hooks are also generally going to stick around. (EDIT: Well, half of them at least, the others are on unknown timescales)Hnnng I can already tell I'm going to be salty when Waystone Project wins. Smh why can't people can't put it off for 10 turns to follow such interesting time-sensitive plot hooks before doing it? It'll still be there.
Belegar specifically made a whole thing about how it's against a dwarf's honour not to repay their debts. Sure, no-one's going to be hounding him; other than his own need to prove that his Dalaz Kron promise is serious, show that he truly believes in his words, and remove the weight of unpaid debts from his neck:Not sure if I agree with Belegar being in big favour debt.
Sure he owes a lot of favours. He's also the one utterly unassailable Dawi king in terms of political and social credit. Belegar did stuff his way and he won.
At the end of the day, no matter how much he moans about Thorgrim stealing Waystone juice or next door greenskins throwing a ruckus Belegar did what no other deposed Dawi king could - he got his Hold (and Karaz Ankor's groove) back.
Other Dawi are going to be quite leery of overtaxing K8P because Belegar is a cultural hero who is scratching the uniquely Dawi itch of reclaiming lost property and solving plenty of Grudges whilst he's at it. Now sure Dawi don't work for free so they're going to want their favours back sometime in the next millennia but the 'terms' are likely to be quite lenient for only the most mean spirited, unworthy and shaggy bearded Dwarf would try to milk the Vala-Azril-Ungol unduly.
"I have been reminded a great many times of the importance of Grudges, but I fear the Karaz Ankor has forgotten their counterpart. So many die to strike out ancient wrongs in the Dammaz Kron, but how many concern themselves with what other scores remain unsettled? Where is the Dalaz Kron, to be a weight around our necks when the acts of honour and courage of our oldest allies are not repaid? Let the message go forth for all to hear: just as the Dwarves will spill a lake of blood to avenge the past, so too will we move mountains to repay it. And today, using gromril wrest from the claws of our foes, Clan Angrund and Karak Eight Peaks repays those that fought and bled and died alongside us to recover our home."
If you don't want Waystones either, it may be prudent to also add a fifth vote for Bodyguard so that it ends up as Loremaster or Bodyguard that wins. Because I will not mind doing literally anything except Waystones.[X] Loremaster-at-Large of Karak Eight Peaks

[X] Count of Sylvania

Belegar is also owed, a lot, by Kara Ankor as a whole, and while only Thorgrim knows of it, he will be wanting to pay back in some subtle ways for this. Not sure if I agree with Belegar being in big favour debt.
