"mostly sure is a good way to get killed"

Wise words from Mathilde. Yeah, we don't sense any sort of corruptive field, but I'd feel a lot more confident in doing some magical infiltrating if we saw some dolgan shamans casting and not have some fuckery immediately descend upon them.

Luckily, we're in a prime spot to observe any attacks the other tribes may make, and we'll be able to gather data on a bunch of other potential fuckery that way too. We've got the supplies to wait a day, and ambient dhar is at "eastern stirland on a windy day" levels as long as we maintain our precautions, so I'm willing to encamp for a bit.

Strange business.

[X] Attempt to approach Morghur to see if he can be communicated with
[X] Attempt to scout the forest at the base of the Karak

These all seem cautious enough. A low-chaos area of the Waste is decent to hang around in for a bit. It beats the drive back, at any rate. Scouting or communication would remove a lot of the current uncertainty.

Not at all enthused by the idea of trying to infiltrate a Dwarf Karak, especially one surrounded by beastmen led by Morghur. Asking politely to come in seems pretty reasonable by comparison, even if he is an eldritch abomination. Scouting around or fortifying are pretty unlikely to get a hostile reaction, at the very least.

Oh, is that the "watch the tribes attack" option?

Yeah, Boney mentioned we can probably see the fight from here.
Yes, that is the watch the tribes attack option.
Cool, I'll vote for that too then.

[x] -[x] Try throwing in a letter attached to a rock, or any other methods that allows you to maintain distance, throw as many letters in as many language as you can, include Asarnil if elven language is needed, and include easy instructions that shows signs that Morghur or the beastman understood the letter.

Now that I think about it, if we can see them attack, they can probably see us not attack. I wonder what impression that's going to make.

Boney, you gotta stop dropping these event-bomb updates when I'm sleeping. I've been dethroned as #2 thread poster because I miss all the discussion!

Anyway, I'm in a YOLO mood.

Talked myself into trying a few things.

One thing we should do before we leave: get a long sample of rock from the edge of effect, enough to last about 6 weeks. If the effect persists even once the rock is removed according to its original location we should be able to show it to cython, who is probably the best bet for finding out what kind of divinity it is.

If we're lucky seeing us not leaving will make Borek guilty enough he comes out to try to shoo us off again.

I am open for everything but leaving.

While this is true... would you bet your own life on it meaning Mordred has absolutely no mutative aura, as opposed to something else going on?

Which is why when I made the plan to meet with Morghur, to do so from the distance using thrown rock letters, and a gift basket, it also lets us analyze how intelligent the beastmen and Morghur and wether communication is possible in the first place.

I am still trying to figure out why anyone thinks it would be a good idea to go through dense forest filled with beastmen, towards a mountain where we don't know the entrance is, by ourselves, when there is a risk of being turned into a chaos spawn when using magic, and we have no clue as to if we would be even welcome in the mountain? And of course, then make our way back…

How much actual exploring of forests and dense woodland has Mathilde actually had? If anyone could do it out of this group, I would expect it to be the rangers...

I understand the vote for talk to other people to get information

.... We know that rocks and stone are being transformed into sand what else is going on. We know there are a lot of bones and banners which haven't been turned to sand, maybe we should test what is actually affected and how

Suggestion, put some water, metal (coins, or other random bits and pieces), random rocks (but not from the edge, somewhere a bit further back), etc into the area and see if they transform into something, put the same stuff in an area about to be transformed and wait to see how it changes or if it does.

I'd like to point out that on several maps,
Including the one used by Boney for the Dark Lands...

Karak Zorn is located in the mountains of Nehekhara, south of the Charnel Valley.

Now, from the update we learned the following;

"And the sand? Is it fragmented scoria?"

"No," he says instantly. "Wrong colour completely." He bends down and picks some up, letting it run through his fingers before putting a pinch in his mouth. "Sedimentary silicate, not igneous. Nearest place you'd find this is the southern Dark Lands."

You remember what Cyrston said. "Anywhere in the northern Empire with that sort of sand?"

"Nowhere near. All I know of that would is the southern Dark Lands, Araby, and Nehekhara."

With a tiny fizzle of Divine energy, a tiny piece of rock disappears from the lip of the crater, replaced by a few grains of sand that tumble down to join the rest of the desert.

"Thank you for your insight," you distractedly tell the Dwarf as you stare.

Incidentally, there is also a forest on the other side of that mountain range, though I have no idea whether the trees would be right.

This was mentioned earlier by at least one person, but no one paid it much mind. I'm going to nap soon, but someone please put your thinking cap to the task, because this is (hopefully) worth using some brain power on.

It's also worth noting that Karak Zorn is very old. Old enough to, perhaps, remember some of the same things that Karag Dum wishes it didn't.

Edit: First link fixed.

I think there's too many question marks to try anything more proactive; observing the tribes attack will hopefully answer some of them.
