1, I would prefer she study her new Elysium book to look into her own brand of magic, but her awareness is also a good thing to Train, so I can support this.
Her being able to detect magic will probably synergize with her being able to use it, and will also generally make her a bit safer if we keep pulling her into danger-adjacent scenarios.

The big one is 2.
Makoto should really be dealing with other more personal issues. Either her schooling, or her effectiveness in combat being overly reliant on magic lightning.
Hmmm. Well, first, her effectiveness in combat also comes from beating the shit out of things with her bare gracefully white-gloved hands. Sailor Jupiter, say what you will, wasn't combat-ineffective in canon, and most monsters won't specifically be immune to her elemental attacks, any more than by blind luck most monsters will be specifically vulnerable to Usagi's sonic attack.

The schooling issue is legitimate- and note that Makoto transferring to our school is canonical and would simplify things for us a bit, since we wouldn't have as much trouble meeting and conferring. So that bears considering.

I might yet be convinced to have Makoto's personal action go to transferring schools- in fact, you'll note that in an earlier post I thought about it seriously.

Also, plan fly me to the moon isn't an official plan yet, only the plan title is marked, it is essentially an empty vote.
In my experience that's not how it works. The tally will still correctly pick up on votes. QM is perfectly capable of just reading, seeing which plan won, and looking up the contents. In fact, this is often more legible and easier to work with in tallies than having giant monster block quotes of a fifteen-line plan like this one would be.

don't forget the question of luna revealing the identity of the moon princess and weather or not to bring in Minako should also be in the vote.

You know, I've never done one of the big block plans for this quest, so I'm sure now is a wonderful time to jump right into the deep end:

I've tried to strike a balance between social maintenance (helping Makoto get some stability, spending time with Usagi's family, letting Naru be special and useful); long-term set up, especially in the form of learning languages; and actually doing things (the pet shop, Hino Shrine)

Day in and day out her once happy and outgoing boy was becoming more and more withdrawn. He seemed less and less interested in seeing his friends, less interested in going outside, or even playing his silly little video games.
why do all parents think about them like this?!

They're not silly! :mob:

She isn't lonely.

She isn't.

...to be fair, she doesn't really TRY to get closer to Usagi, or at least we didn't really see it yet. I can't talk about Shingo, as we don't really know how things were for him.

... ehi, I just noticed, WE FORGOT TO TELL TUXEDO ABOUT THE EARTH KINGDOM MAGIC BOOK WE FOUND!

I mean, HE certainly would appreciate knowing about it and/or getting it. It would likely be a good way to gain his trust/friendship.

Maybe we can have Naru make a copy, before giving back the original?

I think I want Luna to tell Usagi about the princess thing.

now, for important things to do this turn:

1)Youma plots to stop/investigate: Shapelin Gym, Pet Store, Radio show, Dojo, disappearing buses.

2)Sailor Mars get.

3)Improve stats

4)check the magic shop again

5)repair the bracelets.

there are obviously other interesting things too, like learning more spells, or trying to awaken our past memories, Possibly starting to consider what to say to our family, checking the other artifacts Luna has, studying our current artifacts and related knowledge (like flower language, lunar and/or ancient earth language...), Having Makoto move to our school...

I'll see the proposed plans later.

If you're going to do it with all the X's in, and with that structure, you'll want it to read:

Not really commenting on the rest of this stuff, but I really like the flavor of Usagi reaching out to her mom after she starts feeling increasingly disconnected from her children. The potential inconvenience of getting discovered is judged as less important than her mom's well-being. And tbh, the mom segments of the recent turns have all been really good stuff, it elevates her from her potential role as NPC parent who is only important as a minor obstacle to protagonist goals and otherwise blends into the background of Usagi's civilian life.

Since people seem set on taking the risk, one can only hope that it will not backfire. Having too much empathy is not always a good thing, though, and this situation with the mother could be one of them. If the position brands one as callous, then so be it.

I agree with most of this plan, especially after the discussions on most of the options for this past turn.

However, I agree with what others have mentioned, that Makoto is wasted on a generic DK Agent Search. We already have leads on almost half a dozen specific plots to investigate, plus your plan already has a generic DK Agent Search in the Global Intrigue section, a second is redundant on top of everything else.

Another thing I'd like to point out is Usagi's Personal action to go to Shapelin. We started developing a decent Martial upgrade on our first visit, and Lunaryon stated that it'll fade away if we don't follow up on it, but we can make it permanent with follow up workout sessions. If we're not going to find another Gym, then we may as well go to Shapelin, since it also doubles as covertly gathering more information on their operation anyway.

Of course all the other Usagi Personal Actions you've listed need to get done. But we can shuffle them around to get them all done by having someone else Check Out the Pet Shop. Makoto's action could be better spent on that as a named investigation rather than a generic one. Of course, her school transfer is also something to go for, but I don't think anyone else should be switched to the Pet Store instead...

The thing is, Usagi runs on not-callousness; it's one of her great strengths and virtues.

So for those of us who want to play, not Generic SV Protagonist Quest, but Sailor Moon, this is appealing.

You're the second person to say so. I'll probably switch Makoto to the school action... or maybe the pet shop... but I'd like to hear what other people have to say, since you're a bit unsure about which to do.

I'm a bit concerned about running into Jadeite at Shapelin and possibly having him start recognizing us. Even if he can't clock Usagi as "Sailor Moon, but untransformed" because of cognitohazard bullshit, there are only so many blonde bunheads in the city. He saw us at the talent show audition, and he could plausibly learn to recognize our civilian identity as a person of interest who keeps showing up a few days before his plots get blown up.

I'm not too worried about him tracking down Nagisa and Honoka because they don't look that unusual, but if he puts out an all points bulletin for "blonde girls with an odango and hair done in tails down to here," he's probably gonna get clues about us pretty fast.

But you're not wrong about the training benefits... though I'm a bit shaky on which personal action to sacrifice. I feel bad about it but would be inclined to drop the 'bed for Luna' for this turn, in hopes of putting a pin in the Martial stat boost.

Also an option.

I'd like to hear what others think.

Tenno is a Japanese title, in our world it is the title of the Japanese emperor - but it should be borne in mind here ... that Western and Eastern titles do not quite coincide.
Pronunciation-wise, it's identical to Haruka's surname...which is also only one word off, kanji-wise. The kanji for the emperor is 天皇, which comes out literally as "Sky/Heaven Emperor", while hers is 天王, "Sky/Heaven King."

One would think that looking for other Senshi can be dismissed, given the precious and limited number of actions.
Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune are still out there, though, and getting them early would be a massive derail.
Ummm... Red hair, knows Earth Kingdom language, jealous, is obviously a reincarnation... I have a feeling about Naru, and it might be a problem, later.
That would be an amazing yet horrible twist.

Can someone spell out the speculation? Because it sounds like you're thinking "Beryl's reincarnation." But the original Beryl is still around, so what... this would make Naru the reincarnation of her abandoned good side or something?

Hm, perhaps someone related to Beryl. There is a possibility that Beryl could be enacting a complex plot by using a memory gambit on herself to take the form of Naru so that she does not have Beryl's memories in this form, perhaps hoping to get close to the Senshi and gain more information about them, the better destroy them from within. Of course, the plot would be complicated by the fact that without remembering herself as Beryl when in Naru's form, she would have difficulty coordinating the various components of the plan.

I'm not worried about that, because Usagi didn't do anything in her civilian identity during the Cinderella Caravan that would make her stand out from the hundreds of other attendees. And we've been repeatedly shown how absurdly effective the cognito-hazardous identity protection of the Senshi's transformation is, Jadeite simply cannot comprehend any connection between the different identities without personally witnessing the transformation. Also he's still hopping around between other plots like the Midnight Radio and resettling the Clock Youma, so that's less chance of us even stumbling upon each other in mutual civilian guises anyway.

I feel bad about it but would be inclined to drop the 'bed for Luna' for this turn, in hopes of putting a pin in the Martial stat boost.
Well despite what the old flavor text of the option says, Luna isn't actually sleeping in the tree anymore. After Usagi got permission to keep her as a pet, the scene where Usagi got woken up by the first Precure Rainbow Beam showed that Luna is sleeping in her room now, she just doesn't have a dedicated pet bed. So it's still just a little bit of guilt, rather than a lot.

Of course, there hasn't been any statements indicating that Makoto needs to rush transferring to another (our) school right this week. In fact, it may work out better for her to wait until we complete the Chen subplot and clear her name first, that way she doesn't have to worry about bad rumors following her to her new school like the option says. So I guess I support having Makoto look into the Pet Shop.

Also another thing I thought of: should we follow up on the Hirotoshi Dojo for our Martial Action? We were concerned about looking into the aftermath of the Dojo Destroyer's attack there last turn, but we had to put it off in favor of helping Makoto, as was proper. But now that Makoto's situation is more stable, and her Martial action is reduced to a generic hangout option, we have the time to spare on the Dojo plot line. Makoto initially took the time to introduce us to it after all, and I presume it will lead to its own benefits separate from but stackable with whatever Makoto can contribute to our training.

BTW @Lunaryon were we not supposed to get an action for Usagi to improve her medical knowledge? Or does that just get covered by Studying with Ami?

It would be further complicated by the fact that she'd have had to enact the plan well before the Sailor Senshi arrived on the scene (Usagi's known Naru for years), and would have to have at least a rough idea of the whereabouts of the Senshi's civilian identities to steer Naru into position.

It would be further further complicated by the fact that if Beryl already knew Sailor Moon's civilian identities, there'd be a lot more Bad Shit going down. And there isn't.

I'm pretty sure that whatever this is foreshadowing, a specific link to Beryl isn't it. Unless this is, like, umm... OK, how do we make this a viable plot that feels like it could be Sailor Moon stuff...

Aha!

Naru could be a time traveling Beryl who tried to go back into the past to undo her mistakes after learning too late who we are... Only she overshot and her consciousness got mapped onto Baby Naru too early, before her Dark Kingdom forces had gone active! So she couldn't warn her past self about us right away, and before she could, she learned the meaning of friendship from growing up with Usagi, so she effectively had, like, a redemption arc as a whole prequel fic. Or something.

Honestly, on my part it was just a "This is familiar, and I don't like the associations it's bringing up," not a specific theory.

I did see a fanfic once where an evil!corrupted!demon!Beryl got seperated from her good side, but I don't know if that has any bearing on what's going on here.

It could be a "Vader killed Anakin" on the old Moon Queen's part, combined with the resurrection targeting everyone "killed" during the fall of the silver millennium and conceptual magic hax making a cloned resurrected Beryl, if accidentally, although that falls into Wild Mass Guessing territory.

Point is, we don't know what's going on, but there is enough potential foreshadowing there that we should at least keep an eye on it.

To be fair, we're running pretty much entirely off three things about Naru.

1) Naru's hair color (which is... 'red,' but a fairly natural red, not the flaring scarlet of Beryl's hair, so it's not a perfect match. And don't tell me that that's because Naru got a realistic normalized version of unrealistic anime colors. Because we have seen multiple bluenettes onscreen. If Princess Mercury's reincarnation has vivid blue hair, then I am pretty sure Beryl's reincarnation can- might not, but can- have equally vivid red hair.

2) Naru experiencing a spike of jealousy about clearly not being a reincarnated planetary princess like her best friend and her two new friends. This is, admittedly, fully understandable in a teenage girl, so maybe we shouldn't read TOO much into it.

3) Naru's familiarity with Ancient Earth-ese, which really only proves that she's a reincarnation of, uh... anyone on Earth at the time the Silver Millennium fell.

And weighing against all of this are the facts that Naru's overall temperament is very little like Beryl's. And that if Beryl had any access to the information Naru knows we'd be screwed in ways that would be immediately obvious and that she'd almost certainly have acted on immediately.

So let's not make too much soup out of too little stock here, okay?

I would be happy to pass it off as coincidence or a dumb theory... it's just that the narrative there went out of its way to point out those specific three things in the same scene, and that triggered my foreshadowing sense hard. It could be nothing, but it could be something. Maybe I just need to look at this when I'm not up past my bedtime. I don't know.

And I wouldn't put too much stock into Naru not immediately betraying us. My first theory was that the death of Beryl's humanity/goodness was metaphysically close enough to a real death to get her caught in the reincarnation spell. That would explain the counter-argument you brought out, and there are plenty of wilder theories that could probably explain it too but I can't think of them.

Sleep-deprived rant cut short: we don't know enough and shouldn't rule out possibilities. GM has already pulled out wild ideas. We should be ready if Naru turns out to be more than she appears.

Also, let's not be a bad friend that might cause our allies to betray us because we treated them poorly. That's just common sense.
