The male judge is the most suspicious, but I worry that for an operation this big, we might be missing another Youma working for/with him.

...You mean apart from Mikan, the "sponsor" of this whole mess and the one who plays the mind-control chimes? I'm guessing that the other two judges are just mind controlled to bring some "star power" to this whole arrangement. At any rate, I'm hoping that we can find their HQ now and get this mess over with, rather than wait for Sunday and having to work around a live studio audience.

Mikan is, going by canon, probably the actual youma running this operation... but the unknown male is quite likely to be a dark general. Someone to watch out for.

And, especially with the dice, there is a chance for some surprise military...
After all, this is really not subtle, and two out of the three investigation dice recently shown were crits...

"If..." It takes a moment for you to realize that the words are coming from your mouth. "If that is the case, if we are all going to die here. Then tell us who you are, tell us what you are, and who you work for!"
..come on, REALLY? She's trying to get the villain to monologue?

"You know my name. The loud mouth said it." the demon motions to the still smoldering pile of sugar that contains your once superior. "I am Guimauve Lave. Youma of the Dark Kingdom. We have come to finish what we began ever so long ago. The Extermination of your pitiful species. Mankind has no place in the light, the only place it shall have is in the Lightless Hell that Metallia shall bring forth, as nothing more than cattle for your betters."
AND OBVIOUSLY IT WORKS!

well, at least they know now...

No. The Important Part - That is the bolt of fucking ELECTRICITY that leaps from your hand to the belt of explosives. There is a moment, a single crystallized iota of time, where the bolt is about to strike the grenades, about to set them all off...
The explosion ROARS, consuming the beast, but Saito is there - He is out of the demon's grip, blood running down one side of his face, and his hands are out. He is...

Is...

Holding the fire?

Containing the fire? Wrapping the explosion back in on itself, and slowly the man's hands draw closer and closer together, as more of the fire and death that is the explosion burns itself out.

..now, the real problem: will anyone believe them? Unless they can repeat the magic use they'll probably be considered crazy...

On the other hand, they could maybe be good contacts if we manage to meet them..

so... guns don't work, though it might depend on the specific youma. Grenades do.

...They're gonna need rocket launchers I fear, or grenade spam. And even that would only really work against the very low level ones, and might fail if they prepare for them.

Not a bad idea, though that should probably wait until the authorities know and approve of us (if and when that is) because I feel like throwing pipe bombs around is a fast way to make ourselves very legally shady and also asking for production mistakes that might just kill us. We're a magical girl, not bomb-proof.
...so we can't copy Homura :( ?

eh, but seriously, our magic spells are better.

Music starts to play, as Makoto gives one final bow. "Today, I am going to be performing 'Fly me to the Moon', by Frank Sinatra."
..her subconsciuous recognizing Serenity?

Usagi stops everything she is doing, just listening as her friend just lets go, singing with all her heart. The way that Makoto's eyes drift close as she sings, the way that she sways back and forth. Makoto is giving it her all, and there is a part of Usagi that can't help but wish that there wasn't a demon invading this contest, because Usagi honestly thinks that Makoto had a chance of actually winning the contest.
Personally I kinda regret not having Usagi sing as well.

Maybe we can play a duet sometime?

[USAGI GAINS 'TUNING I' -2 to the Prowess bonus gained from transforming into a Senshi, but +2 to Martial]
..so we basically absorbed/internalized part of the senshi power into our base form? NICE

For a moment, there is a look on Makoto's face, one that is filled with... something. Usagi doesn't have the slightest idea what that emotion is, she has never seen anything like it before, and when Makoto's foot finally touches the ground, she goes still, 「My lady... I... 」 Makoto speaks, but it isn't in Japanese. That...

That was High Lunar.

Makoto drops to her knees, bowing low before Usagi, 「Apologies, I... I don't know what came over...」 The girl's words trail off, before she blinks, a deeply confused look on her face. 「Wait... Usagi? What...?」 But any and all thoughts on how Makoto is speaking in High Lunar, because there is something far more important at the moment.
Interesting. She recognized Serenity for a moment.

You know, I wonder what exactly was the relationship between the princesses in their past lives. Were they actually friend, or was it a more formal relationship? Was it ever stated in canon somewhere?

The two of you sit there for a long moment, Makoto struggling with her thoughts, while Usagi just revels in the feeling of Makoto's strong arms wrapped around her.
...

"Usagi, that cat is talking." Makoto points out, clearly beginning to reach the point where everything is just becoming too much for her to really parse.
ehi, that cat is our spymaster!

Also our pet.

Don't play against her at poker. Or Liar's dice

Hwrm. Does that increase or decrease our transformed combat performance, or is it a wash? I forget how that works, mechanically...

Funny enough the rules don't mention how Prowess work, but I think it should basically be the same while transformed, except we're stronger while untrasformed
Good call!

Again. Real princesses delegate. Including jobs like "have a good memory." :p

so we just need to be pretty and kick youma ass? That's not too bad!

I mean, they're not asking us to learn Math at least!

So at the moment on phone.

You guys should have gotten Makoto's sheet at the end of the update, but there is no way I am getting it in the proper place while on phone. Just getting it here was hard enough

Interesting, Makoto's Compasionate Trait doesnt come with a -2 to Intrigue. So I gues with more experience with differnt people it can be removed.

Also, do we need to vote to put Makoto as Trainer?
Because Usagi could use that +3 to Martial.

Its one of those frustrating things - everything about Makoto's shown skills, her abilities even her position in the Senshi make it clear that she should obviously be the Martial advisor...

But I want there to be more than one singular slot for her. I think I vague managed that with Luna and Naru, but Ami and Makoto seem built for one position.

I mean, there's probably a legitimate argument for stewardship? Because she's actually good at managing things, which is reflected in her stat, and none of the other inner senshi are good at that; Rei and Ami are probably about equal but not better per se, and Mina is almost certainly worse. Meanwhile Mina and Rei probably have at least competative martial to Jupiter, from their solid offensive magic and (in the former case) greater experience. It's just, well, we really need a martial advisor and she's good at it. I think the only real way around that would have been for us to get Rei before Makoto, or at least at the same time.

...Does Makoto have more Prowress even untransformed than Usagi and Ami do when transformed!? Hell, even if we don't unlock her as a Senshi, we may just bring her along on this operation just for kicks!

I imagine she'll take some penalties against a lot of them if she tries to fight without magic, and doesn't have the options our spells provide. Still a very good sign of how strong she'll be though. I'm betting once we get the bracelet fixed and in her hands Sailor Jupiter might peak over 50 prowess.

@Lunaryon , I'm trying to get a sense for how 'TUNING I' works. It boosts Martial in untransformed state, but decreases the Prowess bonus for transforming... Does this, or does this not, reduce Sailor Moon's transformed combat performance? Clearly if the rolls are Martial+Prowess we're good, but I forget how that goes.

Also, if Makoto's trait were unique (Sailor Uranus may match it, dunno), I'd be advocating for the perfect trait name, from an archaic word for a woman who is tall, imposing, and of stately, beautiful appearance:

Junoesque.

Would be too good to pass up, were I in your shoes. ;)

What happens later may cause us to want to juggle people around in the various slots- Mina may well be competitive with Makoto and displace her from the Trainer spot, for instance. But that's a concern for later, and right now Usagi is a fairly unwarlike girl by nature who keeps getting into life-and-death battles with a bunch of fuckin' demons, so we need all the help we can get in Martial/Prowess, specifically.

If we get Commanders, then Jupiter would be very good for that position. Unlike CK2, in CK3, a commander's ability is measured by Prowess instead of Martial. Usually you don't want your Council to be leading Armies, as that would risk their deaths.

So I dont remember if it was the Dream arc with the unicorn, or the Sailor Stars arc

But there is a moment where we see untransformed Minako outrace a speeding car on foot, and another momrnt... It might have been Makoto who leaps up two stories while untransformed.

And of course. NEO-Serenity who can do everything Sailor Moon can without transforming.

The Tuning trait is a measure of how slowly the Usagi and friends grow from being regular humans who transform into power houses to eventually being power houses that wrap themselves in a magical field that is made from multiple layers of mystical defenses that also act as a magical focus allowing ghem to better control thier spells.

Mechanically, it slowly reduces the back of house math as Prowess is Martial plus prowess specific bonuses, also once the trait maxes out it will upgrade to a better variation

[X][Cinder] Get in loser we're gonna fight the DK
- [X] Explain everything that you know about the Moon Kingdom and your position as Sailor Moon
- [X] Explain what you know about the Dark Kingdom, the Youma that are invading Japan, and what little you know of their goals

- [X] Try to discover where the Cinderella Caravan's Headquarters are situated
- [X] Search for the location of the Auditorium that the Talent Show is going to be held in

My thinking is, if we manage to defeat the Youma there's no guarantee that everyone will go back to normal. This way we can hedge our bets and turn everyone back to normal at the talent show if they don't go back to normal after killing the Youma.

She fights a Youma even before turning into Sailro Jupiter.
So it fits.
I mean, yes. She did suplex (?) that one youma, though it doesn't seem to have done much lasting harm by itself.

But. Um. Two problems.

On the one hand, after what we just saw from Kimiko Quest, I'm very hesitant to bring Makoto to a youma fight if she doesn't have something magical. Depending on the exact nature of the youma in question, her ability to suplex them may just get her dangerously close to something that's very likely to kill her messily. If we can't get her transformation artifact to her and awaken her as a Senshi, I'm not so sure... Hm. The Thunder Bracelets might qualify, though, and while they're not her transformation artifact they are arguably her rightful regalia, no? Certainly they look like it.

On the other hand, one of the critical elements of the Sailor Scout transformation is the bullshit-tier cognitohazard identity protection. If Makoto goes there in her civilian identity and openly fights youma, she's going to out herself pretty effectively. Even if it doesn't lead to the Dark Kingdom (or the government) specifically clocking her as Sailor Jupiter in the near future, Makoto Hino will still be a Person of Interest to both groups once they figure out what happened.

If nothing else, this is coming after Cafe Panama, and it's implied that what happened at the other two targets the police raided was WORSE than Cafe Panama, in the sense of "bigger disaster." At least the good guys won at Cafe Panama!

So "Local Schoolgirl Suplexes Demon," combined with a fair likelihood of someone getting a picture of her, means the police will be desperately eager to learn how she did it, and who her sailor-suited friends who apparently fucking vaporized said demon. And a bit of police work will make it relatively easy for them to locate her.

If we were going to a confrontation in a park after dark or something (as in canon) I wouldn't be worried about it, but this is very public.

I mean yes, that's the idea behind my plan too- I'm the one who suggested it. Blow up the youma before the talent show, then show up to the talent show itself and break the mind control if necessary with a few Moon Tiara Stardust castings.

The trick is, that "unidentified male judge" gives me worries- he could just be some guy Usagi doesn't recognize, but he could also be one of the Dark Generals. There are combinations of situations where that would make a difference. For instance, awakening Makoto isn't a certainty here, and I'd move a lot more cautiously with a Dark General taking a close personal hand in the event and without Sailor Jupiter.

So I think making a special effort to investigate him is worth it, which "Is That A Load-Bearing Youma?" does.

Evaluating priorities among the options:
1. Explain the Moon Kingdom
Definitely needs doing, but the arguments I've seen here have talked me out of considering it critical right now. Might help an attempt to awaken her powers at this meeting (I was under the impression that the failed awakening roll event has come and gone now?), which does bmp up the priority somewhat.

2. Explain the Dark Kingdom and youma
Definitely mandatory.

3. Makoto's Magic
Reinforcements are good, especially if we're heading into a large crowd of mind controlled civilians and an unknown number of actual demons (and Simon_Jester's worry about the unknown male being a Dark General has me worried too).
> New analysis: If we're awakening Makoto's magic, explaining the Moon Kingdom is probably a necessary intermediate step.

4. Headquarters:
Probably our best chance of disrupting this without catching the mind controlled contestants in the crossfire. Important.

5. Male judge:
Not sure if this is our top priority, but Simon_Jester has got me sharing his worries.

6. News on the other judges:
Agreeing with the assumption that this is likely to take significantly longer than the other options on the list here. Delegate this to Mercury to do after the meeting; she has a better shot at getting into the news archives, instead of just what happens to be on the news right now, in the hour or two of our meeting with Makoto.

7. Auditorium:
Sharing the assumption that the mind control we got hit with should have already told us exactly where this is. Mandatory if that's not true, of course, but even then it should be something the Mercury Computer can do in a couple minutes at most.

8. News on people acting strangely:
I thought it had only been a few hours since the audition thing started?
> Assume for the moment that the answer is "no." Even if this is wrong, we have more pressing concerns (the HQ search, for example).

9. Ami and Naru sneaking in:
> The auditorium is a known battle site, and possibly even a trap set for us.
> Naru doesn't have the firepower to accomplish much. Leave her out of this.
> Ami would probably need to sneak inside in Mercury form anyway.
> Even if the answers are both "yes", I don't see any tactical advantage to be gained by actually using the option. Very low priority.

So, in order of priority:
1. Makoto's magic
2. Explain Dark Kingdom
3. Headquarters
4. Male judge investigation
5. Explain Moon Kingdom

6. News on the other judges (more efficient to delegate this to Mercury and do it later).
7. News on people acting strangely (ditto, with the additional concern about this giving more time for the answer to change from 'no" to "yes").
8. Auditorium (assuming we have the mind control remnants telling us where it is; if not, this gets higher priority).
9. Ami and Naru sneaking in (we don't want to have them sneak in, so this is pointless).
