I would think 'to pay the price of controlling the weather, I'm going to have to help the ice witch finish some clan grudge, will be gone for a few days at some point, don't send people to look for us.'

'We're already through the pass, so I don't want to risk the salvation of my people for the sake of doing errands for a witch, and in the worst case scenario one witch will be easier to deal with than an entire angry Kurgan tribe. Tell her to walk home.'

Doesn't sound very honourable for a Dawi. I can see a pragmatist saying that,(even though it does create pragmatic problems with future alliances) but not someone from a race that has oath psychologists. Not even Gotri seems radical enough to propose outright dealbreaking as a solution, and even if he didn't make the deal (and thus it is not his problem), being that uninterested on your followers honours is... a very bad look for a Dawi.

He was sent for reinforcements 184 years ago. Mathilde doesn't want to find out what lengths he'd go to to finally succeed. Maybe she's doing him a disservice, but she'd rather take unneeded precautions than be blindsided.

I'd expect a large part of the reason is that it's not something he agreed to, so he doesn't feel terribly compelled.

And the rest is that he's running on 180 years of desperation and he's not going to let his one and only shot at seeing his family and home get ruined.

This is why I think we need the legitimancy and concentrated power of leading all the imperial contributions to the quest.

While I was thinking that we only want to directly control the wizards, if this is Borek's state of mind, controlling a bunch of levers of power suddenly seems a lot more important

[X] Lead the Wizards, Knightly Orders, and Asarnil

Being fair, it's only what Mathilde thinks is his state of mind.

Though of course, I expect most of us here would find her fairly trustworthy.

If the Knightly Orders vote wins, I just hope that we are able to add one or two of their leaders ("to provide deep relevant specialist understanding of their needs, limitations and capabilities") to any 'council meetings'

Like... Borek + Ranger + Engineer + Slayer Boss + Mathilde = five. There should be room for human "Advisors", provided they speak dwarven.

Interesting how we never considered before that recruiting a bunch of friends might help us in an leadership power struggles. We have been spoiled at K8P. Back in Stirland it would have been the first consideration. Not every dwarf leader is like Belegar.

It isn't going to come to any votes in the meetings and if it did the more we are in charge of the more voting power we have.

Dwarfs are not actually the stereotype, and in fact, do have complexities and shades of grey, (and even just right up bad guys)

now if only the thread will remember that instead of defaulting to 'dwarfs can do no wrong!'

though considering how much you have hammered this point in with comments, background and even two brothers murdering each other for power...

ya...

It isn't really about fun. It's about being effective. We want this expedition to come back a success. Really don't want to come back alone on our shadow horse with everyone else dead. That would do bad things to our rep.

Less fun to read. I am here to enjoy the quest. I enjoy it most when it is Mathilide doing a stealth game. Not when it is her doing a generaling.

Impact social pressure resulting from seeing a bunch people disagreeing with someone - this should hopefully influence dwarves (at least somewhat) from being less inclined to go along with Borek, assuming he goes "self destructive in a way that threatens other people via his orders"

direct and literal 'votes' are not the idea I am trying to communicate.

This is the second time I've registered feeling that you've taken a swipe at a group of people that might include me in the past few days.

So. I'm asking: What is it that has given you the perspective that "the thread" risked defaulting to a stupid "dwarves can do no wrong" position?
Citations and explanations requested.

Considering our new spell layout and the fact we are not going to be staying in most places very long I expect that we will be acting more as a battle mage then a assassin this trip. Scouting was easy when we lived right next to the enemy camp such that we could go out look around and be back for lunch. Now we don't have that sort of luxury.

I think the general assumption was that if there was any disquiet among the leadership we would just hit them over the head with this lot:
Thane of Karak Eight Peaks, Loremaster of Karak Eight Peaks, Court Wizard of Karak Eight Peaks, Dawongr, Azrildrekked, Dawizhufokri.

Dwarf Reputation: 134
and dictate matters on the strength of our towering rep.
