Does Mathilde think the various groups she would be speaking for are okay with her doing so? Have they been consulted with on this? Deciding that you have the authority to speak for someone unilaterally is the sort of thing that can be a grievous insult.

I assume yes, they are all here on her word and 'authority' as well as being her cultural responsibility.

everyone knows that if they do something stupid it's her rep on the line. So it would not be a shock to them if she gets a bit hands on.

No need to take on too many responsibilities. The wizards are going to be enough trouble keeping on the straight and narrow with Egrimm in our midst.

Like in this hypothetical controlling Van Horstman quest to me the idea that Mathilde is the prodigal collegiate member that ends up going evil would almost be too telegraphed, especially with the QM being able to drop hints like an odd degree of knowledge on the inner workings of Dhar :p. Them going bad would be about as equally bad, in fact Mathilde might even be worse, as a Grey she wouldn't be releasing a single chaos Dragon she could screw over/corrupt the Empire's intelligence apparatus for generations.

*It is kinda everywhere beyond simply just being opposite winds, physically they're also opposites to seemingly their preferred modus Operandi, with Horstman having his choir and Mathilde being super sneaky solo badass stuff.

There are sooo many fun statements the QM could throw out.

"Her moment of temptation was after the death of Abelheim van Hal, when she saw what power even the incompetent can gain through dhar. She's learned a lot about necromancy since."

"She met her doom a long time ago"

"She's acted as the avatar of a god of destruction in a dark ritual, and was granted a great reward for it by her god"

"It was by her fathers hand that the last empress died, and by her god's will that the new empress was crowned."

"Mathilde first met the empress in Sylvania"

"She has baptized the crown prince in the name of her god"

"She knows the tongue of the Skaven"

"She has a divine artifact with four facets"

"She once assaulted a stronghold alone, and the occupants slaughtered each other rather than face her"

"She has a daemon trapped in eternal torment to collect its ever flowing blood"

God damn it, the thread is really the mind of a Grey.

Each time we are offered command of other wizards we start treating it as a stakeout.
 
So, why is no one talking about how Johann is now a battle wizard? Searing Doom is the signature battle spell of the Golds.

It's a very Killy stream of white hot molten metal. Gold damage spells are only as effective as the armor the target is wearing, and, in an interesting twist, anything that has sufficiently tough hide to work as armour counts as good enough for that. So, devastating against the Chaos Dwarf's entire faction and beasties with really thick skin.

Magic, eh?

Would prefer to focus our responsibilities relatively narrowly. There's a dozen wizards to wrangle, which is a ton of work by itself.

This was a fun chapter! I really enjoyed the first bit where we had the huddle.

Not a battle wizard. He is a full magister who happens to have enough aptitude and trust from his college to have acсess to battle magic.
