Has anyone thought to check if the Iron Throne is magical at all? I honestly can't remember.
It's younger than the breaking of magic, so it's unlikely to be enchanted. It almost certainly has some heft as a rune crafting reagent, and might have some sort of accrued power of its own though. We see stuff like that happen for places and creatures, so an item isn't too far of a stretch.

So is this the last thing before we hit the fey and start the invasion, or do we have something else?
The start of the invasion is at the end of the next month. In between, we got to do a bunch of deployment related things, some more scouting, some more skullduggery and maybe a spot of carpet bombing or two.

Oh. And we need to trim the Lannister family tree a bit. It will be a beautiful, beautiful bonsai when we are done.

Is it this month or next month that the Braavos scholarum opens?
Lady Alysande Redsail is the Headmistress of the Braavosi branch of the Scholarum, IIRC. She retired as leader of the Silver Eye after it was absorbed by the Inquisition. But yeah, Braavos has a Scholarum now. Wouldn't be surprised if they invited a few fey of the Orphne Court as teachers.

I may have gotten an early view of the future Lannister bonsai:

Behold how it is twisted in on itself many times, and how well pruned it is.

To add to Azel's, in this month, we have yet to:

[] get reports on strategic, economic, and other non-PC-driven actions around the Empire.
--[] Is there a way for us to shorten down on those? Just seeing the numbers all at once, maybe? I am kinda uninterested in seeing 6-9 updates only about numbers growing when we have CoS to handle. And we shouldn't leave it unattended until month's end either.
[] see report(s) on Slavers' Bay. Hopefully we can all agree it should be only a chapter or so?
[] See interlude on Lannisters.
[] See interlude on Ymeri.
[] see interlude on Rhaella doing things, convincing far-south islands that "Empire is Gud" and stuff.
[] THEN do the ritual to kill CoS.
[] lastly see Robert die.
[] some odds and ends like IC knowledge on Lucan being revealed to Viserys, and grabbing lore from Marwyn.

Part MMMDCLXXXVIII: From Near and Far
From Near and Far

Twenty Third Day of the Third Month 294 AC

It is a rarer day than you would like that you have the chance to take Dark Sister out of her sheath to see the sun and cut the air, even if it is in mock battle, but the sight that greets you is enough to stop you short. You are not exactly surprised to find Mors Umber on the training field, but you are surprised at his choice of sparring partner. Not many people would try to duel a Herald. You glance meaningfully at Ser Bonifer as the clang of Dragonsteel against arcane construct fills the air.

He is the only one who would have had the delegated authority to ask a Herald to act outside its principal directives, a contingency to ensure that the mission to Crackclaw Point went smoothly. Heralds, after all, had never been built for subterfuge, even as tattered of a thing as it has become in that particular corner of the Crownlands. "All the talking and the dearth of fights was wearying upon my good friend and companion," the knight offers

"Fair enough, not like there are many safe ways to train against... that," you add over the roar of fiery breath hitting the spot where Mors had been moments before. He may not be as nimble as Theon, Asha or Valaena, but the long years have taught him well the lesson of getting out of the way of onrushing death. "No troubles then?"

"None. We found and smuggled away the most enthusiastic, ah... partisans in the region." The fact that he is using a Low Valyrian words to get around saying 'rebel' or even 'brigand' tells you all you need to know about those who have been trickling into the Deep over the month. Fortunately the city is no stranger to smoothing out rough edges. Inquisition troopers or even Praetorians could put that enthusiasm to use.

"And the lords?" you prompt.

"Well no one objected to the code of laws, though more than a few of them confessed they regretted not being able to hand the task of reading it in full off to a maester," the knight replied, adding a moment later: "Not Lord Brune though, he is sharper than he lets on and he lets on a fair deal."

"Good," you nod towards the center of the courtyard where one Northman's attempt to fight a steel dragon on his own ended in failure, though not for lack of trying or good cheer in his loss. "Do you want to try a bout?"

For a moment the knight looks worried. You are half way through the third exchange of blows by the time it finally dawns on you what he might be concerned about. After all, you do not make a habit of keeping up with your mother's romantic preferences other than to note that she has them. The last thing she would need is for you to play some absurd game with Ser Bonifer over it. Were she displeased with the state of affairs she would doubtless be able to remedy it on her own.

You could have done without your mother and the word 'affair' in the same thought, but at least Varys is far enough away that she did not overhear to tease you over it.

On the next blow you feel an unaccustomed shiver of emotion from Dark Sister... amusement.

That evening you receive visitors from farther afield than Crackclaw Point however. At Blight Bane's urging the greater portion of the triton clans of the Jade Sea relocate to the waters of the Narrow Sea, leaving behind only those with duties, interests or in a handful of cases families. You had expected the priests and you had expected the riders, if not the serpentine grey scaled fish they rode upon. Even the shugenja are hardly a shock. What you were not expecting is to come face to face with a fully corporeal kami as its shimmering scaled head breaks the surface of the water, the guardian coming before you in all its power and majesty.

5x Priests of the Merling King [Triton Cleric 5]
16x Acolytes of the Merling King [Triton Cleric 2]

"Hail, Viserys King," the spirit greets you. "I would know what laws there are in your realm upon those seeking worship so that they might ascend through the Unseen Hierarchy and onto divinity, for I confess that desire as much as the wish not to be parted from my clan that drove me to make this journey."

What do you reply?

[] Explain that you have no proscription against nascent gods and powers

[] Explain Yss' disdain for 'false gods' so that the water kami may know to avoid his ire

I mean we are basically Creating the celestial bureaucracy for our imperial goal of screwing over everyone else. So the kami should be good.

[X] Plan Throw the Book at the Wannabe God
-[X] Explain to him that the Imperium has laws governing organized worship. An unorganized cult will usually be tolerated, as long as there are no signs of worshiping the Lower Planes or the worship incorporating illegal acts, but if he wants to name priests, have temples or similar things, he will have to submit his teachings for review to the Imperial authorities, i.e. you.
-[X] Also explain to him that Yss disdains 'False Gods', what the snakes criteria are for that label, and that it would probably best for him to speak with Yss directly to avoid problems. You don't think there will be any, but you would prefer to have this hashed out before he settles down, in case that there is friction.
--[X] Make sure he does not take this as a threat, but do make it clear that Yss is a longstanding ally of yours and that he should not expect any backup from you if there is conflict between the two. If Yss has a problem with him, it would be better for him to leave.

It doesn't help that Viserys is a habitual smirker/smiler. So everyone just assumes he's having them on or is planning something.

They're not even usually wrong...

Here's an edited version of the chapter, @DragonParadox. There are two places which need extra attention. Both seem to end prematurely. Theyre highlighted red.

[X] Azel

I assume by his company that this Kami is already square with the Merling King and we're not going to have a God-Off due to overlapping domains? (I am not opposed to a God-Off, especially if we can get it on MirrorVision).

If he hangs with the Tritons, I see no problem there or there would have been a clash already.

I also don't see much chance of friction between Yss and him, since the Kami is basically a Genius Loci that wants to make the jump to godhood. What Yss cares about though is gods talking a big game about offering an afterlife and not delivering on that, so unless the Kami makes any claims there, he should be fine.

The only one who might have objections on principle would be Burny, but nobody is going to ask him and he is pretty chill with ignoring things when nobody prods him about it.
