  • [X] This foe is beyond them. Criston and his fellows will try to withdraw, urging mages and lesser champions to retreat, to allow Bahro and the Queen's guard to deal with this.
-[X] Nirah will Teleport to this part of the battlefield to lend his aid to Bahro and the Queen's guards in destroying the Charnel Colossus.
-[X] Tyene will lend the weight of her magic to destroying the Charnel Colossus as soon as she is able, making certain to attack it from maximum range while avoiding friendly fire.
-[X] As soon as she is able, Vee will cast a Summon Monster VIII spell to Summon a Monadic Deva, then another SM VIII to Summon 1d3+1 Movanic Devas. They will move to lend support to those fighting the Charnel Colossus in whatever manner they deem necessary, whether that means healing allies or smiting the Colossus and its minions.
-[X] If any of the Moonchasers or our other vessels can take a shot at the Charnel Colossus without risking friendly fire or endangering themselves, they will do so.

... I really want Sarnor's undead lore. I hope she's willing to agree to a lore exchange.

Makes you wonder what sort of magic the Ancient Sarnori are most proficient in, huh?

With the way Queenie shapes her Class, I'm seeing a lot of War Priests or War Mages that adds physical might to magical capability. A Battlemage of sorts.

Undead for days, being the ones to invent Warforged, etc etc. This is the most we've seen a civilization of men create beings wholesale without access to a Forge.

We do know it's possible to do a lot, thanks to the Golden Company, even without a flesh forge.

I'd really like to grab the Bandersnatch body for ourselves.

We still have Timmie Avatar's Corpse.

I want to have Quburn spend some time to stitch together a CR 20+ affront to all that is holy (and all that is Timmie, ofc).
Bandersnatch seems like a good "body" to slap those five heads on, to me :V

Since we are offering Warforging to the Queen and her people, and that she'll likely take the offer at least in part, the bottom line is that we can make her a custom CR 20 Construct mount in return.
We have the technology (and more importantly, the finances).

We could certainly pose the offer of a custom mount for her in exchange for the Bandersnatch body. I've been eyeing the species for a few days now. It'd be amazing to be able to make these in the Flesh Forge, even if we have to stick to Lesser Bandersnatches since even regular ones are CR 17.

The Queen is important and powerful enough to get the full resurrection ritual treatment rather than Warforging.

And no way in hell are we going to craft her a CR 20 Construct mount. We don't have anyone even capable of such a thing for one, and even if we did, the Queen is perfectly capable of acquiring her own transportation.

EDIT: If she wanted one, however, we could manage a CR 15 Forged mount.

Yeah, CR 20 is waaay out of reach for a mount. We can give a badass CR 15 chassis of damn near anything that she can upgrade however she likes, though.

By how long it is taking, I assume lots people die and DP struggles to make it sufficient dramatic.
...Or just his internet died again.

Either or.

G'night all.

Interlude DCCCLVIII: Battle of the Dead Fields, Part Six
Battle of the Dead Fields, Part Six

Nineteenth Day of the Second Month 294 AC

There was a difference Denys knew between bravery and madness, and in all his days he had never seen a foe that would better encapsulate that difference. By the time Criston shouted, "Get the fuck away!" with emphasis from Ceria soon after he was already moving. Not as fast as the damn demon-whisperers, they had melted into the shadows without needing to be told, some small part of him noted even in the chaos of battle, but before he could take more than a few steps away from the mound of howling corpses the thing screamed.

A thousand thousand voices spinning down into infinity, young and old, rich and poor, wise and foolish, sorcerers, generals, craftsmen, princes and beggars all speaking at once, madness and malice spun together that filled the mind and tormented the spirit.

Too much...

Lines of arcane symbolism do not exist in vacuum, but following the trend of preexisting practitioners of the craft, like a riverbank carved into soft stone, take the river away and the channel remains...

...there is no material universal solvent, rather magic itself could be counted that, the great transmuter...

...the world is ossifying as magic grows ever thinner and more distant, like the rings of a dead tree slowly turned to stone...

...predictable patterns... small and ...large ...

Stop... Stop!

Denys Trainer Gains +2 Intelligence from Voice of the Ancients

Make it stop! It was only when he heard the last that Denys realized he had been screaming it himself. A small but surprisingly strong hand was pulling him away from the monster. Soft Strider, he realized looking around desperately for his friends. Ting was dragging Criston away and half carrying Ceria while the Lord of Mantarys was reaching out to clear the mind of the Lady Mereth.

The look of sheer rage she threw the horror before them was proof manifest of the name her kindred bore through blood-soaked ages, fury. Four arrows were in the air in the span of a moment, four arrows struck home, not that the damn thing seemed to care or notice.

Then Bharo smashed into it like a mountain of metal and will, fists strong enough to shake fortresses to their foundations striking so swiftly they blurred, like a smith's hammer on an anvil of flesh.

In the sky above a great serpent crowned in gold and jade undulated into being on the wings of its own magic, but before it could turn its attention to the horror one of its undulating whips lashed out to grasp Denys, ripping him from the Singer's hold as it drew him back towards the gnashing mouths and another narrowly missed Ting, perhaps hoping to catch the two the monk held.

Then as Denys watched in horror as the screaming, weeping, laughing, gibbering mouths uttered a dreadful doom upon them all: "Die as we have died, suffer as we have suffered."

All across the field the living quailed at the utterance, Ting frozen in place.

The Lord of Mantarys called out for brighter fates to bolster the mind and spirit against the madness, but for one of them it was not to be. Soft Strider fell to the ground in a boneless heap and even with the tendril squeezing the life from him Denys felt his heart sink. She was truly dead. She was dead and she might have gotten away if she had not been trying to save him...

Soft Strider is Killed

The serpent fell upon the monster with fangs alight with emerald light and where it touched the dead flesh tore and blackened like parchment brought against the flame. Then just as the thing was about to drag Denys into the mound of screaming corpses Bharo tore through it with fists of adamantine, finally seeming to rip apart whatever fel sorcery held the monster together under a shower of black bolts.

"Get... get Soft Strider's body..." Denys gasped as he tumbled to the ground below, one more body among countless others, covered in bile and embalming fluid.

Whether someone actually heard him he could not say, but Lady Mereth dived for the small body and bearing it aloft upon black wings out of the grasp of the encroaching dead.

What next?

[] The duel of the dead (the Queen of Sathar faces her usurper cousin)

[] A life restored (Soft Strider is resurrected by Viserys on the battlefield)

[] The battle for the center

OOC: Even Alter Fortune can's save them all when a level 7 ranger is in range of a Cr 19 Charnel Colossus. Still, Mereth made the roll to get the body out so it's not going to get turned into an undead, blocking resurrection as would otherwise have happened.

A CR20 mount is not really expected. As a reminder CR 20 means 'this thing has even odds of beating a Balor in combat'.

Here's an edited version of the chapter, DP.

Not gonna lie, this one made me tear up a bit. Don't worry, Soft Strider, we'll bring you back!

[X] The duel of the dead (the queen of Sathar faces her usurper cousin)

We can resurrect Soft Strider after the battle is concluded. Mereth can get her body to safety in the meantime.

And the strategy for the duel is to have 6 undead giants throw Heal-imbued giant rocks at him at once.
She then kicks the remaining ashes and declares victory.

The middle of an active battlefield isn't the best place to Resurrect Soft Strider, IMO.
