@DragonParadox By this point our air force should be doing some serious damage to the undead considering their range. Are the ranks just too vast to tell how much tactical effect that will have in an immediate sense? I mean it should at least fuck up unit coherence before they've even closed into bow range.
It was more a case of me not wanting to roll the damage at almost 2 AM for fear I would forget some bonus or circumstance. It will be in the next update.
Greetings comrades!
I read up to the distribution of dragons, and I had a question. We decided to give the dragon Maelor, but what about Malarys? He had a dragon before Doom, was there some message from DP that Malarys doesn't want a dragon?

[X] The Colonel in command here has three companies of Outriders on the left flank, and they just barely outrange the horse archers on chariots.
-[X] They can tease out the skirmish there while detaching two companies of heavy cavalry to start maneuvering to repeatedly charge enemy dismounted troops, with the remainder ready to close with the charioteers if they try to engage or target your own infantry, or alternatively if they are successfully bound by Entangle SLAs, they will instead close with the enemy charioteers immediately alongside your Scout Companies, all using lances in a mounted charge.
-[X] Keep your half-company of Darkenbeasts in position over the left flank focused on dropping alchemical fire on the enemy ground troops instead. The amount of damage they can do should more than make up for having to hold back the majority of your heavy horse rather than keeping them tied down herding their own mounted soldiers, which should make things easier for your front line once the enemy starts entering the kill zones a bit more thinly numbered or already half-burnt to cinders. --[X] Tl;Dr Note: There are around 1,500~ light cavalry and 2,250~ heavy cavalry on this side of the field. 1,500~ light horse will skirmish with the enemy mounted troops with 1,250~ heavy horse waiting for an opportunity to close with them nearby. 1,000~ lancers will target the more obviously vulnerable infantry with repeated charges. The Darkenbeasts present will also drop bombs on the enemy front ranks to thin out the first groups attempting to close with your forces using alchemist's fire bomblets. [X] The Colonel will commit his special flying assets pinning down the enemy so that the cavalry can deal with them. -[X] x6 Heralds will work together, simultaneously targeting any visible command units within range with six Fireball SLAs. -[X] x6 Veteran Erinyes (each with x30 Gravemarker Arrows) - They will target the leading edges of the enemy forces with Gravemarker Arrows in an attempt to break up their lines by forcing those within range of the effect, especially the mindless Undead (such as the mounts pulling the chariots) to attack their allies. -[X] From Long-range, x2 AdvancedPlant-ImbuedSea Drake and x4 paired Plant-Imbued Shadow Creature Cats & Verdant Ravens [AdvancedPlant-ImbuedGiant Ravens] will use their Sunburst SLAs to damage and blind wide swaths of the enemy cavalry forces, then each will expend their 3/Day Entangle SLAs to bind and hinder them. Once their SLAs are expended, they withdraw from combat to wait for further instructions.

A score of small suns had already flashed over the battlefield, casting sharp shadows and throwing the enemy down, but still they came on and on like the tide.
Without the bite of the wind on his cheek Benerro might have thought himself dreaming as he looked down upon the plains below where the chariots of the dead traded arrows with the light horse of the Legion as dragons of steel and flame, of fungal growths and strange magics, flew through the air. He would have thought it a vision of the War for the Dawn if he had not heard the soft and steady voice of the Lord of Light, not within his ears but within his soul. "This is not yet the great battle, but a skirmish worth fighting."
In the days before today the priest admitted to himself that he had worried and wondered at the wisdom of marching living men into the tomb realm of Sarnor. What worth would common steel be against dead bones that would not rest? What hope did steeds of flesh and blood have of contending with the skeletal horrors summoned to their masters' will in death?
In dragons the priest had put his hope, in magic as it was when the armies of Volantis marched north along the Rhoyne and pledged his service to the task. How wrong he had been.
An arrow of iron fared poorly against hollow bones by malice moved, but these were not merely weapons of iron but enchanted steel, and they struck swift and true. Arrow upon arrow, wave upon wave, as the outriders reeled to strike them from afar while the heavy horse waited for its chance. There were mages among the dead giving them wards against arrows and casting upon the legions ill luck and black misfortune, there were champions among them able to fire arrows bright with their own magic that would slay any man they touched.
"Draw... Loose... Draw... Loose..." he heard again and again from the ranks of the outriders, intent on putting as many arrows in the air at once as they could. There was no point in any but the most rudimentary of aiming when fighting the dead who had no eyes to pierce, no flesh to pain them. Bone shattered half hotted wood and dented bronze gave way.
Benerro added his own fire to the heralds and Lady Tyene's light striking where he saw the magic of the enemy gather tightest, under tattered banners. A few of the flames were snuffed out of existence by some sorcery of the foe or perhaps this foul rain, but more than half got through and made pyres for those who would crawl from their graves to torment the living.
All over the battlefield vines were grasping forth from the earth to hold the foe in place, but alas the foe was too wily and scattered so that any one spell would catch only one or two of them, or perhaps none at all for the dead horses were swift and untiring and the wheels of the chariots heavy. It was then the priest saw for certain that this was an army and not just a great horde of puppets to some malign will. Officers directed the break up, horns called the chariots with voices that rang of the grave.
Black feathered arrows were added the the fray as the fallen showed their hand, striking with inhuman grace, though it earned them the ire of Sarnori sorcerers who lashed out with whips of of withering un-light that pained the eye to see and strange curses that bound them to earth.
One fell between the lines, if lines could be said to exist in the chaotic melee, forcing a company of outriders to charge home to try to save her rather than wheel about. The legions of the Dragon King struck against the vengeance of Sarnor and upon that edge they bled, but they did not break. It was the dead who were smashed from their chariots by heavy lances and pushed back by weight of steel and courage.
The flank did not waver for what after all did these cursed souls have to flee towards, but it was beginning to give way. Again the horns called, the enemy were gathering for a faint or renewed attack Benerro could not say, nor would he ever know.
At the call from the legions' trumpets at Colonel Aegios's command all six heralds smashed into the wedge. All six heralds smashed into the midst of the still reforming formations and the heavy horse turned to smash home. Then from the south, from the empty plains, from the grave of Sarnor, a dreadful wailing rose and the mages of the enemy took it up. "Wither we have withered," it proclaimed to any with the ears to hear it.
Benerro prayed and across the field from him his sister in faith prayed also, for the souls of the warriors, many faithful of the Lord of Light, all doing His work. The curse unraveled before it could come into dreadful being and the enemy broke before the charge. Looking upon the field with the eyes of power and of faith Benerro saw one of the withered sorcerers cast from his ornate chariot and slain by the blades of the legionaries even as he cursed them.
Overall Result: Solid advantage on the left flank, enemy cavalry pinned in place, 16 lesser mages and 1 greater mage destroyed. Enemy command heavily disrupted.
Losses:
Light among the Outriders
Minor among the Heavy Horse
None among special assets

OOC; The enemy mages had some pretty poor luck, first with getting through the Erinyes' SR and then getting dispelled in part by Benerro, but mostly by Melisandre's crazy action economy.

That's one I would like to see from Bahro's POV. He's tall enough that he should be able to get a good view of the entire battlefield, and I bet he has an interesting inner monologue.

It must have been totally exasperating for that Erinyes to see a bunch of light cavalry ride like madmen to her rescue. The kind of madness you can't help but be happy about after chewing them out.
