There are four possible ways Enchant Item can apply here.

1) Increase the ability of Mathilde's robes to act as armour. This is pointless, because even with Enchant Item helping them they'd be far inferior to Aethyric Armour.
2) Enhance the Aethyric Armour spell itself. This doesn't work, a spell from one Wind can't interact usefully with one from another.
3) Enhance the ability of Mathilde's body to withstand damage. Mathilde's body would already be under the effect of the tirelessness effect from her Aethyric Armour, therefore the two spells would interfere with one another.
4) By applying RAW instead of thinking about the established nature of how magic works in this quest. I'm pretty sure even this fails, because Armour and Toughness are completely separate in the ruleset.

Please don't argue with me about how my quest works.

Out of interest could we apply a enchantment to the robe like the guard of steel from the chamon list or radiant sentinel from the Hysh list?

Both of those are external defensive measures that float around the caster instead of being part of the robe directly.

Hah, that's pretty funny.

It's almost never going to be the best option in a fight. I quite liked the bonus to Command and Intimidate, but Mathilde doesn't do much leading (which makes this unlikely to come up, not completely useless, mind) and any time we really want to scare someone and don't mind being overtly magical about it, we have Dread Aspect.

There's probably better choices. Maybe we can slap Wings of Heaven on there and accept that there isn't really any practical use for it, Mathilde just wanted to fly?

Yes, either would work fine.

Thanks what's the process for getting help from other wizards to do this?

How about creating a Fiendishly Complex version of Aetheric Armor?

How interesting idea, make a scaled up version of it that includes our mastery as a basic part of the spell that is harder to cast but with additional effects..

Wonder if we could put our arcane mark into the spell so that the spell includes a auto attack shadow as well. That'd give it reason to be a more complicated spell.

Still trawling through the thread but could we please, please help Panormia with her preperations for the Magister exam?

[ ] DUCK: Panoramia's about ready to test for Magister, but she's putting it off because she doesn't have a lot of free time to prepare. Work with her to help make the most of every spare minute.

It first appeared in turn 25 and we're on turn 29 now. If we ignore it this turn we'll have ignored our friend and potential love interest asking for help with advancing her career for 2 and a half years. Magical target shooting isn't going to be valuable to the expedition (certainly not this turn) and I think it says unpleasant things about Mathilde that she's prioritising that over taking the option to finally help one of her best friends with her exams after not doing so for so long.

Could we use a radiant sentinal as the light source for Burning Shadows? I would have assumed no because the light might be hysh-infused but I don't know if that changed with our multi-wind trait.

Would it work if we used a ashqy light source?

Hysh no, Aqshy yes. Though this once more runs into the problem that there's not a lot of scenarios where trying to awkwardly ping someone with her shadow would be a better use of Mathilde's time than her other spells or her guns or her sword.

It's worth noting that Pan seems completely uninterested in taking the exams. She's got a three month blank spot in her calendar and gets one every year, and she's made no moves towards even attempting to take her Magister exams.

Lets see. Quick skim:
-Max - Nothing urgent, anything useful is fine.
-Johann - Adela is idling so he may as well up her skills too.
-Ducks - Sort of interested in getting the Waaaghsoak Mushroom casting aid. Useful doping when we get to the Wastes, where if we can draw from a supply in the stomach it'd sometimes be more stbale than the overly plentiful environment?

-EIC - We REALLY need the navy now because Marienburg can't blockade without bringing it to a direct fight with Barak Varr...but they absolutely CAN encourage 'piracy' on all the rivers for much the same effect and more deniability, if less efficiently. Handlers isn't bad, but the navy is more time sensitive

[ ] Collate useful information on the northernmost Dark Lands from Qrech and Lady Magister Grey.

Valuable, unique to us.

[ ] Seek volunteers from the Colleges to join the Expedition.
[ ] Seek mercenaries to join the Expedition (optional: specify who/where).
[ ] Try to contact the Ice Witches of Kislev in the hopes they can provide clement weather for the Expedition.

We'd probably want better intel first, so we can recruit smarter.

[ ] Attempt to learn Battle Magic at the Grey College. (1 College Favour per attempt)

Hmm, do we want some Battle Magic for the trip?
Its risky, yeah, but generally speaking if you're in a situation where you need to use a Battle Magic in the Chaos Wastes you'd probably be dead if you didn't have one.

[ ] Travel to the Grey College and attend lessons there. (1 College Favour per class; 100gc can be paid instead for non-magical classes)

Theres the compulsory chaos classes, theres the crafting classes to make our top tier gear kit for the trip.

[ ] Experiment with integrating the Vitae into enchantments.

This might be helpful with making top keks gear?

[ ] Attempt to deepen your skill with Enchantment (will be more difficult than studying it at the Grey College)

Depends on if we want to rush down to the Wastes next turn or the turn after. If the turn after we should just do the enchanting upgrades first.

Current plans that look fine
[X] Plan Classy Navy
[] Plan Keep it Classy

I'd prefer the navy option for the EIC, because its kind of sorely needed and getting it after Marienburg 'pirates' sink our ships is too late. Still, other than that its fine enough, so I'll approval vote it if other plans are at risk of taking the top two, or vote navy if not.

Yea that's a big part of what turned me off from her as an option. No ambition, being sure in your self is nice but Mathilde is going places and I'd like our partner to be likewise inclined.

I think we're better served by increased our standard enchantment skill first, as it allows for greater effects on all our craft increases production rolls and means that the result of the roll is better even if we roll poorly.

Given how she discussed how she has oodles of free time except for 3 months of the year, I suspect the option is outdated and she's dragging her feet for other reasons.

It should be noted that when we were studying to become magister we got to choose how many months to study for it. The absolute minimum was 3 months and the less months you took the more impressive it was. We ended up studying for 4 months and we were a very competent journeyman. It's possible that Pan just isn't good enough to pass the exams with only 3 months of prep.

Pan has plenty of ambition- she's creating an entire ecosystem from scratch, something nobody in the Jade Order has ever done before. She just doesn't have career-advancement based ambitions.

My understanding is that during this period her magic is on the fritz (and so dangerous to use) and virtually no one is around the college to offer training. So that 3 month blank spot is deceptive. It might be usable for academia or non-magical skill training but not too much else useful to the magister exams.

The thing with Jade Wizards is that while Ulgu covers the world every time the sun goes down, Ghyran waxes and wanes with the seasons. Their College is known to be practically empty of everyone above Apprentice in Summer (when everyone's out working) and Winter (when nobody's willing or able to get up to magical shenanigans).

Edit: So I don't think that's a reliable indicator, and we know she is very busy the rest of the year.

I must have missed that, the whole waxing and waning thing is usually tied to an arcane mark that Life mages can get. So every one in the colleges being impacted is pretty surprising.

That's not really an ambition though, she's doing something unprecedented sure but she didn't search out for a chance to do so, it just happens to be a requirement after the last battle in K8P to rebuild the ecosytem from nothing due to the collateral damage from all the spells and runic magic.

I view the desire of career progression as important for serious magisters because they should have ambitions that require the greater influence that the titles bring to bare.

Yes, either would work fine.

Would that have people constantly staring at us and interfere with our stealth stuff because having balls of gold/light constantly flying around you is incredibly eye catching, or would these only activate when we get attacked or something?

Also, I found the best spell for our clothes/armor.

Cleansing Glow: Cleans touched item, unspoils spoiled food or drink.

We wear this stuff every, the amazing ability to stay clean cannot be understated.

Would Cleansing Glow extend to her own body, or would it just keep her clothes clean?

It'd be a disaster to have it constant, as they'd bumble around knocking things off shelves and such. It'd have to be activated.

It could be tweaked to do either or both.

Considering that this scouting mission is likely to be much longer any of the 8 peaks ones where we could go home after a few hours this might be a very important quality of life enchantment for this.

If you are going to spend days or even weeks behind enemy lines. Having something to unspoil food and keep your clothes clean seems very super important.
