The Path Unending (A Cultivation Quest)

[X] Write-In - "Do you like riddles, Teng Lim? I have one for you, answer it well and I'll answer a question you have for me. Say you're in front of a maze ..." (Try to get him to solve the maze riddle, mostly to get him talking). Answer his question honestly, so long as it doesn't reveal anything Jin could use in the duel, or reveal the location of valuable assets like the armory or moment. Attempt to trade questions/answers with him to try and figure out who Jin's champion is, what charms he's built, where he's been charging his charms etc. Flatter him a little "I hear you're the genius who's organized the Tear's timeshare, how did you manage that?"

Let's nerdsnipe him!

[X] Be affable, while Jai Fa continues to be intimidating as she stands behind him. Tell him that the only reason you can think that he might be following you right now is that he's spying for Jin Yazhu to learn about your charms for the upcoming duel. If this is the case, you are not angry, and you tell him as such. Neither of you know one another, except by reputation. Perhaps he is being paid, or perhaps he is being coerced, or perhaps it is something else. Regardless, you are not offended, as you doubt it is personal on his end. You'd like to hear his reasons for doing this, or if he was following you for some other reason, but right now you can't really tolerate anyone trying to spy on you. If he promises to stop, you'll let him leave unmolested this time, and if he's here for something else you'd be happy to let him speak his mind.
-[X] Note that if he is being coerced, you'd be happy to teach him a style suited towards self-defense at a later date, if he would like to learn.
-[X] You give him one last opportunity to say something. If he won't explain anything further, let him leave, and then move to find a place Jai Fa can practice while taking steps to avoid further tails.

Frankly the riddle thing is about as lame an excuse as 1 of those "It's about a friend" thing when it's clearly asking for themself. Your just revealing that a maze exist to a complete unknown with unknown motives seeing as he's pretending to be a wall when you talk to him. That sounds about as smart as telling a random person where the Armory is without any compensation.

I don't mind Socialing with Teng Lim later. For now, let's just focus on good operational security.

Not gonna lie,

I don't see the point in keeping Fa here and trying to scare Teng into talking. If intimidation was going to work, then we wouldn't be having this vote.

(No offense intended)

Essentially we're playing good cop/bad cop, though Fa is perhaps a less active participant than in some cases you might have seen. The rationale behind that is that the perp being interrogated (Teng Lim in this case) comes to see the good cop as being a friendly protector, while the bad cop is the scary person who they need protection from. So they seek to please the good cop, because doing so will protect them from the bad cop.

Literally two people know where the maze is, and we're one of them. I dont' think you have to worry about someone finding a maze that maybe exists somewhere. I'm not sure why this is a concern.

Counterpoint: the sect is big, but it isn't so big that there couldn't potentially be older disciples who have seen the maze before and would know what he was talking about. And that's not counting any potential divination arts, etc. I agree that the risk isn't huge, but better not to take it in the first place.

[X] Ask Jai Fa to go ahead to the Training ground, tell her we'll catch up.
-[X] Be friendly to Teng Lim, ask how his training has been going, offer congratulations on his progress with Elder Tantoi. Branch off into general conversation, maybe ask if he's ever thought about getting a charm to replace his spectacles?
--[X] If Teng Lim doesn't relax, give him your word that he is in no danger from us and ask what is wrong. If it's something we can help with offer aid.
---[X] If he still refuses to speak, tell him kindly but firmly that we do not appreciate being followed and ask him to leave. Then meet up with Jai Fa and resume preparations for the duel.

I'm really quite surprised. This is an option to interrogate someone and the winning plans aren't just to thump them. I actually like both the plans I'm seeing, besides the quiz one which just seems weird.

I am aware of how good cop bad cop works Enjou.

I just doubt it's effectiveness on a guy who is already too scared to speak.

Also, sending Fa away would have the same (or a very similar) effect, since KZ would be the one who sent the scarier disciple away.

I'll be honest, I don't hate your plan. I just think your are banking too much on intimidation and good/bad cop in a situation where a softer touch is called for.

If you simply broke up your first line with a "if this doesn't work, send Fa away" out plans would be virtually identical

Well, thus far there's been no reassurance. No "good cop", just intimidation, since it's largely "Surprise hello! We caught you! Why you following us?" since both disciples here could be seen as scary from an outside perspective.

... I feel like he's bait.

He's caught red handed, he's a shitty person at stealth, and apparently his perception is nothing to write home about either.

And even when he's caught, he doesn't even try to excuse himself, he just lowers his head and prays we forget he exists.

That suggests that whoever told him to do this has a hell of a lot of leverage on him, given that he's more willing to offend the two people surrounding him then to even risk offending whoever put him up to this in the first place.

Well, that, and he's not talking either--at all. I don't even think he's making any noises for that matter. This smacks of shenanigans.
I'm wondering if he's an awkward nerd with a stalker crush on Jai Fa. Remember that in addition to everything else, we ARE in the mess of hormones that is fantasy!highschool.

What could it take to make a cape that le's us fly?
We've got some wind kicking around - but I imagine we'll need more.

Things we know exist that might help:
Bird, Force, Crow, Heavens, Pride, Stars, Lightning, Smoke, Mist

Things that probably exist that would/might help
Flight, Sky, Speed, Movement, heck the possibilities are endless

What the BT would need to be for a fly-cape? No idea. I suspect we could make a "fly" charm with a pretty low BT, but it would cost a lot of anam and/or be trash-tier flight.
If we want some sort of passive-charm that lets us wuxia-sky-dash that's probably a heftier BT than we've managed so far, and we'd likely need a different skill if you want to do it as a cloak specifically. Our current skillset makes a flying-chair faster to build, but I'm not sure we'll find a lot of "bird" aspected wood.

    [X] Plan Smooth Talker
-[X] It is clear that Teng Lim is overawed by our presence, quite obviously. We will give him a moment to collect himself.
-[X] Offer up some plausible reasons for Teng Lim to have been following you: Perhaps he is interested in a commission?
-[X] Be genial, but don't give too much trust.
--[X] Incidentally, keep an eye out. There's no way this is the only agent around if he is one and he's this bad.
-[X] If he doesn't speak up, he is welcome to send us a missive, but we would prefer he not follow us about - after all, there are trade secrets about, on this eve of the crafting duel!
[X] "Perhaps you would prefer to write what you would like to say down? I believe I have a cousin who took a vow of silence, so that they might better focus on the art of charm making, you know."
