We Are the Gods of a New World Order [Warhammer 50K ~ Warp God Simulator]

No, it's a short-term large gain for a long-term medium gain. We definitely don't want to Elevate too many domains, but we are in the early game right now, we almost died to the early game, and the leading plan doesn't do much for getting to the massive cult sizes required to have more favor tokens than applicable actions.

We already have Life as core. I think getting Life and Connection makes for an excellent story overall, particularly when we're already spamming that button so hard.
I'm not going to argue about the mechanical benefits of elevating Connection. It would be great to just permanently add another bonus to all of our actions, but I have reservations about taking it narrative wise. If we elevate it, we are going to fundamentally change the way VM operates. It's true that we apply connection to a lot of our actions, but to permanently add it as a core domain would remove us of the choice of using it or not, even when we're in a situation where it's better not to use.

All mortal beings desire connection--even if that connection might be for the sole purpose of acquiring food--it would be strange if you couldn't encourage this tendency and augment it to allow connections to be made where they would be otherwise impossible, after all, are we not all stronger together?
From the description, what I'm getting is that if we add it as a core domain we're basically going to be compelled to use Connection all the time. I don't want to do this. The reason we convinced the Space Marine's was because Dana chose to trust us, no VM interference there. If we add Connection, I'm worried some of the agency that our heros and followers have would be diminished which honestly is something I feel would lessen the fun of the quest.

Allow me to simplify the comparison between Elevation.

Will having a few more options on some turns be worth +20 to +50 points each and every single bloody round from now till the end of the quest? Because I don't think we've ever gone below two actions in a round, so +20 is the absolute minimum it is likely to grant.

Heck, Expansion only lets us get domains that I'm pretty sure everyone intends to get sooner or later a bit earlier. Its quite literally an extremely short term increase in options without any increase in how much we can do per turn, and right now we need growth boosters just to get to the point we're not endangered.

The problem is, that some options are plainly not accessible to us without certain domains.
Examples:
We cannot have covens without sorcery.
We cannot plant corntatoes sustainably or create Evangelion equivalents without Earth.

I think you are underestimating the problems it could potentially cause. As nice Connection sounds... Well, in some cases I could see it screwing us over. It will presumably try to apply trying to connect with everything, and 40k/50k has more than enough of things you don't want to make connections. Like say, while trying to study the Tyranid Hive Mind, or the Ork Waaaggghh!. Of course, we could also leave such actions that involve them aside, but that might have dire consequences of its against foes we cannot leave aside.

Because some of our foes? Unlike the Space Marines we faced, some of them just can't be convinced or reasoned with.
Sure, connection would apply to those domains, and yes in some circumstances a permanent Connection miracle could absolutely screw us over, you are correct.

That does not negate that the vast majority of the time its either a net neutral or a massive boost to our abilities on each and every bloody round, unlike merely gaining a couple of options early. Over all, I suspect that Elevating Connection will be an enormous benefit to our followers, as again, it means additional +20 minimum, to +50, or perhaps even more points to our actions each an every round, an effect that will only grow in usefulness as our cult grows larger.
It's not a +10 to all our actions, as the Life domain doesn't give +10 to every action either. It's not that kind of mechanical advantage.
Yes it is, Alectai already confirmed that's exactly what it does. Life doesn't because its the first and it allows us to take actions in the first place.

This is fair, it is indeed a trade off.

Do keep in mind that Sorcery is also a very dangerous power. Even with the calmed warp, there's still a lot that can go wrong. Just as Elevation gives a chance for critfails on some actions due to shoehorning it in where it shouldn't be, Sorcery gives a chance to critfail on all actions containing any manpower tokens. Edit: hero actions.

Sorcery also gives a chance for Miracles on manpower tokens hero actions, Elevation gives a chance for Miracles on every action.

It was explicitly stated that it gives every action a favor token for Connection, a +10. The downsides are that it enables critfails where there shouldn't naturally be Connection, and the opportunity cost of not getting more domains. This was mentioned in the text and explicitly confirmed via discord.
Life doesn't give +10 because it's our first core domain, and as such is required to unlock any of the actions at all. Without any core domains, we're nut a warp god.

No, Alectai did confirm that it would be a +10 on every action where Connection would help, which is most of them. That's the benefit of Elevating domains: significant increase in direct power. The cost is that you restrict your own capabilities, because it's required to shove that domain onto everything now.

Where did he confirm this? I don't remember it in the thread.

Confirmation was on discord, but it is heavily implied by the text "That Domain is invoked for free on every action that it applies to." And then mentions that it applies to everything now.... whether we want it to or not.

Edit:the exact quote is
+10 to all actions effectively
With the caveat of "Stuff that it doesn't apply to gets it crowbarred in anyway because VM is a dumb idiot god who doesn't know how not to push the button"
"And this can cause critfails"
Of course, it can also cause crit successes

While I understand the need for Sorcery and the appeal of Elysium, we DO need to prepare for the inevitable attack, our own efforts to expand, etc.

[ ] Power of Tomorrow.
-[ ] Earth: The power of soil, stone, and everything in between. Mastery of Earth has great benefits in terraforming and drawing forth natural resources, it also augments your Weaving by allowing you to concentrate sufficient nutrients in one place to produce megaflora scale creatures.
-[ ] Expansion: Select two Associated Domains that you have previously passed up, the safe but boring choice.
--[ ] Sun
--[ ] Weather

Can someone explain why this is a bad idea?

The lack of Sorcery is a big deal, especially since now we're at a level where we have Daemons for our followers to summon.

I do really love the Sun domain. The utility of Weather is less clear to me, though.

Well it's not a bad idea. That plan would give us more domains to play with, but getting Elysium and Sorcery have their own benefits that also help with defense. Elysium protects our civilians and given that we've only just established control over a planet with a population of 10 million, every person is important. Sorcery lets our followers have better access to our domains. Up to this point, it's been only VM who's been able to enact her magic. Sorcery would let our followers access that.

Weather would give us lightning and allow us to interdict planetary landings with massive storms. I guess it would also synergize with Earth to help with our growth.

Sorcery is a huge power multiplier as soon as we have enough followers and/or access to daemons, something we have now, since they can invoke our domains themselves, that should make something akin to lesser miracles possible without us directly investing in it (One possibility is that this pesky mortal limit on crits could go away).

Not sure about the best set up for our daemons but if we want something hard to kill, then may I suggest this image.

One word: Necrons.

By accessing this we could more easily work with Necrontyr lightning tech and all it's associated derivatives.

ok, that.. clarifies some details

And we absolutely need to take Earth, though what I read from comments about Elysium (though reasonable) sounds like trauma
aka we messed up, and now we overcompensate

The last plan idea, make of it what you will.

Or, y'know, we could get the Elevation and invoke the domain everywhere automatically anyway. We definitely want either Sorcery or Elevation since both provide significantly increased miracle chances, but it seems like Sorcery might require hero actions to count whereas Elevation happens everywhere. Both introduce a chance for critfails though.

Still, the vote's pretty obviously lopsided. Let us hope the larger toolbox is worth losing raw power and guaranteed boosts.

--[X] Earth
--[X] Weather

Sun is tempting, but Elysium is so shiny.

This gives us control of everything on planet that counts as "natural" and guarantees safety for non-combatants. I'm also reluctant to add the possibility of Critical Fail outcomes that Sorcery would give us.

It's probably too late to stop the Peace+Earth+Magic plan, but I have to suggest it...

Approval vote:
[X] Plan Earth, Sun, and Elysium
