@Goldfish, how many new alchemical facilities are we opening in the 3rd month?
also, how many (if any) ACSES offices we opened in the 2nd/plan opening in the 3rd month?
@Crake, how many (if any) Legion training centres did we open in the 2nd month, and plan on opening in the 3rd?

I feel like I might be falling too deep down the track-keeping hole, but saying "yah, we did it" to every little detail isn't really the answer either, in the matters of security, at least those important IC..?
@Goldfish, any progress on the Tremorsense and the water-specialized Watchman-creatures?

I added the numbers for some Vigilants to be added to the Legions as you and Crake seemed to have agreed on.

Define "conquer".

Anyway, the most I foresee of this meeting if we're rebuffed initially is to threaten to levy sanctions and raise duties on Norvosi goods coming into our borders, up to outright threatening to enforce a trade embargo upon them, cutting them off from about two thirds of the ports in Essos.

Part MMMDLXXVII: Where the Ax Falls
Where the Ax Falls

Twenty Eight Day of the First Month 294 AC

You set the final report down carefully, it would not do to lose it. You have many, many questions about how mages marked with the axe of Norvos ended up fomenting rebellion and death in your realm, questions your investigators in Golden Fields would have had no way of answering. "Varys..." you call out to your familiar, waking her from her evening torpor.

"Who's burning?" she asks sleepily. It seems like you had let a bit more of your inner feelings on the matter bleed through than you intended.

"Hopefully no one," you reply honestly enough. "I need you to fly to the House of Mirrors to ask some questions for me. Some of them will be things that have been checked already, but it's best to make sure there weren't any misspoken words before we act on them."

The answers you get confirm what the Inquisition had already learned, the mages themselves are of Norvos and they are sincere in their desire to oppose you in the name of the Bearded God, though the ultimate architect of the scheme is shrouded from even the sharpest foresight. Good enough. You send word for your companions to join you.

"We are going to Norvos?" Dany asks as she swoops in on silvered wings, a slightly bemused Sandor entering in her wake. "Good, I wanted to have words with the priests about the way they treat some of their citizens."

Garin sighs from the corner, she shadows clinging to him as he steps towards the rectangle of light pouring through the study window. "They are not going to stop persecuting the followers of the Red God because we ask, not even if we have cause to cite diplomatic outrage."

"Then we will just have to persuade them to be merciful in the name of their god," your sister replies.

"Perhaps their god isn't merciful," Varys hisses from her perch.

"Then I guess we're going to have to persuade Him," Dany presses undaunted.

You clear your throat. "Plans to intimidate gods aside, someone in Norvos has been supporting bandits and rebels in the Eastern Flatlands, that should be our primary concern. There are enough fires to put out without neighboring states bringing out the rags and oil, and the people of the frontier deserve better than fighting an undeclared war."

At that Dany nods in agreement, though you have no illusion about her forgetting about the suppression of the Red Faith. Ser Richard, the first to arrive to your study once you had sent out the call, gives Cleagne what might be a commiserating look.

Before you can address the matter further Waymar and Tyene enter, resplendent in bronze and silver, bringing your numbers to what is likely to be counted a proper if sparse royal entourage to any who think numbers matter in such things. Fixing in mind an arcane token left on the outskirts of Norvos by some nameless trader when your realm barely stretched across the Stepstones you will yourself and your companies across the seas and hills, east far beyond the borders of your realm.

***

The city upon the banks of the Noyne rises proudly above the dark forests of oak, pine, and beech, its rough-hewn contours as though carved directly from the limestone of the hills, though you do not mistake that for a lack of artistry or sophistication. The city has long been a stopping point for caravans crossing the empty lands to its west and south, and for the centuries since the Doom the only true riverine power to oppose the bandits and raiders that made their home among the tumbled stones of the Rhoynar and from these things it has grown rich. If Norvos is austere than it it by design not necessity, by the will of its bearded masters.

"So what now? Do we just show up in front of their new temple demanding to speak to the High Priest or whoever is in charge to answer for the brigands?" Waymar asks, from the tone it is clear he would much prefer to do so over trying to chart the paths of subtle diplomacy in a land where none of you know either the language nor customs, and being fair there is some wisdom in the thought. You are here to deliver a rebuke after all, not make friends.

"We could use those letters of introduction Uncle Doran gave us to get a foot in the door with Mellario's kin." Tyene does not call the Prince of Dorne's estranged wife 'aunt' and little wonder, for she had left back to the land of her birth when Tyene was barely out of leading strings. "She might not have much love of Dorne, but her House and many of their close allies have trading ties with Dorne all the way back to Nymeria's daughter, calling back to friendship with Ny Sar so the tales say."

What do you do?

[] Deliver an ultimatum directly to the High Priest of Norvos at once, if he is not at the temple currently under construction someone there will no doubt be able to find him

[] Make use of Prince Doran's contact to get some sense of the city's politics and who might have sent mages to aid bandits and rebels in your realm

[] Write in

I added the numbers for some Vigilants to be added to the Legions as you and Crake seemed to have agreed on.
I'll get those taken care of this evening or tomorrow.

I'm thinking of just slapping the Aquatic template on a Vigilant Briar for the water-based Watchmen.

Always get intel first.

I'm not particularly excited about this digression from the "we are all but in the next month-vote", but I guess needs must be.

Delivering an ultimatum without even knowing the lay of the political land first seems... tricky.

In the sense that there might be unintended consequences yes, but it would not be complex to do.

*Viserys walks in front of the temple and turns into a dragon*: "I would speak with the master of this place."

There might be some panicked attempts to kill him but he is reasonably sure such improvised efforts would not do much.

No point walking in blindly, and if we need to deliver a sharp rebuke, we can always waltz in later.

Here's an edited version of the chapter, @DragonParadox.

[X] Deliver an ultimatum directly to the High Priest of Norvos at once, if he is not at the temple currently under construction someone there will no doubt be able to find him

It's about time for another installment of the Adventures of Bonebreaker and Rhango, the Most Interesting Whorse in the World and his Pet Human.

[X] Duesal
I would vote to assign Wyla on an action there, only to see the nerdy Nightmare and the macho Istehaq interact.

[X] Deliver an ultimatum directly to the High Priest of Norvos at once, if he is not at the temple currently under construction someone there will no doubt be able to find him

Fuck Mellario and fuck Norvos. Let's just get to threatening them already. The worst that happens is a fight and we have the people here to take on a small army.

The point of doing a probe first is that we want to know if the High Priest is just a patsy who has literally no power over this (as all puppets wouldn't) or if there's a better place to put our ire toward.
