Would it be possible to get a refund if we return the familiar to Heronious? Because if so...

[X] Refund and discretely leave Hellven

I really don't feel like getting involved with Hellven's inter-politics at this time.
We already have enough stuff to do in the immediate and near future as it is.

I'm a bit confused about why people think he's not Lawful Evil. The defining feature about him is that he isn't driven insane by all his visions, not that he's particularly benevolent.
Yeah, Lawful Evil is fine. Malarys is a great example of compatible Lawful Evil.
Heronious hasn't risen above his Evil nature, but instead overcome the insanity common to his breed of Devil and tempered the innate Diabolic drive to be a dick to everyone.

There isn't anything else we need to put out time toward for the remainder of the month, so spending a few days (though I don't expect it to take that long) wouldn't put us behind.

But wait! What about the Mimic?!?! We gotta get his number, seeing as how he might need a new passport with his patron now revealed..,

HAHAHAHAHAHA... oh wait you're serious. With the way this quest goes?
It wouldn't surprise me at all if this side-quest spawns its own plot-hooks that would need to be delegated to either our companions or vassals in order to be completed.
While that makes for interesting reading it does not make for a task that can be completed in just a few days.

[X] Offer your aid to Heronious in exchange for access to the final tome

If only because I have to know how the story ends. Well make bank off it in the fae market.

Unfortunately I think we are going to have to leave it at two updates today guys. I have spent the last several hours (which I was not snatching time to write here) writing the thing I perhaps hate the most, academic work in a field I have no interest and less qualification in, specifically communication and advertising

For anyone interested how I came by this headache a friend of my mother's asked if I could translate her kid's dissertation. I said 'sure translation's easy'

Come today I get a bunch of readings in English and am asked to 'please summarize them' the deadline is tomorrow.

What could I do? I hammered something together... and now have to sleep off a headache.

Moral of the story, make sure someone has all the stuff they want translated before volunteering to do the translating

If you want, you can post it up here and we can help you out with the translation.

It's done. It's just I was expecting Romanian to English translation and then today 'here do this chunk of work for me'. I would probably feel guiltier about the rush job I did if I did not know the kid's mother was doing most of the stuff in Romanian for her and she's not in the field either, even farther than me really being a math teacher.

Ah, this reminds of back when I was in college the first where I agreed to help a buddy write a paper if he covered my end of the pizza and beer money for a weekend of boozing. Come Sunday night when I had to write it (while still hungover), because it was due on Monday morning, it turned out to be a 10 page paper on comparative religion. Zoroastrianism vs Christianity, IIRC.

It was around that time that I started cutting back on alcohol...

Any reason we can't offer sanctuary for service in our realm, pretty sure if we unveil here we have the kind of rep that would have the entire group take us seriously. That way we get more then offered and we dodge a completely useless fight.

Fifth Day of the First Month 294 AC

Waymar has some powerful quantum damsel/princess shit going on, like always.

In the future I can see us sending him to resolve issues merely to be able to engage them in familiar and favourable terms.

Minister: My Lord, the drought continues in the East and weather magic can only do so much.

Viserys: Send Waymar.

Some time later, Viserys arriving in the East.

Viserys: Ahh, my lady, let us discuss terms.

Newly Genesised Princess of Eastern Drought: Wut?

Waymar: "Viserys, you can't just negotiate--"

Viserys: "Oh, are you complaining? Should I kidnap this one?"

Waymar: *sigh* "No."

Viserys: "I haven't kidnapped an anthropomorphized weather pattern with royal status yet. Is this the day, Waymar?"

Princess: "Don't I get a say in this?"

Waymar: "Not really... you'll also be convinced it was your own idea."

Princess: "Don't be preposter--"

...

Princess: "You know, Sorcerer's Deep is sounding really nice right now."

Viserys, smugly glancing at Waymar: "Eh? EHHH?"

Waymar the Sour: "Let's go home."

A thought: if things don't work out and he wants his Familiar back, we can make an Ice Assassin of it and immediately bookify the Ice Assassin.
We can do this without him knowing, and without him being able to divine that we did it. Excellent.

Part MMMDXLVI: Uneasy Remembrance
Uneasy Remembrance

Twenty Fifth Day of the First Month 294 AC

The gilded devil follows your host's advice, dramatically melting into a flash of gold with a roar of distant flames. You do not speak until you have made certain to the best of your abilities that they are truly gone.

"I have not arrived here to aid you Far-Seer, but neither am I inclined to leave you to face it alone after this peaceful auction was so barbarously disrupted. You say it was by the lord of this place?" You shake your head and sigh as though in sadness and disbelief, though you do not try to project the former too hard. "I would know if the Lord of Heaven's Shore is the sort to employ thugs and snatchers that I might protect myself as I would in other unsavory places."

"If you think this place is not unsavory, your tongue has grown as numb as a hana-sniffer's," Kimu snorts beside you as she motions for her guards to watch the door.

"And I am of course interested in a chance to bid for the lore that the honorable Echyr did not have a chance to put forth," you interject smoothly. "Lore is not like bright gems or bound sorcery, yes? It can be shared and not lessened in the doing."

"A secret less transforms the world like a pebble upon still waters, and in the ripples might another stone of the same sort fail to find purchase," the diabolic seer replies. "Still, the word of a witness not known to be an associate of mine could be of some use... if you are willing to lower your wards as it customary for judicial examination here."

Unlike the earlier sigh the grimace is wholly unfeigned.

"Ah... I see, or rather I do not see, but I can guess well enough," the devil chuckles softly. "You are capable of spells of the Ninth Circle, yes?"

"I am, though I have but recently come into the power, as mortals count such things." That should hopefully help explain how you can be an unknown to the wider Spheres, even to some familiar with the Opaline Vault. It is a well known fact that mortals can grow in power with dizzying swiftness by the measure of deathless spirits, 'trying to outrun their own deaths' the oft disparaging saying goes.

"Excellent, then you would not be lightly discounted," the devil mused. "I need someone to take that..." he motioned to the still amber-trapped handmaiden devil, "to the Fortress of Eternal Vigil. I would go myself, but the matter of my 'death' complicates the procedure of handing in a prisoner, and for various reasons others among our present company would not be welcome. If you would be content to briefly play the part of 'the greedy earth-born' fleeing with the prisoner in the hopes of getting a ransom from them, then the Blessed Guard will not know to seek you. Once the garrison has been apprised of this outrage, I am quite entertain it shall be settled quickly."

"Before I answer yea or nay, I first have a question of my own. If I am supposed to act against the Lord of Heaven's Shore, then I would know what quarrel he supposedly has with you that he would plot your demise," you ask cautiously.

Ser Richard's posture hardly changes, but you cans sense approval of this at least from his veiled form, if not the notion of embroiling yourself in the local politics at all.

"The book you seek, the memoirs of birth and death, of passage and becoming... some of them are Ezhekidich's own, and like many of his kindred in this age, he would rather not recall those most ancient days, much less have them known to another. I still do not know who could have revealed that I possessed such knowledge, but I am certain the guilty party will rise to the top eventually, like oil upon water," he finishes, almost in a whisper.

Another reason why he is not trusting any of his allies with the task, the words are unsaid, but hardly unknown.

Do you accept the task?

[] Yes, escort the gylou to the Fortress of Eternal Vigil

[] No, stay instead to help confront the Blessed Guard

[] Write in

OOC: Pretty straightforward update this time, it would have worked well last night, if only I could focus to write at all.

[X] Yes, escort the gylou to the Fortress of Eternal Vigil

Seems simple enough. Kinda sad this dude is going through all this just to avoid people knowing some embarrassing deaths though.

It's like Spongebob hiring a hitman just because he suspects you have embarrassing photos of him from the Christmas party.
