Practically speaking it is unlikely that the new sword is a Courtblade though.
He needs a weapon that allows Weapon Finesse. THere is a +5 difference between his DEX and STR.
Maybe we can adjust the new sword though, or if it is a real artifact it can possibly change itself a bit to fit his hand better.

DP stated it was the same as Purity in design during the update.

More fate bullshit? Perhaps...

Purity isn't sentient so there's less problems with hanging her up on a wall for later, maybe when he himself has kids to pass it on to... or yes, specializing it for Fiends and this sword for Fey/Winter.

Oh, switching swords to face different enemies, and having some magic without being a full caster?

Waymar is going to be a Witcher!

"Just so, he was not the first of our rune-carvers to do so in secret, but he was the first of the kings," the specter replied. "He vowed that he were but given the power to do so he could forge a blade unmatched able to slay even he greatest of their champions, he made a wager against them in truth, that if the blade, this blade," she motioned to the sword before her,"could slay any champion They might send then They were to take the sword as payment and leave him the knowledge and the power so gleamed."
They were supposed to take the sword as payment... on the condition that they left behind the knowledge the ancient Thenn king desired.

The Thenn King is long dead, and his soul forfeit. I'm not sure who gets the sword anymore, or if the Others will just dump esoteric Winter lore on us and take the blade once the challenge is concluded.

Technically it would be the Runelord necessary to make the blade, so even if they decided to give us the lore instead we could probably just forge a new one. Or we might get the Kong's soul back and he can do it. Kinda depends on how the wager was worded.

It really just depends on whether or not the bargain can be considered completed on the Others' part. If for example whatever purpose they put the King's soul toward means they can no longer make good on their end of the bargain and they were using a faulty deal to collect souls of powerful champions, Waymar keeps the blade AND gets the girl.

I don't trust this thing.
Reeeeeally don't trust it.

Have you ever heard the tale of Darth Plageus the wise Arthas Menethil?
This sword may just well be his Frostmourne.
:/

Does it matter?

We are here on the doorstep of Winter, fully expecting a big-deal Other interrupt anyway.
Why else did we bring three warships and a load of dragons with us?

If they want the sword they can try and take it, we'll either try to beat what they send, or flee. Either case keeping the blade.

Can someone point me to this update?

I havent caught up and theres something weird going on in the threadmarks
It starts here:

The Long Breath

It doesn't matter, no.

@DragonParadox If Waymar doesn't say 'Come, dance with me then' next update, I will be sorely disappointed. :V
I'm kinda hoping for a "This hand of mine crackles with an awesome power!" right before Waymar unleashes a Quickened Maximized Born of the Three Thunders Lightning Lance, then proceeds to Channel another Lightning Lance through a full attack.

Mine was specifically a canon callback... or I guess it would be call forward?

Anyway I like the symmetry to him defiantly challenging an Other champion with the same words that he greeted death with in another timeline.

Hmm, @DragonParadox, just because he's going to duel that doesn't mean he won't get a many buffs as he can beforehand, right? Even if the enemy need to take a turn t dispell it all that's still one extra action for him.

A favorite of these evil enemies is to dispel either the Mindblank for Enchantment, the Bracers for Death Effects, and Dispels of buffs so they are more murderable by a melee monster.

So depending on what enemy he's going up against, yes, expect dispels, he's quite well geared for most foes not to even try. He's also got contingent healing and wards in place.
