Yeah, it still just kinda feels murder-hobo to do that.
Also, uh, what do we do about the whole marriage thing? I forget what Waymar worked out with Tyene, but she might have a problem with that. Or, considering she's Dornish, Waymar might.

1. Is there away to know what the Champion of Winter is? Could the Ice Maiden tell us?
2. Can Waymar be buffed to high heaven if the fight is chosen?
3. If the fight is not chosen could we soul-trap the specter?
4. If the fight is not chosen could we use one of our two Unravellings on the specter and loot her and give her a new body?
5. What is the enchantment on that sword?

EDIT: I really want to have Waymar take the challenge and demolish it from the inside. I'm pretty sure this is the path to his first Mythic Rank. A solo shounen duel with a Champion of Winter, just like Ser Richard had a solo shounen duel with a Champion of Hell.

Waymar should be very buffed already, running every useful spell with a duration longer than one round per caster level. Between that and his gear, he's as ready as he can be.

It's likely the maiden would just be freed in death if Waymar wins, no marriage required.

Undead are immune to mind effecting spells so that's impossible.

Assuming the sword is an upgrade over Purity, at least when used against the Others and their minions, he can easily switch between them. He has a Ring of Arming he can use to swap them, or just keep one tucked in his Handy Haversack when not in immediate use.

I don't want to use an Unravelling for her. Those things are really precious, and she's just a random person Waymar met (who might turn out to be a Wight with high Bluff).

This seems extraordinarily well-suited to Waymar.
If this had been another group I would be against that gamble.
But we gotta stay in character.

Ah, that's no fun. I mean, if Waymar's going to be a shounen protagonist it's only proper he ends up Engaged to a fair princess he saved from being locked in a tower—or underground hall, as the case may be. Then there's the interesting geography of a dude from the Vale, which is basically in the center of Westeros, having a girl from either end of the continent. Also he would technically be a king, which is hilarious.
I'm not saying they should get married of course, just that if this lady manages to stick around afterwards, it would be funny if she still planned to honor the oath, and Waymar had to deal with harem shenanigans as a result. It's only proper, after all.
 
wait a sec, this place has been burried for a hell of a long time and the Thenns didn't know about this place how would other would have been champions have gotten in here
 
Waymar's Mythic Rank is nigh!

It's super fitting that it'll be against the things that slaughtered him in canon.

Possibly even one of the very same Others.

He might also just gift his old sword to one of his brothers, they are knights after all, and by the time his kids are old enough to use a sword, I expect him to be level 20 with multiple mythic ranks, which is a point where he can get them even better blades than purity.
