I would like to continue the discussion of broadening our cultivation base. I do think it might be strategic error to not fix that before we take to the Soldier's Step but we might also literally not have the time to do so.
(Edit: at least before this trial comes and goes)
I'm game, was too busy at work to contribute earlier.
One thing that we need to clarify first tho -
But you still have questions. "Excuse me, but if I may ask, what do you mean by improper foundation?"
This time, Jai Fa finishes chewing before she answers you. "It's something we learned from Elder Yixue yesterday," she states. "About the drawbacks of exclusive cycling. To draw on only one Natural Wonder is to attune your anam to it's aspects. Doing so without thought is to set your path in stone before you've even taken a step."
Jai Shouxi swallows and continues his twins thought. "So everyone out there? They're filling up on earth, water, and mud. Should they be able to forge their way to Soldier, their anam will be attuned to those three aspects. While it might benefit some, I have doubts that they all wish to be Mud artists in the future."
-what exactly does it mean to be attuned to an aspect?
Does it mean you can only use Anam of the type, or merely that you can cycle/use/etc that type of Anam more easily than any others? Does being attuned to one Anam mean you get a penalty using anam of a contrary nature, like water and fire?
Time is a broad concept, and doesn't seem to have the kind of opposing or clashing aspects like fire/water, light/dark, etc... So If attuning gives negative penalties to opposing aspects... time is pretty good there.
Our worst case scenario is attuning locking out all other aspects, meaning we can ONLY cycle time Anam... which would be a serious penalty because time anam is rare.
On the one hand that means finding sources for it will be difficult and there will be fewer techniques available for it. On the other hand, it means that there will be fewer techniques designed to be used against it, or even methods developed to defend against it.
Also, our nature as a Charm crafter who can make a technique of any aspect means that locking ourself isn't the same level of handicap it would be to anyone else.
@Vesvius can you give us any more info about attuning or is it something we need to learn about in character?
That's what I'm leaning towards too, but I feel like these last couple votes have been trains and I want to make sure that we have sufficient discussion before we leap into any actions.
True...
🤔 We have 8 actions before the 14th day. Ideally, we should try to finish the charm before the 13th so we can spend that day completing the Soldier's Step. If our rolls go well, we should be able to finish the construction with 2 more actions, less if we get lucky. We should also budget 1 action to watching the duel, and at least 3 towards cycling/charging the charm...
That really doesn't leave any extra time for exploring, unless we get a crit on the next construction roll and finish the charm.
I'd say
@KreenWarrior has the right of it, if you want to explore... choose that instead of sparring today cuz it's likely the last chance we'll get before day 14.
