Magical Girl Escalation Taylor (Worm/Nanoha)

[X] Vampiric Ray – Forcibly drain another's mana to partially refill your Linker Core. If target is not a mage, they are left permanently weakened and somewhat more frail.

I find it sort of funny that Vista, the ward who constantly complained about being constrained by the PRT's babying, left the wards and the first public thing she takes part in is the decapitation of the entire Simurgh branch of the Fallen. Nobody can ever know about the test run.

[X] Singularity – Create a gravity well to pull enemies into a single spot for easy shooting.

Guys, Earth Bet barely has any mages and this is the kind of spell that will make our reputation even worse.

Draining mana is basically useless unless we move to a planet with a lot of mages.

Whelp, what a way to make an impression. I can imagine parents of those traumatized children being not happy with both Arcana and PRT, because this whole... heads thing could be avoided at least in a public place.

Also I like pretty much all spells left, so I will simply randomly pick something.

[X] Lion's Pelt – Coat yourself in an additional defensive forcefield three times as strong as your Knight Armor for a short time.

I prefer to improve defenses at the moment.

Also you know what I would love to see? Protectorate/PRT interlude with Chevalier and Miss Militia in. Just to read their reactions, knowing in what kind of slaughter (because this was pretty much a slaughter) Missy participated in, even if she didn't personally commit the act.

Also I can imagine some villain groups running in terror seeing members of Arcana team after this... presentation.

Also Alexandria may deal with some mixed feelings and realization that character comparisons between her and Taylor are pretty spot on in some places.

Vampiric Ray should open up another option to charge Ragnarok.

I do recall there being a flashback of the original Calamity Witch using... I want to say Starlight Harvest? Some kind of AoE drain spell to fuel Ragnarok, anyways. I imagine Vampiric Ray eventually leads to that.

Holding off on voting for now, though if it turns out that Vampiric Ray or one of its upgrades can sap an Endbringer's strength then I'm all for it.

You have a point.

However, there are millions of people with Linker Cores, and this means millions of potential mages. The Dragonslayers had a mage, the Fallen had a mage during the Resort Raid, and the Adept kinda figured out magic long before Calamity Witch started giving people magic. Thus far, the only people Calamity teaches magic are not inclined to hurt people, but that knowledge will spread. In a few years, villian organizations will start getting magic. Possibly sooner. We need an

Also, we don't need to advertise our more dangerous spells. It is common for heroes to underplay their powers to seem less deadly, and it is very common for parahumans in general to keep an ace up their sleeve. We could keep it a team secret.

Finally, Vampiric Ray can be used in extreme circumstances to stop mana poisoning. The original Calamity Witch did so, and we might have to if we want to stop S class threats like the Endbringers.

Edit: grammar, and a little more explanation for my logic

Arcana has established dominance, but it would have been worlds for their relations with the Protectorate if they had set up something. Maybe a press conference?
After destroying the Fallen, they could have told people on PHO, shown pictures and video, then demand the bounties. Involving Dragon and then having her word to back Arcana would also work.
For some reason after reading that incident, I couldn't help but think "Conflict for the conflict drive! Data for Shards!"
Then I remembered there were no living parahumans involved in the incident.

for the vote

I'm interested in if this spell can be used against a Endbringer.

I am still writing when I can, as you can see by this update, but I ask for a little patience while we're still dealing with this pandemic. But in the meantime, here's a new chapter.
Take all the time you need, and stay safe. We'll be here.

[] Burn the Sinners, part 2
-[] Death from above. Lethal Solar Wrath the compound, then deal with any survivors.
Ah, so it is time for The Culling. This'll be messy.

The grassy yard where Kayleigh was stationed is alight with crackling bolts of electricity, and as you watch a clump of something or other explodes into wet chunks. That makes you grimace; one of the benefits of using fire is that most of the wounds you make are instantly cauterized. Whatever Kayleigh did doesn't have that advantage.
Time to speed dial a counselor after this. I doubt she is inured to people...exploding into chunks.

Five flashes of light, and when the afterimages fade you hear the visitors all gasp in shock and horror. Several of them pull out their cell phones, guaranteeing that this is going up on PHO. The agent sitting at the desk can only stare wordlessly at the evidence sitting eye-level with him.

Said evidence in this case being a row of seventeen severed heads, their masks still affixed to their faces but stained with dried blood and ash.
We warned him, more than once. Up to him to deal with the civvies he just traumatized. *shrug*

Thank you for spending your little free time to give us this update, Silently.

As for spells, since we've shown something of an increased tendency to go melee:

[X] Lion's Pelt – Coat yourself in an additional defensive forcefield three times as strong as your Knight Armor for a short time.

We shall see what SW says. I personally will keep my vote even if Vampiric Ray is useless on Endbringers, if only because it provides much more utility than the other spells. Every other option is useful, but they only improve existing capabilities. Vampiric Ray can let us recharge during a pitched battle, which is one of Calamity Witches biggest weak points.

Barrage and Sabotage shift enhance existing offensive abilities.
Bind Mine and Singularity can pin enemies down.
Vampiric Ray recharges Calamiy's mana.
Lion's Pelt enhances existing defense.

Edit: added the summary on spells

IIRC earlier discussion about this spell claimed this was an (eventual) anti-Endbringer measure. Sold!

I'm curious if Strong Shield and Shell Barrier will stack with Lion's Pelt
Taylor can have all three of them running at once, yes.
Barrage will lets us shoot multiple targets with Rust Shooter in a way that is easier than just casting it multiple times (I may need to reread the earlier chapters to see how Rust Shooter functions, because four Flare Shooters is nothing to Taylor, and that doesn't have Barrage.)
Rust Shooter is an entirely different spell than Flare Shooter, and right now Taylor can only have one Rust Shooter at a time. Otherwise I wouldn't be offering this as a spell.

I mean, there's nothing stopping you from casting it on an Endbringer

I really want to be able to recharge, and I don't feel too bad about permanently weakening the people we use it on—we've established ourselves as people not be be fucked with already, this will mean any enemy who gets away won't be as strong after, so they'll be less able to fight against other heroes. If this works on endbringers or can start a path to something that does, that's amazing, but it's not necessary for my vote.
