Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

so lets look at social first:

both of those stats are quite bad, but we cant really boost both. so what is more important to get to a decent level? good social insight (soc. perception) or being less vulnerable to others social techs (poise)? i think for now poise is better? it isnt like a perception boost would be big enough to let her look through all those people at the party. on the other hand, more poise makes it less likely for her to screw up, even if the talisman doesnt boost her to peer level
If she is somewhat vulnerable to the social techniques of the other disciples, so what? What'd they get by using it on her? More importantly, what would she loose? Social Perception isn't really to help her play courtier, it's to help her learn empathy and understand the actions of others. Poise makes her less of a risk but it doesn't actually help her develop socially. Edit: as much.

I mean, fluffwise I'd say that LQ thinking about perception is trying to develop Hanyi's empathy, while poise is trying to develop her self-control and presentation? Both are important, and both work I think... Heck, poise might even work better for Hanyi trying to look respectable.

i disagree that getting a social talisman has nothing to do with the social game/playing courtier. In fact, if you dont care about that part, I would recommend not voting for a social talisman at all (i would recommend a combat option instead), because the way I see it, events like the Cai gathering and other political interactions is what a social talisman would be mostly aimed towards.

and while i agree that hanyi should learn more empathy in the future, i disagree that this item is the way to do it. mechanically, the item would not actually boost her empathy, it would just make her notice more details about people. Hanyi's problem is that she just doesnt care about those people and being able to read them better doesnt mean she will learn to care about them. Instead I think, this is better adressed down the line with several character development arcs

Gonna push against the whole social thing. Combat equipment is significantly more important. Particularly since Hanyi spends a lot of her combat time in Ling Qi's fights, which are dangerous for her.

And like, "buy a talisman to trigger character growth" is silly. It should happen when it's appropriate in the narrative, not by mechanics. If Yrs needs an excuse to hang it off of, Hanyi dressing to her personality and performing publicly in a cultivator party are plenty already.

I'm not going to argue over what, though I think resist is unnecessary, but something to help her keep up in combats, at least. Please.

most relevant to our troubles. Especially the bolded bits.

You know, I would assume that what Meizhen just did (sharing of the foundations of ther Insights) is a pretty intimate thing for cultivators.
Yeah, it's laying bare who they are in the most fundamental way they can. And not only does it leave them vulnerable emotionally, I imagine it could be rather dangerous as well if they tell the wrong person.

Changed my mind, Hanyi focusing on Hanyi over others probably fits more into the Yuki-onna theme. She's more about understanding people as pertaining to how they view her than caring about who they are in general. Winter doesn't care who is freezing in its embrace and when a beautiful winter spirit lures people to their cold graves she is more concerned with how they see her than the reverse. This is probably the inspirational source of her self centeredness and desire for fame as Yrs wrote it.

yeah. I would not be surprised if there exists social assassins who seek to wreck a person's cultivation base by guessing about their insights, or maybe just repeatedly prod a flaw or heart demon.

May even be part of the reason why social gatherings tend to default towards wearing a generic social mask, to give as little cues to 3rd party observers as possible.

Pushing back against these votes for social.

"Sis, that guy, he said he could sell your songs too, right?" Hanyi asked. "I saw you using that stone thingy to record."

"Yes," Ling Qi said slowly. "I wasn't selling that though."

"Well I wanna sell some songs! That way I can have stones myself, and buy pretty dresses and jewelry without having to get them from Big Sis," Hanyi said in a rush, leaning forward.

Ling Qi blinked and immediately felt a pang of guilt. "Hanyi, we can go shopping sometime if you like, it's just been very busy lately."

"But I wanna get my own stuff, you worry about enough things," Hanyi huffed. "C'mon, will you please talk to the guy?"
Hanyi has expressed a desire to have pretty dresses and jewelry. "Pretty" is a social construct, as much as it is a personal aspect.

Do we want to get her something that is both conventionally pretty, and socially influencing? Or just something that is pure utility, and leave the pretty dresses for Hanyi's own purchases?
