The Path Unending (A Cultivation Quest)

[X] Plan Well Rounded Artisan
-[X] Strength +1, Dexterity +1, Constitution +1
-[X] Resolve +2, Wits +1
-[X] Empathy +1

This would give us: Str 2, Dex 3, Con 2; Int 2, Res 3, Wit 2; App 1, Cha 2, Emp 2. That would make us deft of hand, reasonably well-rounded physically, quite bright and mentally astute, and reasonably sociable, even if we're of average looks.

For a craftsman, that's an excellent start. Especially since we can hopefully find a way to pull off Legendary Moonlight Sculptor means of gaining power and skill so we can keep crafting and surviving in this cultivation-world.

Anyways, having 3 in Dex helps not only with finesse for crafting but also with fighting, and 3 in Res should hopefully aid cultivation. The rest being 2 is just to ensure we're physically and mentally well-rounded and thus in a decent position to craft anything we set our minds to.

So... whatever anyone votes for, please do not dump any Strength or Constitution because they help govern spiritual power. As does Resolve and Wits, which are also needed for cultivating quickly. Dexterity is needed for finesse and for physical combat, and having Empathy helps defend against social-attacks... Appearance doesn't seem to do anything. So, I figure having ourself be well-rounded is a good idea because it means we are harder to bully on any level. We're reasonably good at a bunch of things, and that's sufficient for an Artisan's Son whose strength comes from making charms and the like which they may then utilize.

What my plan results in:

Talents:
Physical Talent (avg Physicals): 2.33
Mental Talent (avg Mentals): 2.33
Social Talent (avg Socials): 2
Spiritual Talent ((Str + Res + Emp)/3): 2.33

Stress:
Physical (half Con): +1 box
Mental (half Wit): +1 box
Social (half Emp): +1 box

Anam Threshold ((Res + Con) * Spiritual Talent): 5*2.33 = 11.667

Damage Threshold (4 * (Con + Wit + Cha) / 3): 8

From the looks of things, Resolve, Constitution and Empathy are super-damn important for cultivators, but Dex appears to rule gaining Tempo in a fight... and is also liable to be the attribute our crafting skills will rely on for being well-made.

Do the Attributes round up or down for stress boxes? I'm wondering if an extra box in social stress might be worth it given how much newbie cultivators tend to have to deal with being messed with by the nobles and such in the training stage.

[X] Plan Sun God
-[X] Strength +2
-[X] Constitution +2
-[X] Dexterity +1
-[X] Resolve +1
-[X] Wits +1

Basically, I want to become a devotee of the sun, sculpting both self and environment into a greater receptacle of its glory!

All rounding needed for any stat is done to the closest whole number. So if after math, you're at 0.49 or lower, it goes down. 0.5 or higher, it goes up.

Plan: Soft against Hard

Sounds good to me. We have no information on what those stats are for or whether min-maxing is wise, so I won't think too long on this.

...With none of the social graces needed to properly evangelize or deal with others who would need to use our work? We're an artisan's son - our family's built upon making things and selling them to others to use, or to use ourself. If we don't have some social skills to work with, we're gonna be screwed over by any smooth-talker who'll fleece us of our hard-work.

I'll also note that some of the descriptions in the Example Spoilers given in the Mechanics post implies "2" is what a typical, average cultivator has in their attributes, judging by the descriptions in the combat-example.

I like the spread of the plan but I mostly like the +3 to resolve because I have a feeling it will be the most important stat. Being high in resolve will make us the most dedicated which will make a tedious process like cultivation easier.

I don't want to be a preacher, at least in the traditional sense. Notice I said environment and self, others are distinctly not a part of that. Like the sun, we care not how others view us. They do not bow to our will because they want to, but because they can do nothing else. Magnificent power, that makes the world bow by simple existence.

...You realize we're not a Noble, right? We're an Artisan's Son, and that means we do need to care about social stuff. If we're viewed in a bad light, then it'll be harder for us to trade for resources we'll need to cultivate. No man's an island, and we're not so gifted or lucky that we can just ignore others in order to gain the strength needed to do the stuff you're thinking we can do. We will need resources in order to craft and resources in order to cultivate. Getting those resources means dealing with people... and if we don't give a shit how others view us, or don't have any skill/desire to deal with people, then we're gonna be pretty screwed in our struggle to gain strength.

We need some decent social attributes, and only having Charisma 2 doesn't seem sufficient when having App/Emp at 1 would make our Social Talent 1.33... Which rounds down to 1. And that's abysmal, especially since Empathy is also vital to the calculation of Spiritual Talent which I'm sure you'll agree would be crucial to helping us "make the world bow to our existence" and make others "bow to our will" "because they can do nothing else"

You might wanna take a look at my post where I summarize some of the calcs that go into the derived statistics... Empathy is kinda important, and you assign nothing to it. Especially since it's needed to defend against social attacks, allowing the words of others to wash over us like water over a stone. Similarly, Resolve is super-useful - especially for the sort of image you're trying to present as someone determined and driven to force the world to bow to our will - and you're only having it at 2.

Seems legit, can't go wrong with more Anam capacity. And like as not they'l be plenty of guys willing to punch stuff in exchange for crafted goods no?

I just don't find strength all that important, while appearance has alread being said to be the basis for socialization, not only how you look but also how you show yourself. So, even for a combatant this could be important, if you want to intimidate, you'd go here, for causing a first impression or showing yourself with good etiquette or without fear, this is it. So yeah, this has me more interested than the well rounded.

It is quite important, actually. It not only helps determine your Physical Talent, but also your Spiritual Talent. And for cultivators, Spiritual Talent is exceedingly important...

Also, I suspect it's the attribute used for Warrior Techniques. It fits the triad of warrior-archer-defender.

Contrastingly, Appearance is only used for Social Talent and some techniques. Plus, the whole "how you present yourself" deal can also be chalked up to Charisma too. Charisma is more relevant for actually doing the intimidating , I imagine, as putting the fear of hell into someone doesn't need you to look appealing but have the charisma to enforce your will over others and talk them into pissing their pants with threats and the will to menace. Hell, actually interacting with people is more likely to be Charisma than Appearance - Appearance seems only useful for first glances and the Social Talent calculation, IMO.

this, 100% this. Start off well rounded and adapt to what stats we need later. We don't know what we really need now so going well rounded should work out for us. If we need to spam stuff into our Socials later great we can do that, same with other areas. But since we really don't know what we need and how nothing has been thrown at us yet start off well rounded.

Also @Vesvius was that 7 a d10 role, or was it predetermined.
