A pair of ancient nightmare dragons guard Aegon's dreams perhaps expecting Dany to attempt to contact him thus. A shadow dragon well into her fourth century had been spotted conversing with one of the priests and she might not be the only one of her brood you must face to take the shadow fortress, though you suspect if you take the hidden path Malisandre and Anu had plotted they will not notice you at first, allowing you to defeat the guardians once the fortress had already been gutted.
Damn. Ancient Nightmare Dragons. Two of them. And confirmation of that being an Old Shadow Dragon.

I wonder where Tiamat got the second Nightmare Dragon.
OOC: Just to be clear, the two nightmare dragons are both ancient, the shadow dragon is a mature adult. Not yet edited.
@DragonParadox, if the Shadow Dragon is well into her fourth century, that makes her Old. Unless this is supposed to mean building up to 400 years?

EDIT: Oooh, a possibility of even more Shadow Dragons.

I think that, in addition to gathering the Companions and other assets which will be involved, we should bring Rhaella and her group in the Reach home, at least for a few days. Not only will she be safer in SD, but the Seeker will be freed up to help us.

Agreed, all vital personnel should be under heavy guard until this operation is concluded.

Also I'm not entirely sure how I should feel about being right about a dreamlands trap being set for Dany. While the Ancient Nightmare Dragons are only CR 15, they're an absolute bitch to fight in the dreamlands.

[X] And so it begins...
-[X] Recall the Companions, Rhaella and her entourage, and our other forces who we expect to employ against the Golden Company and Tiamat's other forces. The Moonchaser will be readied for combat, along with the Wyverns, and our other servitors. Request Benerro's aid as well.
-[X] The process to begin moving the Worm should be started. We will refrain from activating it until necessary, but it should be readied for action as soon as possible.
-[X] Viserys will use the magic bedroll to restore his magic so that he will be at peak readiness should we need to act with little to no warning. While he rests, the books made from the captured mages will be further examined and their gear identified.

@DragonParadox that last comment about dealing with dragons really puts our position in regards to our dragon vassals into perspective. We already hold all the cards, so practically any deal we make is extremely generous by any standard. Meaning a dragon does not have to set their own price lest they overreach as they would normally in this situation where they are negotiating their services, deciding their contributions are worth a disproportionate amount of the spoils simply because the person they work with isn't guaranteed to want to fight them after all is said and done.

Whereas with us, the dragon keeps its own company (barring Amrelath who is trying to replicate what we did, but also discovering that those relationships are only as valuable as they weight them interpersonal-wise, not valued in gold alone) and we keep company with Archmages and high CR warriors garbed in a Kingdom's ransom in equipment each.

The Golden Company does not have the same leverage because while they have lots of high CR PCs, none of them trust each other enough to present a truly united front.

So, are ya'll gonna let me nuke the Golden Company? Pretty please with murderous cherries on top? 🍒

I get all tingly when our enemies fully respect us and the danger we represent. Makes me feel accomplished, even if all I did was wave enthusiastically while more tactically minded people planned the slaughter.

Speaking of.

I'm in favor of pulling no punches.

Also no trying to capture any of the clerics save for F!Aegon. That'd just be asking for failure and then having to deal with Mind Blanked Tiamat Clerics loose on the world.

@Goldfish I do not see the point in nuking the camp. I can see a bunch of ways that would hurt us politically in Yi Ti in general, since I do not imagine any of the locals appreciate battle magic on that scale being tossed around, even with just cause, and further more it's just not... necessary. We have our priority targets. Once we get them, we can scythe through the lesser priests. The mages will almost certainly get away to a degree, but that is... acceptable. Not great, but we can overcome it.

I feel we are also already bringing enough biggatons with us that it would render a lot of our preparations completely moot if it works, and completely assfuck us if it gets countered by Divine Fiat.

@Goldfish Also, please refer to @egoo's list and actually pick a selection of PCs and assets so that both @DragonParadox and the rest of us are actually somewhat aware of what we have available and who can be sent to do what.

Edit: Also, for the duration of all of this, always pair Dany with Viserys, I am paranoid as fuck about Rebuking.

We already know that OJ's people have been preparing a fire-based ritual to deal with the GC. They could end up taking the blame for our attack, but that's nothing I would be willing to bet on.

I do have some concern that they might pop off the ritual while we are attacking the GC, which could catch our people in the effect. That's one of the main reasons I would rather avoid a fight there entirely and just remove the camp as a consideration at all.

If y'all are against that, though, we have alternatives. Just need to make sure we don't get nuked by OJ.

I'll update the plan with those folks once I get back to my computer.

I want to bust out Balerion against the Golden Company.

@Goldfish cleanest solution would be to divine if a widescale magic will be worked by people working for the Orange Justice Dance during the fight.

Earlier it was agreed that battle-scale magics are too big on the divination radar not to ping, and I would say incinerating drakes and dragons, which are usually immune to their own shtick, wholesale... definitely counts.

@Crake, I've updated the plan to include preliminary combat forces. I used @egoo's list (thanks, dude!) as a basis, but removed quite a lot of those on it who I thought were either too weak or lacked the necessary mobility. We can only supply flight to so many people who don't possess it already or have the power to gain flight via their own magic, and there aren't many beings who can fight off an army all on their own. Maelor, Bronn, and Sarell aren't included because extracting them from the CoB for even a short time could be problematic and cause them and the shop issues.

This isn't going to be a battle of mundane armies, after all, but rather a clash of proverbial titans. We don't want to bring a lot of fodder who might be vaporized as simple collateral damage.

If there is anyone ya'll think should be added, let me know and we can hash it out.

A cadre of elite undead, maybe, to keep our casters from being bogged down by mundane troops and not make our martials literally drown in bodies and blood. The GC is callous enough to try swarm tactics, and while we could discourage them with some magic, it would be a needless distraction when all of their attention should be focused on the primary threats.

The Spyring group won't need much beyond a dedicated strike-team to take care of business, the raid on the camp will probably soak the majority of the screening force, and I would actually ensure there's at least a dozen Erinyes plus Mereth accompanying the team going into the Shadow Fortress, since it seems like a bad idea to send undead into that place, though I could be wrong, they are resistant to Rebuking I think? Not sure how much that matters, though Azel pointed out that if a high level lich is wasting time taking control of one Black Champion that is one turn not casting high level magic at a PC so I could be very wrong and you should go wild.

@Goldfish Besides Benerro, Riz'Neth would add a lot to that attack, what with his action economy.

Can't think of many more PCs who are in that ballpark though. Benerro is capable of casting Eighth Circle spells, so that's a definite yes.

Also, you better not go cheap on the buffing scheme. It's been a while since you went Full Ainz and wrote out a gigantic list of pre-battle buffs.

I wonder if calling Yrten, Siduri and their crew while riding fire whales is going to make this more epic, or we are not able to achieve that by means of adding even more awesome shit at this point.

@Goldfish, forces to add:

1. Riz'Neth, Serpentfolk Sorcerer of the Sixth Circle
2. Benerro, whatever level he is

Also please consider bringing the stronger sneaks against the clerics, like the Orphne Lord, Sharra Rogare, etc. Flashy forces are all well and good but there are quite a few mages to get and we want as many as possible to at the very least bleed before they flee.
