Magical Girl Escalation Taylor (Worm/Nanoha)

It's out of character for Laura to pick that name, I can totally see Kayleigh naming it that just for the old school anime reference and the trolling.

Way way way too late but I just realized Outlaw Star would have been something worth trying to make reference to for her Device. Unfortunately it probably wouldn't have been viable on Bet since it was made well after Kyushu was sunk.
Aleph imports that actually did well due to the novelty?

That's a lot better than either option in my opinion.

Outlaw Start was... Sep 1996-May 1999 for the manga and the anime was all done in 1998, Kyushu sank in Nov of 1999. Outlaw Star was, and is, around if the anime industry went along the same path up until Leviathan sank that chunk of Japan.

Aimbot was at least slightly clever and funny, it's still shit compared to some of the other options but at least it's better than the deliberate cringefest people seem to be gunning for.

No seriously, why the fuck would you do this to her? It's ridiculously out of character for her to pick those names, which means that we're voting for Taylor to pick the names for her, which means you're literally giving her excuses to dislike Taylor for no good reasons besides your own shits and giggles.

Fuck you, that's terrible and you should feel terrible for trying to push these garbage names.

Disagreeing with people's opinions is no reason to be quite so vitriolic.

I like Transformation Sequence as a catchphrase for when activating her device rather than as a name. I can see her very cheerfully calling out, "It's time for a Transformation Sequence!!" while everybody else cringes.

Not actually lethal effect. She used sheets to smash people's heads together to knock them out.
At least in Worm (and Hollywood) physics. Knocking people out like that without causing serious brain damage isn't so easy in the real world.
Yes, I know it's an old cliche. Even Star Trek (especially the original series) did that.

I would not be quite so vitriolic if people would actually deign to explain the value they see in these choices. However, all I see is an endless parade of people making choices that I dislike immensely and giving absolutely no reasoning or justification for doing so when they do.

I see Kayleigh in the Mouse Protector vein.
Making sure she looks and behaves utterly ridiculous so any Villain defeated by her will be utterly ashamed.

My personal belief is the meme names will be funny for one, maybe two updates. After which its going to just be painful.

Alright, I'll do so.

Scarlet Grimoire fits with Calamity Witch in theme and Missy's magic is red. Simple as that.

Transformation Sequence because it fits with Sailor Shining Shot, and because it's a far, far more entertaining joke than Aimbot to me. Using their Devices literally triggers a transformation sequence as their Hazard/Barrier Jackets/Knight's Armour activates. Also, Kayleigh's been watching anime to learn about magical girls for at least a week.

Sailor Shining Shot: Kayleigh is the cheerful, friendly, not-completely-serious, gun-nut of the group. Faced with overly serious teammates—which, when the leader is named Calamity Witch is kind of a thing - she'd try to lighten the mood. Thus a not entirely serious name. See again watching magical girl anime for at least a week as 'research'.

It also follows the same idea as Mouse Protector. A friendly, joking, hammy face that disarms and is made approachable by not taking themselves seriously. That it'll embarrass their enemies thoroughly when she's successful only makes it better. Considering her main armament will be guns, and she will be using said guns, people are going to look at her as if she's dangerous. Mitigating that is a thing.

It'll work for a joke a couple of times, then people'll get used to it. The characters and us. Much like there was awkwardness about Taylor being Calamity Witch at first which then fizzled out—it's not like Sailor Shining Shot is much cringier than someone running around called Calamity Witch. It's just on the silly spectrum rather than edgy.

Oh, and I did give a shorter version of these reasons when I picked Sailor Shining Shot in the first round of voting. I just didn't see a reason to repeat it. A few others did as well.

Kayleigh is a bubbly, social butterfly that is smarter than she lets on but can still be a dum dum sometimes. She specifically asked Perfect Storm for media to help her get in the mind set of being a magic user. Perfect Storm dumped a bunch of 90s era anime on her. Probably shit like Sailor Moon, Card Captor Sakura, and Magic Knight Rayearth and shit nobody outside of Japan has ever heard of since it's one and done series. It is not out of suspension of disbelief that Kayleigh would get fully on board with that kind of saccharine tooth destroying content and take names and themes accordingly from it. It is literally why she asked Perfect Storm for it.

For God's sake, this very quest is partly from a series called Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha. It's not like it wasn't baked into the foundations of the earth. If it bothers you so much have no fear, there is no way Silently Watches is going to use the full name all the time, because it IS ridiculous and people rolling their eyes at Kayleigh's Labrador like enthusiasm is a staple of everybody's interactions with her.

I don't think they are cringy or a meme. I don't really get why people think they are. At worst Transformation Sequence is a reference, but then so is Aimbot. But really, since I could live with all choices I don't have a big horse in this race.
In the end, I just like Sailor Shining Shot and Transformation Sequence better than the alternatives.

Because it's cute and fun, and a thing is only cringy if you allow yourself to think it is. Same thing with cosplay. Kayleigh already knows that Cape life shouldn't be a thing to base her entire identity around so why wouldn't she let herself have fun with it. Perfect Storm gave Kayleigh access to all Magical Girl media that could be found so there's the in character justification for the Campiness. And say in the hypothetical years later she changes her name, her and everyone who knew of the Sailor Shining Shot phase can have a good laugh at her choices made in youthful exuberance.

If we were going to have a sudden re-vote dozens of votes in while I'm asleep, why this and not another chance at Magical Girl Raspberry Gunstar :V :V ???

People are upset about Aimbot because...... It references cheating? As atinker-lookalike accessory to cape powers, when being Bullshit is sort of the point with those?? Eh whatever, doubling down on transformation sequemce for someone who will use it like a pottable wardrobe is fine too.

But seriously, how rare are guns in Cape culture, outside of tinkers (that more often use oddballs like lasers) or specific powers like Militia? Disarming fears with such a silly name to put her in 'safe' eccentric Tinker category till shes established seems pretty vital.

Its not like Rebranding is hard when you can change costume and probably disguise voice on a whim (thats always bugged me about costumes, the voices) and might just leave for Midkeldia before youre old enough to care

I dislike Aimbot because I think it's unfunny and unimaginative. Got nothing to do with cheating. I just look at it and go: "Am... I supposed to laugh?"
Edit: The current count is 33 of 66 votes for Transformation Sequence and 9 of 66 for Aimbot. We reached our goal, folks! 🥳 You can close the vote now, SW. :p

I'll say it before and I'll say it again, Kayleigh needs to be the foil to the rest of her team's Edge. She's by default not as into the whole Hard Girls Making Hard Decisions mumbo jumbo, so anything that helps emphasize that is good in my eyes.

Thank you, those make sense as arguments, and I do appreciate them. I actually sort of agree even.

Sorry for being so angry earlier.

What was your previous favorite? I'm always looking for more stuff to read, no matter how large my current list may be.

Well, I guess Glassmaker and Loaf top my list.

Honestly, I don't think I really had a favourite before, since wormfic hasn't really shown me a lot of what I would usually find compelling. It seems to be largely crack and out-of-character curbstompy fun, with relatively little interest towards working within the established universe for interesting character vignettes or drama or exploration of other events and locations. That isn't what sells in this place.

I'm not saying that's bad. I'm here, aren't I? I like reading fun things. Though, if you have any recommendations for me, I wouldn't turn my nose up.

Edit: Er. I don't want to derail this thread. Might be something for elsewhere.

I'll look at my watched list and get back to you.

So... If this is being redone could I call for another shot at Jedi Missy?

[X] (Device) Aimbot

Cause both seem bad but this less so than the other to me.
