From Farthest Shores
Thirtieth Day of the Eleventh Month 293 AC
Where once you could do little more than gather rumors on the wind to hear of the wider world, often paid by your own hand, now there are many to listen in your place, agents of the Inquisition, traders sailing under the banner of the Silver Serpent, and clerks diligently working at the offices of the Astral Currents Stock Exchange. Somewhat to your surprise, even the the red-robed priests of R'hllor have been helpful in this regard. Melisandre is proving quite adept in picking through rumors and hearsay to give you one more perspective on matters of import. By all this combined effort you see distant realms more clearly than once you saw even as far as Tyrosh or Sunspear.
Rumors of the Summer Islands
To Pay in Steel Coin: Yanda Zaq, Prince of Last Lament, has wed Jola Daa, a princess from the Sweet Lotus Vale upon Jhala, also a priestess who spent some years tending to the Talking Trees in Tall Trees Town, where all the history of the islanders is carved, and according to the envoys of Silver Serpent Enterprise who attended the wedding, a sorceress of no small power. They had seen her wield a spell of the Sixth Circle to conjure a blessed beast in honor of her marriage to the prince. Yet it is clear to any who know the tide of court that this is a marriage of equals in princely power, if not personal. The steel trade has made Last Lament rich, and so the prince of Last Lament seeks to bring more of Walano under his sway. The next war upon the island will be one to watch, though war upon the islands bears little kinship to what it is in other lands. It will be over in a day or two one way or the other, and not trouble the flow of trade.
Burnt Gold: Several orchards of Goldenheart on Omboru have been burned by stealth, and neither the guards nor the wards of the priestesses seem to be able to prevent further destruction. The warriors are always said to fall into a deep slumber and neither they nor any more distant witnesses can see the fire, yet by morning the trees are unmistakably burned. Rumors of curses and monsters abound, causing the Princess of Sweet Wind to call for champions to rid her of this blight.
Stranger Winds: The Shipyards of Koj, most famed and prosperous in all the Summer Islands, are witness to a ship like no other that has ever sailed there, one as much of sorcery as wood and tar, sail and rope. Prince Sorrol Zo seeks to build swan ships that will trap the wind itself in their sails and travel where they will. Many call this madness or even blasphemy, but thanks to an intrepid Red Priest and a flame whispered message you know the prince has better chances than most would assume to succeed in his project. There is a djinn mage upon the island teaching the local mages how to weave spells into cloth.
Rumors from the Jade Sea
Harmony Disturbed: There was a minor riot on the docks Yin sparked by rumors of necromancy and fel arts among the Lengi traders from Turrani. Thankfully, order was restored by the swift intervention of the Riverguard. One can only hope that the arrival of yet more foreigners with all too visible magic will not further inflame spirits.
Salt to the Wound: Izril, who names himself lord over the Shrinking Sea, has sent envoys to Trader Town to the court of the traitor general, offering alliance. Whether this is truly an alliance against the Azure Emperor or barbarians taking advantage of an empire divided against itself, as it is said in Yin, you are not certain. Supposedly, Izril is moved by dreams of doom and darkness, and you can certainly think of one foe of the Orange Emperor who would reap doom upon more than just Yi Ti if Her pawns are not stymied.
By Heaven's Grace: The Emperor has proclaimed that all rōnin without outstanding warrants of arrest may seek imperial service freely, though governors are permitted and indeed encouraged to assign these men less than vital tasks until they have proven their worth. The proclamation makes specific note of any sorcerers who take advantage of this permission. They are to be sent to the capital, or if that is not feasible, to the nearest monastery in good standing to establish their purity.
